Veterinary Emergency Group Introduce
For pet owners across Indianapolis, Indiana, knowing where to turn when a medical emergency strikes your beloved companion is critical. Unlike human hospitals, not all veterinary clinics are equipped or staffed to handle urgent, after-hours, or critical situations. This is precisely where Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) Nora steps in, providing a specialized, 24/7 emergency veterinary service dedicated to offering immediate, compassionate, and transparent care when your regular veterinarian is unavailable. They understand that pet emergencies are stressful, and their entire operational model is built around alleviating that stress for both pets and their worried human families.
VEG Nora is part of a growing network of emergency veterinary hospitals across the country, all sharing a unique philosophy: to revolutionize emergency veterinary medicine. Their core mission is to empower pet owners during a crisis by allowing them to stay with their pets throughout the entire treatment process, from initial assessment to diagnostics and even into the treatment area. This innovative approach helps reduce anxiety for the pet and provides invaluable comfort and transparency for the owner. For Indianapolis residents, VEG Nora offers a crucial lifeline for unexpected injuries, sudden illnesses, or any urgent health concern that simply can't wait.
Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) Nora is conveniently located at 1480 E 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46240, USA. This strategic address places them in the northern part of Indianapolis, specifically in the Nora neighborhood. This location makes them highly accessible for residents across a wide swath of central Indiana, including northern Indianapolis proper, Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville, and Noblesville. East 86th Street is a major thoroughfare, ensuring straightforward navigation, even during stressful emergency situations.
Being an emergency hospital, VEG Nora is designed for immediate accessibility. They operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, meaning there is no "closed" sign when your pet needs urgent attention. This constant availability, coupled with their easy-to-find location, is paramount for pet owners in Indiana facing a medical crisis outside of regular clinic hours. Their commitment to being available "when every second counts" is reflected in their accessible location and always-open doors.
As a dedicated emergency veterinary hospital, VEG Nora provides a focused range of services specifically designed for urgent and critical care situations. They are not a general practice and do not offer routine wellness checks, vaccinations, or long-term management of chronic conditions. Their expertise lies in immediate stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of emergent medical issues for dogs, cats, and even some exotic animals.
- Emergency Medical Care: Immediate assessment and treatment for a wide variety of urgent health concerns, including vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, and sudden lameness.
- Critical Care & Hospitalization: For pets requiring intensive monitoring, IV fluids, oxygen therapy, and continuous medical intervention for life-threatening conditions.
- Emergency Surgery: Equipped to perform urgent surgical procedures for conditions such as foreign body ingestion, gastric dilation-volvulus (bloat), lacerations, internal bleeding, and other traumatic injuries.
- Advanced Diagnostic Imaging: On-site capabilities for digital X-rays and ultrasounds to quickly diagnose internal issues and injuries.
- In-House Laboratory Services: Rapid blood tests, urinalysis, and other diagnostic tests to provide immediate results crucial for emergency decision-making.
- Trauma Care: Comprehensive care for pets involved in accidents, including hit-by-car incidents, falls, or animal attacks.

(It's always advisable to call ahead for exotic emergencies to confirm capabilities.)
- Oxygen Therapy and Respiratory Support: For pets experiencing breathing difficulties.
- Transfusion Services: For pets suffering from severe anemia or other blood-related emergencies.
Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) Nora stands out from traditional emergency veterinary clinics with several unique features that significantly enhance the client and patient experience during stressful times:
- "Stay With Your Pet" Policy: This is arguably VEG's most distinctive and appreciated feature. Unlike many emergency vets where pets are taken to the back, VEG encourages pet owners to stay with their animal companions throughout the entire process, including triage, diagnostics, and even during certain treatments. This open-concept approach reduces anxiety for pets and provides immense comfort and transparency for owners.
- 24/7/365 Availability: As a dedicated emergency hospital, VEG Nora is open around the clock, every single day of the year, ensuring that urgent care is always available when your regular vet is closed.
- Compassionate and Expert Staff: Reviews consistently highlight the "amazing care," "exemplary knowledge and confidence," and "wonderful" demeanor of the veterinarians (like Dr. Kotani) and nurses. The staff's ability to make pets feel "much less anxious" and their genuine support for pet owners are frequently praised.
- Prompt Assessment and Care: Clients report being "seen and assessed quickly," which is crucial in emergency situations where every minute counts.
- Full Disclosure and Transparency: The team provides "full disclosure of what we were looking at for our fur baby," ensuring pet owners are thoroughly informed about their pet's condition, prognosis, and treatment options.
- Open Concept Layout: The physical layout of the hospital contributes to a less anxious experience for pets, as they can see and be comforted by their owners and the surrounding activity rather than being isolated.
- Exotic Animal Capability: While not a specialized exotic-only clinic, the ability to provide emergency care for unique pets like rabbits (as evidenced by a specific review) fills a vital niche in the Indianapolis emergency vet landscape.
- Financial Consideration (Senior Discount): As noted by a customer, they proactively offer discounts like a "Senior discount," demonstrating an awareness of the financial burden of emergency care and a willingness to help.

Veterinary Emergency Group Reviews
My darling rabbit Cinnabun was in bad shape when I brought her into VEG Nora with a broken hind leg, and when I arrived, we were seen and assessed quickly, and the staff provided amazing care for my little lady, with Dr. Kotani showing exemplary knowledge and confidence in care and treatment, and the nurses all being wonderful! While options for exotic animals are limited, after my experience, there's no one I would rather have attend to my bun! While I hope her health never requires their services again, they really are the best of the best! Now my bun is a little lop-sided, but home, happy, and healthy thanks to these amazing folks!
Jul 19, 2025 · Jacob FairfieldWe had an emergency with our 9 mos old dog that wasn't doing well and, being on a Sunday, we couldn't go to our normal vet. We were taken care of promptly and the staff were awesome. We were extremely satisfied with the care, support and full disclosure of what we were looking at for our fur baby. They even offered us a Senior discount that we were very thankful for as you know emergency vets aren't cheap. Even our small Jack Russell/Corgi seemed much less anxious than normal. She seemed to be more comfortable with their open concept layout as she loves people and liked watching the activity around her. We also liked the fact that we were able to stay with our pet throughout the experience. All in all, I'd highly recommend them and the experience was better than expected and our puppy was doing 100% better just a day later!
Jul 02, 2025 · Anne Marie PerryNo one wants to take their pet to an emergency vet, but if you have to, go here! They got us in quick, the staff was so caring and kind to our scared pup! During a very scary time they helped make us feel calm and treated our dog wonderful! I also loved how it was out in the open and you got to see and be a part of what was happening! They also give you the estimate at the beginning so you know what the price will be! If we ever find ourselves needing an emergency vet again(hopefully not 😅) we will definitely be going back!
Jun 10, 2025 · Chelsea LeichtmanOur dog was up all night in GI distress. We made the call to head to the Nora VEG. Best decision! We were greeted professionally and Honey was cared for very well. Best part is she never left my side. Which made her experience less scary. Would 100% recommend ! She is feeling better!
Jul 22, 2025 · D BeesleyI took my dog to VEG when he had been vomiting for several days. I was so impressed with their service. While we weren't seen right away (his situation was stable), we were seated and could watch everything going on in the main room. I was so thankful we were not shuttled off to some closed room or cubby. I never like that sequestration and isolation when one is having a problem. I love their open concept. It is so interesting to see everyone at work. I found it so reassuring. Once we saw Dr. Anne, my dog's problem was taken care of thoroughly. I am totally satisfied with their service and will use them again although hopefully, we won't have need for a long, long time!
