Features / Highlights:
- Independent, Non-Corporate Practice: A significant highlight, as emphasized by customer feedback, is that The Pet Doctor of Flushing is an independent veterinary office, not a corporate entity. This means decisions about your pet's care are made by the veterinarian, Dr. Benson, directly, rather than by a corporate management team. This structure often leads to more personalized and flexible care options.
- Direct Access to the Veterinarian: Pet owners consistently appreciate the ability to speak directly with Dr. Benson. This open communication channel ensures that your concerns are thoroughly heard, questions are answered, and treatment plans are explained clearly and rationally. This contrasts sharply with experiences at some larger corporate veterinary hospitals where direct access to the vet can be limited.
- Kind and Empathetic Staff: The team, including Dr. Benson and his staff, are frequently described as "kind and empathetic." This creates a supportive and comforting environment for both pets and their owners, especially during stressful times.
- Focus on Rational Explanations and Satisfactory Outcomes: Customers highlight that their concerns are heard, and explanations for care and dosages are provided rationally, leading to satisfactory outcomes. This commitment to clear communication helps build trust and confidence in the care provided.
- Commitment to Patient Well-being Over Corporate Agendas: The practice’s independent nature allows them to prioritize the pet's well-being above corporate metrics or profit-driven mandates, fostering a genuine doctor-patient relationship. This aligns with the desire of many pet owners to have their vet act as a trusted advisor rather than a business entity.
While some experiences regarding billing and communication about charges have been raised, the core strength of The Pet Doctor of Flushing lies in its independent structure and the direct, empathetic approach of Dr. Benson, which is highly valued by many in the community.

The Pet Doctor of Flushing Reviews
The best doctor in our area!!! Not a corporate entity posing as a vet. After a terrible experience at North Shore Animal Hospital in Bayside, I returned to my original vet. I didn't leave for any other reason than I wanted boarding and vet together. Well, I'll manage. This is a DOCTOR'S office not corporate like North Shore. At the Pet Doctor of Flushing you get to speak to the doctor, and not get denied from it because an office manager is playing doctor like at North Shore. (ie giving prescriptions and not hearing you). Dr. Benson and his staff are kind and empathetic. End result is they heard my concerns, explained things rationally, I left satisfied with the dosage and care for my dog. I'd give 10 stars if I could. This is a veterinary office not a business posing as a veterinarian where corporate decides for your dog and when you make the request to speak to the vet they deny you because the vet is not the boss here. Be careful people. Go to Pet Doctor of Flushing. I'll never leave again. 6
May 06, 2025 · Lorraine IwanExtremely disappointing, and I urge other pet owners to be wary of their practices. We brought our pet in for a follow-up review of surgery an anal secretion procedure performed less than 20 days earlier, only to be charged an outrageous $75 for what should have been a routine check. To put this in perspective, the same procedure previously cost $45 and was offered as a courtesy after we spent over $1000 at the hospital. To now charge $75 for a follow-up, with no prior warning of the price hike, feels like a blatant attempt to exploit loyal customers. The nurse justification (who's doesn't care of costumers) for the fee was absurd: they claimed the cost was high because two people performed the procedure, and I should be “grateful” it was two nurses rather than two doctors. This explanation is unacceptable and highlights a lack of transparency. At no point were we informed whether a nurse or a doctor would handle the procedure, nor were we told that involving multiple staff would inflate the bill. It seems the hospital is determined to charge exorbitant fees for even the simplest services. When I called to voice my concerns, I was met with outright rudeness from a nurse named Jennifer. Despite my calm request to speak with the manager, she responded in a dismissive and unprofessional manner, making the interaction even more frustrating. I was told the manager would be notified, but days later, we have received no follow-up, apology, or resolution. This complete lack of accountability is unacceptableIs disorganized facility that overstaffs basic procedures you don't know who handle your dof a nurse or a doctor to justify inflated costs and mistreats clients who raise valid complaints.Pet owners deserve clear pricing, transparency about who performs procedures, and respectful service. I strongly recommend seeking veterinary care elsewhere to avoid being overcharged and poorly treated.
Apr 26, 2025 · MilenaDr. Benson at The Pet Doctor is amazing! He’s always kind, professional, and takes great care of my dog and cat. We’re so lucky to have him as our vet! The office staff are very sweet. Always a seamless process when we go
Apr 17, 2025 · Alessandra TiseoDr. K is amazing! He's excellent with bully breeds, which is rare in this field. In response to the comment about AI-generated reviews, mine is not. Dr. K treated all of my mother-in-law's dogs (10 in total) over the past 20 years while working at a different practice. He has always been knowledgeable and compassionate, and he never labels large breeds as dangerous.
Mar 31, 2025 · Anastasia BDr. Benson is an experienced vet but he is more a businessman. His whole team never showed any care or love to pets. I feel they are overbooked because the waiting time was so long and he or his other doctors were very rush at the appointment. We started going three about 3 years ago. Every time we saw a different vet; the one we saw at the last appointment would not be employed there at the next visit. On March 8, my little dog suddenly lost mobility in his hind legs. We rushed to the office desperately by 9:30am. The front desk said we would been seen at 10:40am(it was roughly an hour wait) so we decided to wait. But no one came to us. Th front desk kept telling me “I’m the next”. Not until 11:50 we were called in. The doctor looked my dog and ordered X-ray. I asked him how much it would cost and he told me about $250. The X-ray shows he has severe IVDD, then Dr Benson said he couldn’t do anything but referred me to a Neurologist for an emergency surgery. He could have checked my dog earlier then I could rush to the right place rather than sitting in his waiting room for 2 hours. Before I left, they invoiced me $370 for the X-ray and additional office visit which is not even negotiable. After that, we went to a large animal hospital in Long Island. My dog was taken in immediately for checkup. The vet was super kind and patient to explain all the options and potential costs to me. They didn’t have any neurosurgeon on site at that time. But she was trying to comfort me and offered to call the other hospital. She even didn’t charge me anything for the visit. Now I know THERE ARE BETTER VETS than the Pet Doctor.
