VetCheck Pet Urgent Care Center in Carmel specializes in providing immediate and effective care for urgent, non-life-threatening conditions that require prompt attention. While they are not a 24/7 emergency hospital equipped for critical, life-threatening traumas (and will refer such cases to specialized emergency centers), they are fully prepared to handle a wide range of common pet emergencies and urgent health concerns. Here’s a detailed overview of the services they provide:
- Emergency and Urgent Care: Specializing in immediate care for sudden illnesses, injuries, and discomfort. This includes rapid assessment, stabilization, and initial treatment for conditions like persistent vomiting/diarrhea, lethargy, eye injuries, lameness, ear infections, abscesses, severe coughing, and urinary issues.
- Diagnostics: Equipped with state-of-the-art in-house diagnostic equipment for quick and accurate assessments. This includes:
- X-rays (Radiology): For assessing musculoskeletal injuries, internal organs (abdomen, chest), and ruling out issues like blockages or masses.
- In-House Laboratory Testing: For rapid blood work, urinalysis, and other essential tests to quickly identify underlying issues.
- Toxicology and Pet Poison Control: Initial assessment and treatment for pets suspected of ingesting toxins or poisons.
- Enemas: Administered for certain gastrointestinal issues.
- Full or Partial Day Hospitalization: Providing observation and supportive care for pets that require monitoring and ongoing treatment but do not need overnight critical care. They maintain an isolation ward for sick pets to ensure a controlled environment.
- Pain Management: Strategies and medications to alleviate acute pain from injuries, discomfort from illnesses, and post-procedure pain, ensuring your pet's comfort.
- Minor Surgical Procedures: Capable of performing certain urgent minor surgeries such as laceration repairs, toenail injury treatments, and abscess drainage.
- Stabilization of Critical Pets: While not a full emergency hospital, they focus on stabilizing pets with critical conditions (e.g., administering IV fluids, oxygen support, controlling bleeding/seizures) before discussing next steps, including potential referral to a 24/7 emergency facility if necessary.
- Cat-Friendly Exam Room: A specialized space designed to minimize stress and keep feline patients comfortable during their visit.
- Pet Euthanasia and After-Care: Providing compassionate and dignified end-of-life services for pets when the difficult decision to say goodbye must be made, offering a calm and private space for families.
VetCheck Pet Urgent Care Center - Carmel boasts several compelling features and highlights that make it an invaluable resource for pet owners in Indiana, especially when unexpected health issues arise. Based on positive customer experiences, their commitment to providing timely, compassionate, and transparent care truly sets them apart:

This rapid response is crucial when a pet is in distress and significantly reduces stress for both the animal and owner.

They provide a "calm and private space to say goodbye," demonstrating immense empathy and support during a time of profound grief.
- Bridging the Gap for Urgent Needs: VetCheck serves a critical role by handling urgent cases that don't necessarily require a 24/7 emergency room but can't wait for a regular vet appointment. This fills a vital need for pet owners whose primary vet is closed.
- Focus on Communication: The clinic prioritizes thorough communication, explaining treatment plans and next steps, including potential referrals to specialists for bigger ordeals, ensuring pet owners are fully informed.
- Convenient After-Hours and Weekend Availability: Their operating hours are specifically tailored to address urgent needs outside of standard business hours, making them an accessible option when primary vets are closed, including late-night and weekend hours.

VetCheck Pet Urgent Care Center - Carmel Reviews
Had an emergency while my vet was closed, of course. I got an immediate appointment and when I arrived I was taken back right away. They explained their process and charges upfront which was very welcomed. The price is a bit high but that's expected for after hours veterinary services, they were applicable and not extraordinarily high. The staff was very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. We are awaiting a specialist consult within the hour and may need to transfer to a facility for a bigger ordeal. I would recommend this place when your fur baby needs to be seen right away.
Apr 05, 2025 · Austin FWe had an unfortunate emergency with our 18 year old cat late on a Friday and had to make the urgent decision to end her suffering. The VetCheck staff were so wonderful and caring. It's a situation no pet owner wants to be in and we are so grateful to them for quickly seeing us and providing a calm and private space to say goodbye our beloved pet.
May 22, 2025 · Balie StrnadWe live in Avon, 35 min away and they took my call and set an appointment for my eta to my kitten in right away. Dr Bala explained what he wanted to do to understand her GI issues and course of treatment. The attending nurse was great at getting us in, communicating the issues to the doc and explaining the process. She offered me refreshments and was very kind knowing the worry I was feeling for our kitten. I appreciate everyone working together to try to get her back to see spunky little self.
Jul 06, 2024 · Jennifer Waitethe staffs are phenomenal & did a terrific job in taking care of our furbaby. they know what to do and very caring. they are also kind enough and take into consideration our budget with the vet bill. I would definitely recommend them specially with urgent care with your pet. I brought my baby here cause she started not eating and getting weak, dehydrated. thank you vetcheck.
Jul 09, 2024 · grace betterleyHi, I brought my cat here and it was killed by the unprofessional procedures that I know it was not of protocol. The head vet technician was very rude and not empathetic about my loss. I highly don’t recommend this facility everyone was rude and not helpful for my needs or my poor cat.
