Animal hospital, Emergency veterinarian service ★3.0

1008 W Hazelwood Dr, Urbana, IL 61802, USA

3.0
I simply cannot say enough good things about the staff, the students, and the doctors at this facility. We've been so fortunate to have them care for both our cat and our dog since our family moved back to central IL. Having a pet that needs more than just routine care is expensive no matter where you have them treated, but the teaching hospital is more affordable than a lot of private practice hospitals, and the care your pet will get here comes with the benefit of clinicians that specialize and are constantly learning and studying. When our cat needed tooth extractions, the dentistry team got her in and out of surgery with no complications, giving Pixel back her quality of life in a day, and for roughly sixty percent of the cost at other veterinary dentists in our area. But it's our sweet pup Teddy who really benefitted from years of excellent disease management from the neurology team, and I will forever be grateful for every single person who had a hand in his treatment. The kindness, compassion, patience, and quality of care that Teddy received from Dr. Fox, her predecessor Dr. Graham, and the supervising physicians on the team, was equal to or better than the care he received from his first neurologist in private practice at a state of the art facility in a different city. We were gently guided through and always informed about his needs with each visit, and the doctors and staff were always clear about our options for treatment and the costs, benefits, and risks involved along the way. More importantly, I never once doubted that the neurology team was doing their very best for Teddy as if he was one of their own. The pharmacy was always timely with medication refill requests, and most of our prescriptions were cheaper than online pharmacy prices too (I shopped around). The customer service folks always have a smile for you at the front desk and check-in and check-out during regular hours is always a pleasant experience. Now that Teddy is gone, I mostly hope to never need the university hospital ever again, but a small part of me is sad that we have no immediate need to visit in the future simply because of what wonderful people are learning and working here. 5 stars for the hospital in general, and an infinite number of stars for the neurology team. Any pet parent who wants a job done well by a caring team for a fair price simply can't do any better than U of I. Thank you, Vet Med, for taking such good care of our fur babes and making difficult times for our family manageable. - Veronica Adams Coulter
