Urgent Pet in El Cerrito specializes in addressing immediate, non-life-threatening conditions, offering a range of services designed for situations that require prompt attention but do not necessarily warrant a visit to a 24/7 emergency hospital. Their focus is on efficient diagnosis and treatment to get your pet feeling better as quickly as possible.
Same-Day Appointments: A core offering, allowing pet owners to bring in their animals for urgent concerns without long waits.
Minor Injuries and Lacerations: Assessment and treatment of cuts, scrapes, and other superficial wounds that are not excessively bleeding.
Gastrointestinal Issues: Diagnosis and treatment for conditions like vomiting or diarrhea, particularly if it's not prolonged (e.g., less than 24 hours) or accompanied by severe symptoms.
Allergic Reactions: Managing acute allergic responses, such as hives or facial swelling, often a result of insect bites or environmental factors.
Limping or Lameness: Evaluating and treating limping without signs of severe pain, swelling, or obvious fractures.
Ear Infections and Mild Eye Irritations: Addressing common discomforts that require timely medication or cleaning.
Skin Rashes and Hot Spots: Diagnosing and treating various dermatological issues causing discomfort to your pet.
Urinary Issues: Assessment of urinary tract problems that are not causing complete obstruction or severe distress.
Ingestion of Certain Substances: While severe poisonings are emergency, Urgent Pet can assess and potentially treat ingestion of common items like chocolate or grapes, as mentioned by a reviewer, depending on the severity and type.
Diagnostic Services: Includes in-house laboratory testing to quickly get results for blood in urine or other immediate concerns, aiding in rapid diagnosis.
General Illnesses: Addressing a range of general sickness symptoms that don't appear immediately life-threatening but require prompt veterinary attention.
Urgent Pet in El Cerrito stands out for several key features and highlights that enhance the pet care experience for local California residents, particularly during stressful urgent situations.
High Efficiency and Minimal Wait Times: A recurring theme in positive customer feedback is the clinic's ability to get patients into an exam room quickly. As one reviewer noted, "when was the last time you showed up at the appointment time and went directly into the room? That's the standard treatment here." This efficiency is invaluable for stressed pets and owners.
Accommodates Varied Urgent Needs: Customers consistently report that Urgent Pet is able to accommodate a wide range of pet emergencies that are not critical, such as ingestion of chocolate or grapes, or blood in urine, often on the same day.
Friendly and Accommodating Staff: The staff is frequently praised for being exceptionally friendly and genuinely loving animals. One reviewer highlighted a technician letting their recovering pug sleep in their lap during lunch, illustrating the compassionate care provided.
Thorough and Explanative Vets: Pet owners appreciate that the veterinarians at Urgent Pet are "very thorough" and "very explanative," taking the time to clearly communicate diagnoses, treatment options, and care instructions.
Stress-Minimizing Environment: The hospital is designed to reduce anxiety for pets, reportedly featuring elements like floor-built weighing scales (so dogs don't even realize they're being weighed) and separate housing areas for cats and dogs to minimize noise and stress. Their cat areas reportedly include "certified fear-free cat condos," indicating an understanding of feline-specific stress reduction techniques, though their official AAHA accreditation status for the entire facility is not confirmed by the provided data and one review suggests it may not be AAHA accredited.
It is important for potential clients to note one review from July 2025 expressed concern about specific diagnostic information provided by a particular veterinarian, citing inaccurate guidance regarding contagious conditions. While this represents an isolated negative experience, it highlights the importance of open communication with any veterinary provider and seeking clarification when in doubt.

Urgent Pet Reviews
Urgent pet always seems to be able to accommodate the varied pet emergencies I constantly seem to be running into. Chocolate or grapes, blood in urine, etc, they have been able to get me in same day. Also I really value the efficiency of the office, when was the last time you showed up at the appointment time and went directly into the room? That's the standard treatment here. Staff is very friendly and accommodating, and though most folks who work in vet offices love animals they seem to like really, really love animals. Like the tech told me while my pug was recovering she let her sleep in her lap while she ate lunch. Dealt with a couple of the vets now - very thorough, very explanative.
Jun 04, 2025 · John OI brought a sick pet here in July 2025. Dr. Audrey Buatois called me after the tests came back and told me completely wrong information--telling me I didn't have to isolate my cat anymore, even though it had calicivirus, which is super contagious. When confronted, the vet said, "Oh yeah, that's new information." What!? This virus has been a problem for decades so there's nothing "new" about it. Dr. Buatois was completely incompetent. So if you go, be sure to call and see who's on duty or better yet: SKIP THIS PLACE and go somewhere that's AAHA accredited.
Jul 23, 2025 · Travel Da WorldThe staff at this location is purely incredible. So much compassion, understanding, professionalism. Very communicative and responsive. My daughter’s dog is anxious at vets and everyone was patient and gentle. It was hard for my daughter to give her dog the medicine she needed because of an injury of her own and they took the initiative to set up a plan to help during the entire duration of the treatment plan at no extra cost due to the circumstances. I’m so touched by the thought and effort of every staff member. We can’t recommend Urgent Pet enough.
Mar 20, 2025 · stefani woolridgeIf I could give 0 stars I would. My cats tail was degloved and we were distraught nothing else was open at the time so I took my cat here. They tried to charge me 1,800 to amputate his tail. I most definitely can’t afford that so they told me my cat can die if it gets infected and that I needed to do this but I don’t have the money. So they ended up charging me almost $400 just to see him. They didn’t even bandage his tail up there nor give us any advice on how to do wound care at home. Once they saw I didn’t have that money they could care less about my pet. Thankfully animal fix clinic in Pinole actually cares for animals and were able to help me with a way more affordable plan. They should be ashamed to say they care about animals. Shame on you guys
Jun 23, 2025 · Keiry HuezoI feel like this place is way too expensive. I went to oakcare and paid almost half less for the same exact eye problem my dog had. Not only that I was there for 6 and Tire hours!I was very disappointed because the inside wedding area is very nice they had very good are on the wall and a very nice espresso machine which was a huge plus but not at the cost of a very expensive Bill and a very lengthy wait time. The staff there were very nice and very informative had nothing bad to say about them they were very helpful and seem like they're very much care about animals.
