Veterinary Emergency Group

Our dog got tangled on a fishing pole and got a hook stuck in her lip. We called VEG and they said bring her right in. We were met at the door, immediately brought into the treatment area (which looks like an ER for people) but for pets. Staff was amazing everything from techs to docs. The doctor evaluated the situation and in minutes provided a treatment plan that was completely affordable. Once approved they had our little pup in surgery. We got to observe the entire procedure. They were absolutely amazing. Within 2 hours we were back home with our pup and she is happy and healthy! Thank you to the VEG team. You all are amazing!! Jeff, Crystal & Skye 🐾 - Jeff Yount

Services Offered

Veterinary Emergency Group specializes exclusively in urgent and emergency veterinary care, meaning their services are specifically tailored to handle critical situations that require immediate attention. They are not a general practice clinic for routine check-ups, but rather a dedicated emergency room for pets. Here’s a detailed look at the types of services VEG provides:

  • Emergency Medical Care: VEG handles a wide range of medical emergencies, including sudden illnesses, acute pain, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, seizures, collapses, and more. Their team is trained to quickly assess and stabilize pets in critical condition.
  • Trauma and Injury Treatment: From accidents like being hit by a car to falls, animal bites, and, as one customer experienced, getting tangled with a fishing hook, VEG is equipped to manage all types of traumatic injuries. This includes wound care, fracture stabilization, and internal injury assessment.
  • Surgical Interventions: When an emergency requires immediate surgery, VEG has the facilities and skilled veterinary surgeons to perform urgent procedures. The customer review highlights their ability to perform surgery quickly, with the added benefit of owner observation, which is a unique and comforting aspect for many pet parents.
  • Diagnostic Imaging: To quickly and accurately diagnose internal issues, VEG utilizes advanced diagnostic tools such as digital X-rays and ultrasound. This allows for rapid identification of problems like foreign body ingestion, organ issues, or fractures.
  • In-House Laboratory Services: For immediate results, VEG operates an in-house laboratory to perform blood tests, urinalysis, and other critical lab work. This enables their veterinarians to make swift and informed treatment decisions.
  • Critical Care and Hospitalization: For pets requiring ongoing monitoring and intensive care, VEG offers overnight hospitalization with continuous supervision by their medical team. This ensures that pets in critical condition receive constant attention and necessary treatments.
  • Poison Control and Toxin Ingestion: They provide immediate care for pets that have ingested toxic substances, working quickly to neutralize or eliminate the toxins and manage any resulting symptoms.
  • Cardiac Emergencies: Specialized care for heart-related emergencies, including congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and other acute cardiac conditions. As experienced by one grieving family, Dr. Birdie quickly diagnosed heart failure and provided options.
  • Neurological Emergencies: Treatment for conditions affecting the brain and nervous system, such as seizures, sudden paralysis, or disorientation.
  • Compassionate End-of-Life Care: When a difficult decision must be made, VEG provides dignified and compassionate end-of-life services, including euthanasia in a private, comforting setting. The review from a family who lost their cat, Red, profoundly illustrates the empathy and respect shown during this heartbreaking process, allowing them to stay with their beloved pet every step of the way.

Features / Highlights

Veterinary Emergency Group distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that are particularly beneficial for Arizona pet owners seeking emergency care:

  • 24/7 Availability: This is arguably their most crucial feature. VEG is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. This round-the-clock availability ensures that no matter when an emergency strikes, pet owners in Arizona have a dedicated and fully staffed facility to turn to, providing immense peace of mind.
  • Open Floor Plan / Owner Observation: A truly unique aspect of VEG is their "open floor plan" or "ER for people" environment. As highlighted by the customer review, pet owners are often allowed, and even encouraged, to "observe the entire procedure" for their pet. This transparency is a significant comfort during stressful times, allowing owners to stay with their pets and understand the care being provided. It fosters a sense of involvement and trust that is rare in veterinary settings.
  • Immediate Attention and Prompt Service: Customers consistently praise VEG for their speed. Pets are "immediately brought into the treatment area" upon arrival. This promptness is vital in emergency situations and helps reduce anxiety for both pets and their owners. The ability to quickly evaluate, diagnose, and initiate a treatment plan (like the "in minutes" assessment and "within 2 hours we were back home" with their pup after surgery) is a hallmark of their efficient operations.
  • Empathetic and Professional Staff: The reviews consistently commend the "amazing" staff, from technicians to doctors. Phrases like "treated with dignity and respect," "cared about Red as much as we did," and "empathetic and comforting in our decision making" underscore the compassionate approach taken by the entire team, even in the most difficult circumstances. Dr. Birdie’s ability to "sit down when he talked to us" and discuss options thoroughly reflects a patient-centered care philosophy.
  • Transparent Treatment Plans and Affordability: Before proceeding, VEG clearly outlines the "treatment plan that was completely affordable," as one customer noted. This transparency in costs and options helps pet owners make informed decisions without added financial surprise during an already stressful time.
  • Dedicated Emergency Focus: Unlike general practices that might also offer emergency services, VEG's sole focus on emergencies means their entire facility, staff, and protocols are optimized for critical care. This specialization leads to greater efficiency, expertise, and availability when it's needed most.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For pet owners residing in Chandler and the wider Arizona community, the Veterinary Emergency Group stands as an indispensable resource for urgent and critical pet care. Its suitability for locals stems from several key aspects that directly address the unique needs of pet emergencies in our region.

Firstly, and most critically, VEG's dedicated 24/7 emergency service provides unparalleled peace of mind. Unlike general veterinary clinics that operate during standard business hours, VEG is always open—day or night, weekdays or holidays. This constant availability ensures that no matter when an unexpected accident or sudden illness strikes, Arizona pet parents have a reliable, fully equipped, and staffed facility to turn to, eliminating the stress of searching for after-hours care. This is particularly vital in a large, active state like Arizona, where outdoor activities and varied schedules can lead to incidents at any time.

Secondly, the efficiency and promptness of VEG are consistently highlighted by local customers. The ability to be "immediately brought into the treatment area" and receive a rapid diagnosis and treatment plan, often leading to a quick resolution, is paramount during a pet crisis. For example, the experience of having a pet in surgery and back home within two hours, as one family described, underscores their streamlined and effective approach. This speed, combined with clear communication on "completely affordable" treatment options, alleviates much of the anxiety typically associated with emergency veterinary visits for Arizona families.

Furthermore, VEG's unique "open floor plan" and policy of allowing owner observation during procedures foster an exceptional level of trust and comfort. In a stressful emergency situation, being able to stay with your pet and witness their care provides immense reassurance. This transparent and inclusive approach sets VEG apart, making the emergency experience less daunting for local pet owners who deeply cherish their companions.

Lastly, the profound empathy and professionalism exhibited by the entire VEG team, from the front desk to the veterinarians, is a recurring theme in customer feedback. The compassionate support provided during difficult times, such as end-of-life care, demonstrates their commitment to not just treating animals but also supporting the grieving families. This human-centered approach, combined with their specialized emergency expertise, makes Veterinary Emergency Group an invaluable and trusted partner for Arizona pet owners. When every moment counts, and every decision is critical, VEG provides expert, transparent, and compassionate care, making it the ideal choice for emergency veterinary needs in our local community.
