- Optimum Wellness Plans (OWPs): This is arguably Banfield's most distinctive feature. OWPs are bundled preventive care packages that help make routine veterinary services more affordable through predictable monthly payments. They typically include unlimited office visits, annual exams, vaccinations, and various diagnostic tests, encouraging consistent preventive care.
- Focus on Preventive Care: The core philosophy of Banfield is centered on proactive health management. Their OWP structure encourages regular check-ups and early detection, aiming to prevent more serious and costly health issues down the line.
- Network Accessibility: Being part of a large national chain means that a pet's medical records can often be accessed at any Banfield location across the country, which is convenient for pet owners who travel or relocate within the Banfield network.
- Convenient PetSmart Location: Many Banfield hospitals are located inside PetSmart stores, offering a streamlined experience for pet owners who can combine their veterinary visit with purchasing pet supplies, grooming, or training services.
- Supportive Staff (for some interactions): Positive feedback often highlights individual staff members who are kind, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile, such as staying after hours to assist with prescription needs, demonstrating a genuine care for pets and their owners.
- Digital Communication Tools: Features like a text message update system during hospitalization (as mentioned in customer feedback for other VCA locations, which Banfield also employs) or 24/7 Pet Chat™ (for OWP members) aim to keep pet owners informed and reduce anxiety.
It is important for pet owners to be actively engaged in their pet's health decisions and to communicate thoroughly with the veterinary team about all symptoms and concerns, especially when complex health issues are suspected. While the OWP model is designed for routine care, ensuring a comprehensive diagnostic approach for new or worsening symptoms is crucial.

Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
I was able to get a Prescription Card from one of the kind people that worked here, so that I could get my kitty his prescription food. They were willing to stay after hours to help me. They also kept a nice light conversation up so that time would pass quicker. I am so grateful and just wanted to share that they really really care about your pets.
Apr 15, 2025 · Caitlin MillerMISSED HEARTFAILURE: Been using them for 5 years. It’s been “eh” the whole time. I feel like this place should be used for shots and fecal exams only. Took my dog here on her last visit cause she wasn’t herself, wasn’t eating, wasn’t being super active. Dr. Checked her out and told me it was probably allergies. Two days later I had to take her to emergency. Turns out she had a heart tumor that had been developing for a while. The ER drs said they could barely hear her heartbeat. Why didn’t the banfield Dr catch this at least?? The ER doctor let me listen to how muffled it was, even I could tell she was dying.
May 27, 2025 · Barrackus !My baby girl wasn't doing well at all, and her primary vet didn't have availability. Banfield was the most convenient option. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good prognosis. This was the worst day of my life. But everybody I interacted with here did what they could to comfort us, and help us with next steps.Thank you 💔
Mar 26, 2025 · Rachel PhillipsTerrible service, don't come here for prescribed food unless you already have a card.Came here twice for an rx card, the first time they closed 15 minutes before the closing time, second time they told me the prescribed food can't be abbreviated. The prescription said rcp meaning Royal Canin Prescribed....Went to another Banfield the same day and got my RX card without issues.
Jun 15, 2025 · Alberto LopezBanfield put my cat under anesthesia, then the vet called to tell me she did not have time to perform the procedure due to her busy schedule. This was despite having confirmed the plan with the front desk during scheduling, confirmed during drop-off, and reassured it would be done by the vet tech pre surgery. After becoming (justifiably) upset the vet said she could do part of the procedure, but we would need to come back on a day when they had more time and pay again. The manager then had the audacity to call me at 7 pm on a Saturday to harass me for payment for putting my cat under anesthesia even though they did not complete what was promised. I caught him in multiple lies-- he then threatened to send the bill to collections and refused to acknowledge it apologize for how misleading his staff was and that it was his branches poor scheduling that lead to my cat unnecessarily being put under anesthesia.Do not use Banfield if you love your pet. Especially not the one on 9300 S Ih 35, Austin, TX 78748.
