- I left my small home town years ago, and tried other vets after I moved. Lesson learned, I will make the drive. I will pass no less than 30 vets on my way. And I will take my pets to Dr. Bader. He is a truly kind man, putting the well being of the animals first. Springfield vets charge twice as much, but I would go to Dr. Bader even if his prices tripled, he is a Godsend. - OMG, THE BEST VET THERE IS!!!Story as to why:I have known the Bader family since I was in kindergarten. I always knew Dr.Bader was a vet, but I never had a pet until my sophomore year of college (Beginning of COVID) when I was quarantining in Carthage. My lab/pyrenees mix was pretty skinny, and the only time she had to go to the vet was for shots. As a Mizzou student, I always just got her shots done at the cheapest vet I could find in Columbia. Once I got her spayed at her original vet in Carthage is when she started to pack on some weight. My dog went from 7 pounds at 10 weeks old (May 2020) to 50 pounds at 1 year (March 2021), then to 100 pounds at 2 (March 2022), and 120 pounds before her 3rd birthday (December 2022). She was about 40 pounds overweight. The vet in Columbia never said anything about her weight. I noticed she hated walking, she couldn't jump in the car anymore, and she was uncomfortable when she would lay down. I went back to the Columbia vet and asked about her weight and got, "Yeah, she's a bit overweight, but she's still young to where it hasn't affected her. When she turns about 6 or so, she may experience some health issues like arthritis or diabetes." I asked what I could do now so that we can avoid that in the future, and they said diet.Okay, so we started at a strict 4 cups of food a day, and we went in after a month to get weighed again, and she gained weight again. We went down to 3 cups of food and went in after a month, and there was no weight change. We went down to 2.5 cups of food and went in again and nothing. We added green beans, extra walks, different food, etc.I even went to a different vet, and the results were the same. However, they would never do blood work or do imaging because she was "too young." For about a year, my dog went from 120 pounds to 118.6. I felt so discouraged and was so scared for her health as she was approaching her 4th birthday.Thank goodness my parents still live in Aurora. My mom said, "Do you want me to call Dr.Bader and ask him if you can come in during your Thanksgiving break (November 2023)? I hear he's great." They got me in pretty much ASAP! He immediately drew blood to test her for anything. Thank goodness it turned out my obese dog is perfectly healthy! He ended up putting my dog on a new diet and some thyroid medication. He told me to come back in a month to see if it worked. Here comes December 2023, and my dog was at 110 pounds. Here comes January 2024, and my dog is at 103 pounds! In 2 months, my dog has lost 17 pounds! Our goal is about 85 pounds, so we are hoping that by April she meets her healthy goal weight!Thank you, Dr.Bader! You did something amazing in 2 months that other vets couldn't do in a year!Dr.Bader is my hero, and I will recommend him to everyone! My dog is my absolute world, and I couldn't thank him enough for helping my dog even if I tried. Thanks to him, I don't have to worry about losing my dog earlier than I have to.Here is Lily saying thank you for helping her be able to run around, jump in the car, and lay down comfortably again!
