Features and Highlights
Acacia Pet Hospital of San Jose presents a dual narrative from its client reviews, showcasing both strong positive aspects and areas of concern, particularly related to recent operational changes.
- Professional, Kind-hearted, and Great Bedside Manner (Dr. Steele & Staff): A significant highlight is the compassionate and professional approach of Dr. Steele and her immediate staff. Clients praise their "great bedside manner," indicating a warm and empathetic interaction.
- Thorough and Non-Pressured Care: Dr. Steele is commended for being "thorough" in her examinations and providing necessary care without pushing unnecessary procedures. A client appreciated that they "never once tried to add any unnecessary procedures and I didn't feel pressured when I declined certain options." This transparency and respect for client choice are highly valued.
- Pet Comfort and Reduced Stress: A notable positive is the observed calm and less stressed demeanor of pets during visits, a testament to the staff's gentle handling and the clinic's environment. One client noted, "I can tell my cat was calm and not as stressed as other facilities he's been previously seen at."
- Clean and Large Facility: The physical environment is praised for being "large and clean," contributing to a comfortable and professional atmosphere.
- Accommodating Front Desk Staff (Positive Instance): In one positive review, the "front desk staff were so accommodating," particularly regarding a drop-off for an urgent, non-scheduled visit.
However, a long-term client's review points to significant challenges following a change in ownership and staff turnover:
- Decline in Quality of Service (Post-Ownership Change): A loyal client noted a "noticeably declined" quality of service over the past two years, specifically after a change in ownership and staff turnover.
- Administrative and Communication Issues: This includes "unfulfilled promises to email prescriptions," "scheduling errors," "incorrect appointment confirmations," and incorrect or incomplete "immunization records" (sent without dates).
- Issues with Prescribed Food/Product Availability: The clinic reportedly "no longer stock the prescribed food" for a cat, and there were "multiple attempts to connect with Chewy for orders" that failed, indicating potential supply chain or coordination problems.
- Unprofessional Staff Behavior (Specific Instance): A highly frustrating experience with a staff member named Vic, described as having an "argumentative attitude," led to a loyal client deciding to switch clinics after nearly 15 years.
- Nostalgia for Previous "Exceptional Service": The client explicitly misses the "exceptional service that Billy and Dr. Curly once offered," suggesting a previous higher standard of overall client care.
These contrasting reviews suggest that while the veterinary care provided by doctors like Dr. Steele can be excellent, administrative and client service aspects have presented challenges for some, particularly after recent operational changes.

Conclusion: Why This Place Is Suitable for Locals

The positive feedback highlights the professional, kind-hearted, and thorough approach of veterinarians like Dr. Steele and her immediate supporting staff, who are praised for their "great bedside manner" and for providing care without undue pressure. The observed calm demeanor of pets during visits and the clean facility also contribute to a positive clinical experience for many. For those seeking compassionate and medically sound treatment delivered with respect for their choices, Acacia Pet Hospital can be a suitable option.
However, prospective clients should be mindful of the significant administrative and client service challenges reported by a long-term client, particularly related to communication, scheduling accuracy, and staff demeanor following recent operational changes. Therefore, for locals considering Acacia Pet Hospital, it's recommended to factor in both the strong medical care attributes and the reported administrative issues, perhaps by making initial inquiries or visiting in person to gauge the current operational environment. For many, the direct care provided by the vets themselves may outweigh other concerns, making it a viable local choice for their pets' health.

Acacia Pet Hospital of San Jose Reviews
Dr. Steele and her staff are professional, kind-hearted, and have great bedside manner. My cat went in due to not pooping, peeing, eating, nor eating for 3 days due to excessive vomiting from his food.I didn't have an appointment, but they gladly took me in for a drop-off. Dr. Steele was thorough and provided my Chaplin with the care he needed. She never once tried to add any unnecessary procedures and I didn't feel pressured when I declined certain options.I've never had this experience with other several vet clinics in the past. I can tell my cat was calm and not as stressed as other facilities he's been previously seen at.The facility is large and clean. And the front desk staff were so accommodating.Thank you Acacia! We will switch over to you.Ps: my cat is back to normal
Mar 06, 2025 · Michell GenevieveI have been a loyal client of Acacia Pet Clinic for nearly 15 years. However, after the change in ownership and significant staff turnover, the quality of service has noticeably declined. Over the past two years, I've encountered numerous issues including unfulfilled promises to email prescriptions, scheduling errors, and incorrect appointment confirmations. Additionally, they no longer stock the prescribed food for my cat, and multiple attempts to connect with Chewy for orders have failed. When I requested immunization records, they were sent without the necessary dates, rendering them useless. While the veterinarians have always provided excellent care, I miss the exceptional service that Billy and Dr. Curly once offered. Today, I had an especially frustrating experience with a staff member named Vic, whose argumentative attitude made an already disappointing situation worse. Sadly, after years of loyalty, I will be taking my pets to a new clinic.
Sep 23, 2024 · Jody RossiI had the pleasure of visiting Acacia with my dog Louie and I must say that the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff, who showed genuine care and compassion for our furry friends. The veterinarian we saw was not only highly knowledgeable and skilled but also displayed a deep love for animals. They took the time to thoroughly examine my pet, explain the diagnosis in detail, and discuss the treatment options available. I felt reassured and confident in their expertise every step of the way.The clinic itself was clean, well-maintained, and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, which further added to the overall positive experience. The staff went above and beyond to make sure both my pet and I were comfortable and well taken care of throughout our visit.I left Acacia pet clinic feeling grateful for the exceptional care and attention my pet received. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for a veterinarian who truly cares about the well-being of animals. Thank you to the entire team for your dedication and commitment to providing top-notch care to my loved one. Also this under new management now ! FromWhat iv read from the comments!
Mar 19, 2024 · Gurnoor BrarI've been to Acacia vets 4 times, always assumed my disappointment might be "me" and dont really enjoy being negative. With years passing and staff/ownership changes, I hope for a better experience. Each time, this place seems to work at being dangerously deceptive.Medical care for my service animal, is medical care for me, so it shouldn't be a hustle or shakedown. However, each time Acacia is caught being less than forthright. They even send in a "closer" who reports to a "manager" to see how much they can "wring" out of you. Very frustrating. If you want to feel like you're buying a used car when seeking medical attention for your pet, this is the place for you.
