Had a great experience there today with my Maltese Shih-tsu and my Pomeranian. Jess, the vet tech, was absolutely amazing, as was the doctor, whose name I think was Dr. Root or Roop. I feel badly for not remembering! I highly recommend this place for your pets' care!
May 02, 2025 · Brett MalofskyI called Post Road Vet on 6/11/25 to schedule an appointment for my elderly 17 yr old cat due to a possible dental issue. My appointment was on 6/16/25.Post Road Vet has patrons wait in a waiting room while they take your pet into the back for exams.I was aware of this; however, I entrusted the Dr.The Dr. entered the patron waiting room, sat down with me and had a pleasant conversation.He explained my elderly cat had lost a few tiny front teeth that were of no consequence, however, he did have an infected back tooth.Otherwise, my cat is in good condition. He said he would be put on antibiotics. I was asked if I wanted pills or a 1 time shot. I opted for the antibiotic shot, and an updated rabies shot.After the Dr. left the room, the Vet Tech brought my cat out in his carrier. I then took my cat while in the carrier to the front desk to pay the bill. I briefly picked up the carrier and spoke to my cat while things were tallied up. He was drooling excessively and very ill. Not the same cat I brought in.Albeit, he was stressed from the ride there, but now he was worse.Things sped along and I was told the bill was $406.10This is for an office visit/exam/rabies shot/ and an antibiotic shot.I asked for the printout prior to paying.I noticed there was a charge for a Urinalysis. I mentioned that I did not have a Urinalysis done on my cat. The "new" CSR said "yes you did". I said, "I didn't bring in any urine" this was to have my cats' teeth looked at.She said, oh, we took your cats urine. I said how did you do that? She said we take it out by inserting a needle into the bladder.I was highly upset that the Dr. performed a Cystocentesis which is an invasive procedure without my consent or knowledge.He didn't even make mention of this when we had our end of appointment conversation.I demanded to know "why" my cat's urine was taken in the first place, and why I wasn't asked for consent.The CSR then went in back to get the Dr.Dr. N came into the office, charmingly laughed, and said, "oh yeah, I forgot to mention that".I said why would you do that? He said "because your cat has a small bald spot on his belly, it could be a sign of infection so we wanted to test his urine" "we can take that off the bill"and he quickly walked out of the office.His explanation did not correlate with me for a bald spot, for not asking for consent, and not informing me at the post visit conversation. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't looked at the bill.The "procedure" (because that's what it was) was crossed off the bill, in pen.The bill total wasn't my point at all, even though it was outrageous, and not what I have been used to being a long-time client. The real issue was swiftly swept under the rug. No apologies, no professionalism, no accountability.I mentioned I probably wouldn't be coming back there again, took my cat and left.My cat was just not the same, and very ill after this visit, however I'm leaving the post visit out of this review.Another thing I'd like to mention is Post Road Vet had "Partnered" with "Hometown Veterinary Partners" do some research.Being a longtime patron, I was never notified of this new "Partnership" which to me is a chain even though they say they are a "Partnership of Veterinarian's"I wasn't notified of price increases. Why wouldn't patrons be included with notifications of these major changes?They also now have an "Office Manager" and other Veterinarians practicing there on a part time basis.The bills have skyrocketed; you're not notified of which vet youwill be seeing.A letter of notice in the mail to all patrons detailing these big changes in the practice would have been a nice courtesy, even though it is not a legal requirement.It seems accountability, professionalism, conduct and ethics are in question here. Hopefully present and future patients will not have similar experiences, as we all want what is best for our pets.I will be leaving an additional review at another time in regard to another incident that took place while my cat was being examined, as it was a separate issue.
Jul 03, 2025 · Marie HebertI recently moved to the area and scheduled a visit for my dog to establish her and get her prescriptions set up. I was a little put off at how long it took to get an appointment - I had to send all of her records to them before they would make an appointment, which I sent on December 30. I called on January 10th after not hearing anything, and they said they would call that day or the following Monday to schedule an appointment, but didn't call back until Tuesday the 14th. I then had to pay a $147 deposit to make the appointment, which I can understand, but it seemed steep. Everyone was super nice, though, so I figured it would be fine. At the appointment, we got in super quick, but I was immediately asked to muzzle my dog. I've never had to do this before, she has no bite history and has never been aggressive with people. I was told she needed the muzzle because she had a note in her record that she doesn't get along with other dogs, so they needed to protect themselves. There were no other dogs there, so I still didn't understand, but I complied with their request. It seemed bizarre that I was given no warning of this, and it really stressed out my dog. After telling the tech what my concerns were about my dog, she took her into the back to be examined. I mentioned that I've never not been present for a vet exam for any of my pets, and she said "Dr. Nicholson just does things differently." Meanwhile, there was music blaring from the back, which concerned me since my dog was already nervous and now was going to be with complete strangers in a loud environment.Dr. Nicholson came in to talk to me after examining her, without asking for any specifics about the skin issues I was concerned with (she has several bumps that I had hoped to point out), but he still seemed very nice and thorough, so I felt comfortable with his recommendations. I told him she needed a new Heartgard and Nexgard prescription, which he said I could get through the practice's online pharmacy since they don't carry Nexgard in the store. I said I might do Chewy if it was cheaper, and he told me to compare costs and use whichever one was better. When I checked out after the visit, they tried to charge me as if I had not paid the deposit, and I had to ask them to double-check the bill. As it was, this was the most expensive new patient appointment I've ever had for a pet but quite a bit (the exam fee was $155; at our previous vet it was $65).When I tried to order the medications on Chewy, I got a message saying I needed to call the vet. I did, and I was told I had to come back to the vet and pay $5.00 to get the prescriptions since they "don't really work with Chewy." So even though the doctor knew I might be using Chewy and had all the information to write the prescription, I was still going to be charged a fee and have to make the drive out to pick up the prescription since I wasn't using their more expensive service. Despite how kind and knowledgeable the vet and staff were (except for the fill-in tech who told me not to use chlorhexidine on my dog's paws and then tried to sell me wipes with chlorhexidine in them), I felt like there were just too many strikes in my first visit to make me want to go back. If money is at all a concern, this is not the vet for you unfortunately.
