The worst, most atrocious, deplorable, and downright corrupt pet care I have EVER witnessed in my life. Just to name a few issues:Their african gray (arguably the most intelligent bird in the world by the way) is sitting on a tiny perch in the open for anyone to tease, taunt, and feed him garbage (including french fries that I witnessed a child feeding him). The bird has very obvious and untreated fatty liver disease; his beak is deformed, overgrown, and cracking. The bird is visibly shaking in pain. The final image is a comparison of the shape of what an african gray's beak is SUPPOSED to look like. Note the difference in the space between the upper and lower jaw, and the difference in texture. Two amazon parrots in a travel-sized cage that they can barely stand in, both severely overweight from a poor seed diet and no room to exercise, clipped wings and tails, etc.A very obvious front for a puppy mill; overpriced and dirty puppies of 2 or more crammed in tiny cabinets with a glass front like a disgusting display case for toy figures. Rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, parakeets, ALL in open enclosures for any customer to feed them whatever garbage they have in their hands (like the french fries I witnessed the african gray being fed), or to get bit if they so desire. Very unsafe for animals and humans alike.I can't even begin to describe all of the absolutely appalling things that I see here. There is simply not enough time in the world, I could go on and on forever. With how much more accessible knowledge is to the greater public these days, I am reminded that a lot of these issues can be learned about by a simple google search, and are EXTREMELY BASIC pet care practices. As a pet owner of multiple different species, it saddens me that places like this continue to have a platform as well as the funding to miseducate and mislead people in the world of pet care. This is dangerous at best, and downright deplorable at worst. If you care at all about animals, DO NOT SHOP HERE. This place is dirty, unethical, and unfit to house ANY animal, temporary or otherwise. - Kat Shull

Based on available information and customer feedback, Friendly Pets in Greensboro appears to offer a range of products and services primarily centered around the sale of live animals and associated supplies.

  • Live Animal Sales: The store offers various live animals for sale, including African Grey parrots, Amazon parrots, rabbits (specifically mentioned Holland Lop bunnies), guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, and parakeets.
  • Pet Supplies: It carries general pet supplies, which would typically include food, cages, bedding, toys, and other accessories for the types of animals they sell. This is implied by customer comments about buying habitats and wanting to know about food for their new pets.
  • Customer Interaction/Guidance: Employees interact with customers regarding animal selection and basic information, such as gender.

It is important to note that specific, detailed service offerings beyond these general categories are not clearly outlined in the provided information. Customer reviews focus heavily on the condition of the animals and the nature of the customer service experienced during sales.

Based on the provided customer reviews, here are some features and highlights observed regarding Friendly Pets in Greensboro. It is important to note that these points reflect the direct experiences of customers and may indicate areas of concern regarding animal welfare and customer service, rather than positive highlights in all cases.

  • Availability of Specific Breeds/Species: One customer noted they were able to find "good quality holland lop bunnies," suggesting the store carries specific breeds or types of animals that might be harder to find elsewhere locally.
  • Variety of Live Animals: The store houses a range of animals including various bird species (African Greys, Amazon parrots, parakeets), small mammals (bunnies, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats), and potentially other species, indicating a diverse live animal inventory.
  • On-Site Animal Habitats: Animals are displayed in enclosures, though the suitability and cleanliness of these habitats have been raised as a significant concern by reviewers.
  • General Pet Supplies: It can be inferred that the store offers basic supplies for the animals it sells, such as habitats, food, and bedding, based on customer interactions regarding purchases.
  • Customer Service Interactions: Customers have reported varied experiences with staff, ranging from confusion regarding animal information (e.g., gender, pedigree) to perceived rudeness and unresponsiveness from management.

It is crucial to acknowledge that the primary 'highlights' from the provided reviews are negative observations and criticisms regarding animal welfare, hygiene, and staff conduct. These include:

  • Serious Animal Welfare Concerns: Multiple severe issues were reported, such as an African Grey parrot with "obvious and untreated fatty liver disease; his beak is deformed, overgrown, and cracking," visibly shaking in pain, and being exposed to "tease, taunt, and feed him garbage." Amazon parrots were described as "severely overweight from a poor seed diet and no room to exercise, clipped wings and tails."
  • Inadequate and Unsafe Enclosures: Animals like puppies, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, and parakeets were described as being in "tiny cabinets with a glass front," "crammed," "dirty," or in "open enclosures for any customer to feed them whatever garbage they have in their hands, or to get bit if they so desire. Very unsafe for animals and humans alike."
  • Questionable Breeding Practices/Information: Concerns were raised about puppies potentially being from a "puppy mill" due to being "overpriced and dirty." For bunnies, staff reportedly had no records or files, provided inconsistent information on gender, and offered what appeared to be a "fake print off of a 'certificate'" as a pedigree, with information being altered by a manager.
  • Poor Customer Service and Communication: Customers reported "awful experience, terrible communication and customer service, many weird, rude, and ignorant workers," including a manager who "rudely hung up in my face twice" and acted confused about a recently purchased animal.
  • Lack of Transparency: A customer observed the removal of a "Pedigreed" sticker from a tank after inquiring about pedigrees, suggesting a lack of transparency.

For North Carolina locals, the suitability of Friendly Pets in Greensboro as a go-to pet store warrants careful consideration. While its location within the easily accessible Friendly Center provides undeniable convenience, the extensive and severe negative feedback from recent customers raises significant concerns that directly impact its suitability for responsible pet owners in our community.

The core mission of any pet store should be the health and welfare of the animals it houses, coupled with ethical business practices and transparent customer service. Based on the provided customer reviews, Friendly Pets appears to fall short in these critical areas. Reports of animals exhibiting signs of severe neglect, such as the African Grey parrot with untreated health issues and animals housed in unsanitary and inadequate enclosures, are deeply troubling. For North Carolina residents who prioritize animal welfare, these accounts are likely to be a major deterrent. The description of animals being in "open enclosures for any customer to feed them whatever garbage," leading to potential harm for both animals and humans, further highlights concerns about safety and hygiene.

Furthermore, the detailed accounts of poor customer service, including rude staff, lack of knowledge regarding the animals they sell (e.g., gender, origin, pedigree), and an apparent lack of record-keeping, are highly concerning. The experience of being "rudely hung up in my face twice" and receiving what appeared to be a falsified or incomplete pedigree certificate speaks to a significant breakdown in professional conduct and transparency. In an age where information about responsible pet care is widely available, such basic failures in animal husbandry and customer communication are particularly alarming.

While the store might offer a variety of live animals and general pet supplies, the overwhelming negative experiences shared by local customers, focusing on ethical concerns and poor service, strongly suggest that Friendly Pets may not be the most suitable choice for North Carolina residents who seek a reputable, humane, and professional environment for their pet-related needs. For locals who care deeply about animal welfare and expect transparent, knowledgeable service, exploring alternative pet stores in the area that demonstrate higher standards of care and customer respect would be a more aligned decision.
