Canine Physical Rehab & Recreation, INC Introduce
For devoted dog owners in Illinois, the sight of a beloved pet struggling with mobility, recovering from surgery, or showing signs of aging can be heartbreaking. The good news is that a specialized and compassionate approach to care is available. In Montgomery, Illinois, Canine Physical Rehab & Recreation, INC, offers a unique set of services focused on restoring a dog’s well-being and improving their quality of life. This facility is not a traditional veterinary clinic, but rather a dedicated physical rehabilitation center that works to help dogs regain strength, mobility, and happiness.
Founded in 2008 and with over two decades of experience in the field, this women-owned business is built on a passion for canine wellness. The team, including Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner Becca Lord, utilizes a blend of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and advanced modalities to address a wide range of conditions. Their mission is to provide the highest possible quality of life for your pet, whether they are a young dog recovering from an injury, a senior dog dealing with arthritis, or a service dog in need of conditioning. The facility has garnered a reputation for its expertise and success in helping dogs with challenging conditions, including a 95% success rate for dogs who have had a disc extrusion.
It is important for pet owners to be aware of the business's history, as a negative review from October 2023 alleges a dangerous and traumatizing incident involving a service dog. The client claims that an employee, who is now the current owner, mistreated the dog during a swim appointment, ignoring safety protocols and causing the dog to vomit from excessive water intake. The review also alleges that the business dismissed concerns and blocked the client on social media. While other reviews praise the staff as "excellent" and "caring," highlighting positive outcomes, prospective clients should take all available information into consideration to make an informed decision for their pet's safety and well-being.

What is worth choosing
Choosing a facility for your dog’s rehabilitation is a decision that requires careful consideration. For Illinois residents looking for specialized care beyond what a general vet can offer, Canine Physical Rehab & Recreation, INC provides a focused and expert approach. The fact that the clinic is staffed by professionals with over two decades of experience in this specific field, and led by a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner, offers a level of expertise that is difficult to find elsewhere. Many satisfied customers have shared stories of dramatic improvements in their dogs' mobility and quality of life, citing outcomes like a dog being "back to her puppy days" after a program for knee issues. The clinic's success with challenging conditions, such as disc extrusion, further speaks to their professional capabilities.
However, it is also important for clients to be aware of the serious public warning from a former client regarding alleged mistreatment and safety lapses. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My dog was born with a genetic defect in her knees and in an attempt to avoid surgery (and the recovery) I reached out to Canine rehab. The program they put her on over a couple of weeks including support for at home changes…has changed her life and significantly improved her activity level…she is back to her puppy days before the arthritis kicked in. The vet has confirmed it has significantly improved her knees as well. Skye is an excellent therapist and my dog loved her (especially in the pool). We are grateful we found this facility.
August 26 · C Howard⚠️ Public Warning / Review ⚠️On October 23, 2023, my service dog Journey (then 13 months old) was mistreated and placed in danger at Canine Physical Rehab during a swim appointment.Journey had never worked with Becca before (who is now the current owner). Upon meeting him for the first time, she unhooked his leash in the lobby without my permission or following any of the usual safety protocols. Multiple safety gates and doors to the pool area were left open, and Journey—like most Goldens with a strong water drive—ran straight into the pool unsupervised. At that moment:• He was still wearing an electronic collar, putting him at risk.• No staff were in the pool room to ensure his safety.• He dove in unsupervised, which could have caused serious injury or drowning.Once in the pool, Becca ignored my repeated warnings that Journey required a toy in his mouth to prevent him from swallowing water (as his prior instructors had always done). Instead, she insisted he was “not swimming correctly” and began physically throwing him toward the pool stairs and table to force him into positions.Afterward, she told me Journey would be “punished” for running into the pool by being required to stand on equipment and watch the water instead of swimming for half his session—completely inappropriate and cruel. The results of this session:• Journey consumed so much water that he vomited repeatedly for over an hour afterward.• Our vet was concerned about possible dry drowning due to the excessive water intake.• The violent handling left him traumatized—and it traumatized us as his family to witness. When I voiced these concerns, the business dismissed them. Since then, they have also blocked me on all social media, preventing me from commenting and sharing what happened, which feels like an attempt to hide the truth. With Becca now the owner, I strongly warn other pet parents: this is not a safe place to bring your dog. Journey is a certified service and therapy dog, trained and experienced, yet he was still put at risk here. If this could happen to him, it could happen to anyone’s dog.Your pet’s safety and well-being are too important to risk.
August 18 · Misty WeirMy husband and I cannot say enough good things about Canine Physical Rehab. The whole staff is so warm and friendly with our dog. They really make sure the pets feel "comfortable" with their experience so that it is not a negative or anxiety producing place for them to come. They take extra precautions so that each dog remains separate from other dogs and each has their own calming space and time. The water treadmill, incline treadmill and pool have been very beneficial to our dog. You can really tell that everyone that works there has a big heart for pets and wants the best for each of them. We travel almost an hour to get there and it is well worth it!
July 24 · Shannon CavazosIf you need someone who is as serious as you are about your dog's wellness and recovery, look no further, the staff here genuinely care about the cause and are extremely well trained. The facility is well kept and managed, I loved the pool area, they understand that dogs coming here have orthopedic issues and the deck is all wood with solid mats covering the walk way to the deck, absolutely no chance of your dog slipping over or finding hard to get up and walk. The equipments are modern and operated by professionals who know what they are doing! Highly recommend.
December 18 · Rohit MishraImpossible to understate how strongly I recommend Carol and her team. I was a vet tech for many years and have been a manager of veterinary clinics. When my dog was paralyzed in a car accident, the research told me to come here and i couldn't be happier. My dogs progress has been nothing short of amazing and he is nearly walking, two months out from an accident that rendered him quadriplegic. Carol and her fabulously knowledgeable team are bringing Fizban back to his full glory!
