The success stories, such as dogs regaining mobility after paralysis, highlight the profound impact that these specialized treatments can have. It’s a testament to the power of integrating diverse medical knowledge to achieve the best possible outcomes for our furry family members, offering new avenues for relief and recovery that many might not have considered before.

Animal Acupuncture Westside specializes in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), offering a focused range of services designed to promote healing and improve quality of life for pets. Their expertise lies in these specialized, complementary therapies. The primary services offered include:
- Acupuncture: The core of their practice, involving the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the animal’s body. This is used to stimulate energy flow, relieve pain, and promote natural healing.
- Electro-acupuncture: A highly effective form of acupuncture where a mild electrical current is passed through the needles. This enhances the therapeutic effect, particularly beneficial for neurological conditions, paralysis, and severe pain relief, as evidenced by successful cases of dogs regaining mobility.
- Chinese Herbal Medicine: The use of carefully selected herbal formulas to complement acupuncture treatments. These natural remedies help to restore balance within the body, address underlying imbalances, and support various organ systems, aiding in recovery from chronic conditions and improving overall vitality.
- Treatment for Musculoskeletal Problems: Addressing conditions such as arthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia, back pain, and muscle soreness, aiming to improve mobility and reduce discomfort.
- Treatment for Neurological Disorders: Specializing in conditions like intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), paralysis, seizures, and nerve injuries, with a focus on restoring nerve function and improving motor control.
- Pain Management: Providing effective, often drug-free or reduced-drug, solutions for chronic pain in pets, significantly improving their comfort and quality of life.
- Quality of Life Improvement for Senior Pets: Helping older animals regain energy, improve appetite, and enhance their overall well-being, allowing them to enjoy their golden years more fully.

Animal Acupuncture Westside Reviews
Dr. Fred Schlesinger has been such an ally in helping heal our dog Sausha. We were very worried that she would never walk again after finding her paralyzed in our backyard after work one day. Within a few weeks Sausha began to walk and wag her tail! We would highly recommend his treatments. She started out on electro-acupuncture and Chinese herbs. We now go just for regular acupuncture.
Jan 03, 2020 · Stephanie MorrisI think Dr S is a wizard. Our 15 year old pibble could barely walk, was listless and had no appetite. He was a little better after 1 treatment. He now has lots of energy, a great appetite and more interest in what is going on around him. He even romps on occasion. I cannot recommend Animal Accupuncture Westside enough.
Mar 10, 2023 · Martha Weeks GreenWe have been going to Animal Acupuncture Westside for over a year now and it has been life changing for my older dog. Dr. Schlesinger has been nothing short of compassionate and knowledgeable in his field and has truly helped my dog. It has been a slow but very progressive journey but there is a big difference from where we started to now.
Oct 16, 2024 · Cereese WellsWe first took Snowbelle, a then 8-year-old boxer, to Animal Acupuncture Westside about two years ago. She suffered from a case of sciatica which made it very challenging for her to get around in addition to affecting her appetite and zest for life. Originally, I had my doubts about what acupuncture could accomplish, not just in dogs but also in humans; thinking that perhaps a good amount of what gets reported is placebo. After visiting our western medicine vet clinic, we soon reached the limit of what western medicine could accomplish. So as a last-ditch effort, we decided to take Snowbelle to Animal Acupuncture Westside. Dr. Schlesinger was very competent, knowledgeable and informative. He walked us through some of the rudimentary terms of the eastern medicine approach, explaining some of the ins and outs of Snowbelle’s chi. In just three weeks, Snowbelle started showing a drastic improvement . And after six weeks, she made a full recovery having undergone Dr. Schlesinger’s treatment plan. While I initially had my doubts, I can say without reservation that Dr. Schlesinger’s practice is unmatched. He has since treated Snowbelle’s GI issues to great effect and her sciatica has never returned. We continue to see Dr. Schlesinger and would highly recommend this practice to all pet owners. We give Animal Acupuncture Westside a 5 out of 5 for competence, professionalism, friendliness, convenience and affordability.
Jan 07, 2018 · Ruinous MightBrought our boy Sherlock (Giant Schnauzer/ Poodle mix) to Animal Acupuncture Westside after a lack of diagnosis or effective treatment via conventional veterinary practices for the weakness and immobility he was experiencing in his hind legs. He couldn’t get up from the floor on his own, often slipped and fell when walking, and would fall down trying to go up stairs. At 8 1/2 years young, there had to be options for my long-time adventure partner. Our regular vet mentioned acupuncture and I thought, “what have we got to lose.” Dr. Schlesinger was very thorough in his initial assessment of Sherlock, and we started seeing him weekly for a few sessions, then every two weeks for acupuncture, the occasional cold laser, and the supplemental Chinese herbs we would add to Sherlock’s food. We didn’t see immediate results, but heeded the expertise of Dr. Schlesinger that every patient responds differently, and that some require a longer period of consistent treatment. So we stuck with it, and I’m so glad we did! After six months of acupuncture, herbs, and some dietary changes, we saw not just results, but phenomenal results! Sherlock can now walk up stairs, no problem, got back enough energy to rough-house with his 3-year old fur brother, and has been doing short hikes with the family. I’m so grateful to Dr. Schlesinger for his expertise and kindness throughout this challenging season! We now maintain Sherlock’s progress with a visit every 3 weeks, and Sherlock loves the focused attention at each session and the cookie at the end! Now at 9 3/4 years young, Sherlock is thriving!
