When considering a veterinary hospital in Illinois, it is essential to weigh both the positive and negative aspects. Banfield Pet Hospital has a unique business model that provides both significant benefits and potential drawbacks. While some customers have expressed serious concerns regarding communication, scheduling, and in some tragic cases, the outcome of procedures, it is important to recognize that a large corporate model can sometimes face challenges with consistency across its many locations. The most severe negative review, concerning the loss of a pet, is deeply concerning and highlights the importance of thorough communication and professional conduct. Such an event is a tragedy, and it's understandable that a pet owner would feel devastated and distrustful. However, other reviews point to positive experiences with caring staff and doctors who are gentle and professional. These mixed experiences suggest that the quality of care can vary depending on the specific individuals on staff at a given time. The hospital is known for its Optimum Wellness Plans, which, for many pet owners, offer a budget-friendly way to manage routine healthcare costs. This subscription-style model helps pet parents budget for vaccinations, regular exams, and other preventative services without a sudden, large bill. The convenience of their location inside a PetSmart and the availability of digital tools for managing appointments and records are also major advantages for busy people. For those who prioritize a predictable cost structure and easy access for routine care, Banfield can be a suitable choice. However, for those with complex or serious medical needs, it may be worth seeking a more specialized local practice. Ultimately, choosing to go with Banfield Pet Hospital in Champaign means opting for a model that prioritizes preventative care and convenience, while also being mindful of the importance of establishing a strong and transparent relationship with the specific veterinary team you work with.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1To get prescription pet food from the Pet Smart you have to have a card from this pet hospital. That wouldn't be an issue if there was ever anyone there. They often have a vet there 1 day a week and when you show up on that scheduled day they didn't show up due to some conflict. The Pet Smart would always sell me the food with a prescription but would always hassle me about not having that stupid card. We can't get the card Linda until you have a vet that actually shows up not this pretend vet that totally is real and totally lives in Canada that we will get to meet some day.
January 09 · Thadeous CooperDONT BRING YOUR PETS HERE! On January 20,2025 a doctor at Banfield killed my dog. He went in for a regular routine dental cleaning that he had done before. I did a regular drop off in the morning & received a call @ 3:07 pm saying my dog was waking up from anesthesia everything went great & at 4pm he will be ready for pick up. I get there @ 4:19pm the doctor wanted to speak with me he said that all of a sudden my dog was on oxygen having a hard time breathing & turning purple. I was confused & in shock because he was stating that it was possible that he wouldn’t make it. I was asking questions just wondering how this all happened Dr. pettyJohn was very insensitive rude & unprofessional. He didn’t care how I felt or answering any of the important questions on how it happened. He kept bringing up the fact that I was 19 minutes late AS IF that was going to make a difference! I couldn’t believe the way I was treated even after the fact my dog died in his care. Even today I still don’t know how my dog died. He was perfectly healthy & just came in to get his regular dental cleaning! I believe they gave him too much anesthesia & don’t want to admit it! DONT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!
January 21 · Yellahwhen I signed up, I told him that the entire plan was $400 dollars deferred for one year and it hasn't even been two months and they have already discounted almost $200. In addition, they plan to deduct $39 dollars each month, which is unfair because if I multiply it by 12, the registration fee is too much. In this place my cat got fleas and since I complained about them on the next visit they made me buy a treatment for her. There they prepare the "medicines" and get additional money for everything.
January 13 · Teacher DiannyThe workers here are nice and really seem to care about the animals that come through. It is not the cheapest veterinarian I have been to, but they do CareCredit which is a big plus. Because it is attached to PetSmart, animals that are a bit scared of other people and animals could struggle here, so that is something to consider. They do schedule late appointments (out to 6pm I believe) which is really nice for after work.
July 26 · Austin RussellIt was awful. I made an appointment a week ago for my cat. But on the date of the appointment, I got here and they were closed and there was nobody there. They even sent me a conformation message. Why bother? My cat went out for no reason, and she kept meowing. I had to rebook her to another pet hospital now.
