Secondhand Pet Supply is built on a foundation of sustainability and community support, offering a unique set of services that differentiate it from typical pet stores.
- Resale of Gently Used & New Pet Supplies: The core service is providing a wide variety of pre-loved and sometimes new pet products at significantly reduced prices. This includes items for cats, dogs, and a broad spectrum of other pets, such as custom-sized tanks for aquatic creatures or enclosures for small animals like snails.
- Donation Acceptance & Upcycling Program: They actively accept donations of gently used, new, and even damaged pet products (excluding expired food/medication). This fosters a circular economy, as items are inspected, cleaned, repaired, or upcycled into new supplies, preventing waste from going to landfills. Donors often receive discounts on in-store purchases.
- Expert & Friendly Customer Assistance: The staff is highly praised for their helpfulness and willingness to assist customers, even with "absurd requests" like finding specific enclosures for unique pets. They take time to understand customer needs and provide tailored recommendations.
- Product Swap Program: A unique benefit for customers is the ability to return supplies that pets no longer need or like and swap them for other items of equal or lesser value, further reducing waste and ensuring pet parents find suitable products.
- Community Support Focus: As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, their mission extends beyond retail, aiming to support the pet community by making pet care more affordable and sustainable.
Secondhand Pet Supply has garnered significant praise from the Oregon community due to several distinctive features and highlights that set it apart.
- Affordable Pricing & Significant Savings: A standout feature is the incredibly competitive pricing. Customers consistently report saving substantial amounts of money compared to buying new, making pet ownership more accessible and sustainable for local families. The owner's practice of checking current published costs and offering solid discounts underscores this commitment to affordability.
- Wide Variety Beyond Cats & Dogs: Unlike many pet stores that primarily focus on canine and feline needs, Secondhand Pet Supply offers a broad range of items suitable for diverse pets, including smaller animals and aquatic creatures, ensuring a more inclusive inventory.
- Exceptional Customer Service & Personalized Assistance: The staff, including the owner, is highlighted for their sincere care, extensive knowledge, and willingness to go "above and beyond." They patiently walk customers through options, offer recommendations, and provide genuine support, as seen with new kitten adopters needing "basically everything."
- Strong Environmental Mission & Sustainability Focus: The business is deeply rooted in eco-friendly practices, including reusing, repairing, and upcycling pet products. This appeals strongly to environmentally conscious Oregonians looking to reduce their "carbon paw-print."
- Community-Oriented Business Model: Operating as a nonprofit focused on supporting the pet community by extending product life and reducing waste, Secondhand Pet Supply embodies a local business that genuinely gives back and fosters a sense of shared values among its patrons.

Secondhand Pet Supply Reviews
Really love this spot now; saw SPS a few times in passing whilst in the Lloyd Center. Now I'm very happy I checked it out before shopping at any other pet store today! One of the few with a wide variety of pet items that aren't just for cats & dogs, all while still being super affordable. Got a custom smaller sized tank for $30, plus some extra & really cute enclosure stuff for my snail. It could've easily cost me a $100+ at any other retail petstore. Sounds crazy but it's true!Would also like mention I was assisted every step of the way as well. Even my absurd request for "something to put a snail in" was met with friendly assistance:-)TLDR: Great prices & great service. Here are some tank pictures for proof of quality. Thanks again!
May 11, 2025 · rayI cannot recommend Secondhand Pet Supply enough! Finding this place was a blessing because my partner and I are about to adopt two kittens, and we didn't have any kitty gear yet. The owner greeted us and, upon finding out we needed basically everything to care for our kitties, he took the time to walk us around the store & his storage unit, make recommendations as to what supplies we would need, and really showed sincerity and care in wanting to set us up for success in being cat moms! The pricing was very fair - he would look up current published cost for the items and give us a solid discount off of that. We ended up saving so much by buying everything from him instead of new. One of the best things is that if we no longer need the supplies we bought or our kitties don't like it/grow out of it, we can take it back to the store and swap it for something else of equal or lesser value! And even if donations are broken or ruined, they'll upcycle it into new supplies or fix it. Such a gem of a business to find that is focused on supporting the pet community - I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for pet gear!
Jun 29, 2025 · Janette RicoOkay shopping experience. I don't love that prices aren't marked. I think there are good deals on some items but the owner priced some things I was interested in in the same price I can get for new at HomeGoods or online. I like the sustainability aspect of the store but I didn't love my shopping experience.
Jun 09, 2025 · T TWeird experience, the items have no prices listed on the floor and the owner uses his phone to find the product online and sells it to you for half of that cost. I would rather that work be done ahead of time and price labels be put on so I don’t have to shop with an employee hovering over me doing lots of work while I price compare multiple items. A fine store, just a weird practice and if I come back, I will do my own googling to avoid the awkward closeness.
May 08, 2025 · Alyse ArrowoodI drove 30 mins for one item listen on Facebook was so excited to see it was there and someone passed it up. As soon I came in I picked it up and wandered around the store with the item for 10mins. As soon I asked for a price to check out another customer comes up to the cashier tells them they want it they and they take it out of my hand and give it to the other person, this ruined my shopping experience. They didn’t once tell me it was another persons nor did that person come up to me to tell me, only when I went to check out they take it from me. I ended up walking away upset that this has never happened to me before in any thrift store. This shopping experience became an over whelming and upsetting waste of my time to have an item taken from my hands as I went to pay for it. I wasnever told once another person was interested . Never again am I wasting my time to come back because they will just take what I want for buy and give it to the next customer who says they want it.Forget this place, there is better kinder places
