Alston Darin DVM Introduce
For pet owners in the Jonesboro area of Georgia and the wider Metro Atlanta region, securing a veterinary practice that combines professional, high-quality medical services with genuine affordability is a key priority. **AVS Animal Hospital**, led by Dr. Darin D. Alston, DVM, aims to fulfill this need by providing comprehensive pet care with a mission centered on treating every animal as a member of the family. Since opening in 1997, Dr. Alston, a 1995 graduate of Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, has been dedicated to serving the community, emphasizing professional, ethical, and compassionate service.
The hospital's philosophy, "Because your pet is a member of the family," guides their approach to every aspect of care, from routine **Vaccinations** and **Puppy Shots** to complex **Surgery** and **Intensive Care**. The staff at AVS Animal Hospital is committed not only to delivering excellent medical treatments but also to educating their clients on preventative care, ensuring pets remain happy and healthy throughout their lives. The team strives to be courteous, supportive, and attentive to the needs of both the pet and the owner.
Customer feedback offers a dual perspective on the hospital. On one hand, many long-term clients express profound loyalty and satisfaction. One resident who moved to the area found Dr. Alston and his team to be the "perfect fit," praising the team for being "Very knowledgeable" and treating their pets "like their own." Crucially, they noted that the hospital's **prices are extremely reasonable**, highlighting that the team is "not out there charging as much as possible just to fill their pockets." This reputation for affordability and knowledgeable, personalized care has cultivated a dedicated client base, with some relationships spanning over 20 years.
Conversely, some recent reviews express significant dissatisfaction, citing concerns about overcharging for services and a lack of direct communication or warmth from the veterinarian, with one person stating they felt the service was "only there for the money" and found the building’s interior and exterior to be unappealing. This divergence in experiences highlights the importance of clear, upfront communication regarding costs and procedures, and managing client expectations, especially in a busy **Animal Hospital** environment. Pet owners in the Georgia area are encouraged to communicate their needs and expectations regarding costs before authorizing any extensive **Medical Procedures** or **Diagnostic Services**.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- He over charge on everything. Make up diagnosis and never answers direct questions. He acts as if he's annoyed with you even being there. I truly feel he's only there for the money and up charge you on everything. He's already in a dilapidated looking building and it looks the same inside. Disgusting. I won't be returning. - We love AVS! We moved to the area last year and have bounced around Vets offices to find someone we like. Dr. Alston and his team were the perfect fit!Very knowledgeable about anything that could be the cause for any visit and his team treats our babies like their own. Never once have we been displeased with the service there!Even better, their prices are extremely reasonable as well! They're not out there charging as much as possible just to fill their pockets. - I took my dog here as a same day add on bc he was trembling and yelping and suddenly couldn't walk up any steps. They took my dog in the back for a couple mins and then the doctor appeared in the doorway (never entered the room) to let me know nothing was wrong with my dog and although his pupils were dilated indicating he was in pain, it was just a behavioral issue, or a residual ear infection. I asked if it could be something wrong with his stomach and the doctor condescendingly told me he "can't SEE into the dog's stomach" as if I thought he had xray vision. Overall a very dismissive demeanor. I called them at 8 am the next morning to say my dog was still having the same symptoms and they told me they were booked and to take him somewhere else. I took their advice and he was diagnosed with a spinal injury. The new vet showed me where on the bottom of his back he would react to the pain. I'm upset about the treatment my dog and I received here and would not recommend this place to anyone. November 16 · Lina Martinez
- The first time I was here was a very difficult day because I had to have one of our fur babies laid to rest, so I tried to caulk what I thought was him being uncaring to the state of mind and emotion I was in. I referred a friend to him that had to go through the same ordeal I'd just gone through and she spoke very highly of him. So taking her experience with him at such a dismal time I decided to give him another chance and that maybe I'd just jumped the gun before... So I took my 6 year old Siamese mix cat to him because she was rapidly losing weight even though her food intake had increased asking with her water intake. He ran a few test, came out and very callously announced that she has diabetes. Needless to say I became very emotional. The next thing I know one of the assistants is standing there with a bill in her hand with an estimate ($456) which turned out to be double of what the bill ($240) was. Well with what he said about her blood glucose being high and how dangerous it is I don't understand why he didn't administer insulin to her. Actually I do know why... When I explained that I could pay half of it right then but would need to pay the balance in payments he completely dismissed me and my cat. I was never given any information about cars with diabetes(Honestly I didn't even know cats could get it), no pamphlets no nothing, I did ask the assistant if I needed a certain monitor to check her sugar at home so when she came back she said the vet said... (I don't recommend it, it's not as easy as I think it is) I was never told what her sugar should be compared to what it was, I was never told to make a follow up appointment, He never even asked me if I knew how to administer insulin. The assistant caught up to me in the lobby with a syringe to show me how much to give her but I had to ask where the the injection should be. Now keep in mind I wasn't given it leaving there with any insulin which I had to go back the next day and purchase for an additional $75 March 09 · Deborah Stephens
