UrgentVet Introduce
For pet owners across Indiana, especially those in the Greenwood area, the sudden onset of a pet illness or minor injury can be a source of significant worry. It’s a situation that often falls into a tricky middle ground: not critical enough for an expensive, 24/7 emergency room, but too urgent to wait for a regular vet appointment. This is precisely the gap that UrgentVet in Greenwood, IN, is designed to fill. This article aims to provide local Hoosier pet parents with a clear, engaging, and informative overview of UrgentVet, highlighting its unique role and benefits in the local pet care landscape.
UrgentVet in Greenwood is part of a growing national network of clinics that aims to bridge the gap between daytime general veterinary practice and full-service emergency hospitals. Founded by Dr. Jim Dobies, the UrgentVet concept was born from the recognition that pet parents needed an alternative for flexible, after-hours care without the premium cost often associated with 24-hour emergency hospitals. Since its opening in September 2024, UrgentVet Greenwood has become a vital resource for pet owners when their regular veterinarian's office is closed, or when an issue arises that needs immediate attention but isn't life-threatening.
The clinic’s philosophy is deeply rooted in providing rapid, reliable, and compassionate urgent veterinary care every day of the year. They understand that urgent conditions can be incredibly stressful for both pets and their families, and their goal is to alleviate that stress by offering efficient treatment in a comforting environment. Each clinic, including the Greenwood location, is designed with a "Fear Free" approach, ensuring pets feel as comfortable and at ease as possible during their visit. This commitment to both medical excellence and emotional well-being truly defines the UrgentVet experience, making it a much-needed service for the Indianapolis and Greenwood communities.

This strategic location places the clinic on a major thoroughfare in Greenwood, making it highly accessible for residents not only within Greenwood but also from surrounding communities in central Indiana. State Road 135 is a well-known and easily navigable road, which is particularly beneficial when pet owners are in a hurry or under stress due to a pet's sudden illness or injury. The clinic's position ensures that emergency and urgent care is within straightforward reach.
As an urgent care facility, accessibility is paramount. The clinic is designed to facilitate quick and easy arrivals, minimizing any added stress for both pets and their owners. While specific parking details are best confirmed upon arrival, facilities located on major state roads typically offer ample on-site parking. The ease of access underscores UrgentVet's commitment to providing prompt and convenient care, ensuring that when an urgent situation arises, Hoosier pet parents can quickly get their animal companions the attention they need without unnecessary delays or difficulties in locating the clinic. - "Fear Free" Approach: The clinic is specially designed to minimize stress for pets, featuring Fear Free certified veterinary professionals, dog and cat-specific exam rooms (including large and small dog rooms), and private comfort rooms. This commitment to emotional well-being sets them apart.
- Compassionate and Expert Staff: Clients consistently praise the staff for being "very pleasant," "incredible," "caring, compassionate, and professional," and for making pets "feel at ease." Dr. Victoria Lewis, in particular, is lauded for her honesty, knowledge, and for catching a dangerous condition early, potentially saving a pet's life.
- Bridging the Care Gap: UrgentVet perfectly fills the need for after-hours care for non-life-threatening conditions, offering a convenient and more affordable alternative to traditional 24/7 emergency clinics. They are open evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Transparent Communication and Referral Process: The staff thoroughly explains treatment options and costs upfront. In cases requiring more specialized care, like Jango's autoimmune anemia, they proactively call and coordinate with local ER vets they trust, and send over test results, ensuring a seamless transition of care.
- Focus on Acute, Non-Life-Threatening Issues: They clearly define what they treat (e.g., ear infections, vomiting, minor injuries) and what they refer out (e.g., severe trauma, overnight observation), managing client expectations and ensuring pets receive the right level of care.
- Affordable Care: Positioned as a "cost-effective alternative to the ER vet," they help pet owners manage unexpected veterinary expenses without compromising on quality care.

UrgentVet Reviews
I took my sweet little cat Milo here because he was a little lethargic, not eating, so I was extremely worried about him. The staff was very pleasant. My cat felt at ease with them. The vet was incredible. They were able to get him what he needed so that he could start feeling better and I would definitely go back here again.
Jun 27, 2025 · Melissa TappIf I could give them more than 5 stars, I would! Dr. Victoria Lewis is one of the reasons my dog is still with me today. On 6/3, we noticed our dog Jango was extremely lethargic, not eating, and had pale gums. Urgentvet was the closest place open, so we made an appointment online as we drove over there. We were brought into a room immediately, where questions about what was going on began. They said they’d do a bunch of tests, gave us an estimate, then walked out of the room for my husband & I to discuss. We were willing to do anything to help our boy, so they completed the tests for us. Dr. Lewis gave us the news that our dog had a dangerous autoimmune anemia, but it was caught quite early. She said she would highly recommend having him hospitalized & getting scans, so she called local ER vets (and specified she’d only call ones she would bring her own pets to) and found one for us to go to. She called them & let them know we were coming, & sent Jango’s test results to them.Jango ended up being hospitalized for 6 days, got excellent care from specialists, and was able to come home on meds to heal further. The vet there said if we hadn’t caught it so early, he probably would not have made it. We owe a lot of that to Dr. Lewis!! Thanks so much.
Jun 14, 2025 · KassidyFrom start to finish, we had a wonderful experience. Dr Katie is amazing, as well as all her staff. We truly felt comfortable. We felt we were heard when it mattered, which then allowed us to formulate the best plan of care. We respected the fact that nothing was pushed on us but we were giving options and explained why each option made sense, given the symptoms that were presented. I truly thank you all for everything you do! We appreciate you! Keep being amazing! Love, Hershey and tag along brother, Thor
May 19, 2025 · Heather EichhornI cannot say enough good things about this clinic! My pup and I had to pay them a visit on Saturday after my pup did not stick her landing while jumping. When I came into the clinic I was greeted by Morgan, who immediately put me at ease and told me my dog would be in great hands. She was nice and thorough when getting our intake info and was so gentle with my dog who wouldn’t let anyone touch her leg. She also kept me informed of all the anticipated estimates of costs so there were no suprises at the end of the visit. I had the pleasure of meeting Doc Katelyn Hecke who put my mind at ease and explained all the options to me along with what to expect once the procedure was completed. She has the best personality! I had the chance to speak with Allie who I believe helped me schedule the appointment in the first place and then was kind enough to call and check on my girl the day after which went above and beyond what I was expecting for an emergency walk in clinic. Cannot recommend this place enough if your pet has an accident. I cannot thank the ladies there enough for taking care of my pup (and me) this past Saturday!! (They even decorated her cast!!)
Apr 14, 2025 · Alexa BartonThe staff at Greenwood Urgent Vet were great with my sick dog last night. We walked right into a room and they were extremely caring and responsive to figure out what was wrong with our girl. They did not nickel and dime us at all. They gave us an estimate with the costs of each test/treatment they recommend and gave me the autonomy to pick what I wanted them to do with cost in mind. 10/10 recommend them for urgent vet needs.
