Choosing a veterinary clinic for your animal is a critical decision, and Cass Veterinary Services offers a number of reasons why it's worth considering. The sheer breadth of their services is a major advantage. Having a single practice that can care for a dog, a cat, and a horse is a rare and valuable find. This integrated approach can simplify the lives of multi-animal households and large animal owners, providing a consistent level of care across all their animals. The convenience of a one-stop-shop for everything from routine vaccinations to complex surgeries and even grooming services is a significant benefit.
The positive experiences highlighted by one reviewer speak to the quality of the medical staff and the compassionate environment. The reviewer's praise for the "knowledgeable and friendly" staff and the sense of relief that their cat was in "good hands" after a vaccine reaction underscores the level of trust they felt. The successful grooming and easy scheduling also point to a positive customer experience on a day-to-day basis. This kind of personal endorsement of the veterinarian and the medical care provided is often what drives a pet owner's loyalty.
However, it is also important to address the negative experiences that some customers have had, as this provides a more balanced perspective. A different reviewer detailed a series of frustrating interactions with the front office staff, citing issues with appointment scheduling and a lack of communication regarding changes in hours. The reviewer's account of driving a long distance only to find the clinic unexpectedly closed is a powerful example of how operational inefficiencies can overshadow the quality of the medical staff. This negative experience, which led the client to seek a new vet, highlights the critical role that a well-run front office plays in the overall perception of a business. The lack of a follow-up call after leaving a "strongly worded voice-mail" further compounded the client's frustration and feelings of being unheard.
Despite these contrasting experiences, what remains clear is the clinic’s potential and core strengths. The veterinarian himself is described as "excellent," which is the most crucial part of any veterinary practice. While the front office and communication issues are serious and need to be considered, the medical expertise at the heart of Cass Veterinary Services appears to be highly regarded. For a pet or large animal owner in Illinois, finding a vet with a wide range of services and a reputation for excellent clinical care can be the primary factor in their decision. The clinic's ability to provide a full spectrum of care for so many different types of animals makes it an indispensable asset to the community, offering services that might otherwise require visits to multiple specialists.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I love Cass Veterinary Clinic! The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Opie, my cat, got groomed and they did a wonderful job. He has had to stay in the hospital a couple of days after a vaccine reaction and it is nice to know he’s in good hands! Pricing is good and scheduling appointments is easy. Such a relief to have a caring group of people to take care of our needs. Thank you!!
June 30 · LauraI took my dog here his entire life (5 years) but in the past year something has severely changed with the office staff. The last wellness exam my dog had at 1pm.I drive 30 minutes to get here from Springfield because I liked the vet so much. This past appointment when I showed up at 12:50pm and there was a sign on the door indicating the staff was on lunch. The building was locked and the lights were off, which fair enough, I have no qualms about waiting. Keep in mind my dog is a 90 lbs German Shepherd, traveling with just me in the car for nearly 45 minutes. Here comes 1:15pm and past my 1:00pm appointment so I decide to get lunch to destress and call Cass vet back. They pick up and it's 1:30pm the staff was very apologetic when they answered and assured me Ringo would be seen immediately and he was and all was well. Or so I thought....08/14/2025I called Cass Vet Thursday at 8:38am and asked if I could purchase month supply of flea/tick/heartworm medicine. The staff say yes and tell me I can pick up anytime. I go about my errands and drive from Springfield to Jacksonville and arrive about 12:15pm and see the buildings lights are off and a new sign is on the door saying the hours changed as of 3/30/2025 the new hours now being closed at NOON on THURSDAY. The staff failed to inform me of the new hours and I used a 1/4 tank of gasoline for nothing.I am beyond upset and disappointed and called Cass Vet again at precisely 12:18pm and left a very strongly worded voice-mail about my experience and how upsetting it is.Here is it now Friday 8/15/2025 and I have gotten no follow up call or acknowledgment of what transpired. I called today at 8:43am asking for Ringo's medical records and someone said they would email them to me. Which I have yet to receive.I went today and finally was able to purchase my dog's medicine but the staff was fairly friendly. I will no longer be doing business with Cass Vet, as much as it pains me because the veterinarian himself is excellent but I refuse to give higher than a 1 star. I will be seeking a new veterinarian in Springfield, IL so I can avoid this awful headache of a "business" or "clinic". 0/5 Would not EVER recommend.Goodbye Cass Veterinarian Services. I will never return, sincerely one pissed off dog mom.
August 27 · McKinsey Anders(Virginia, IL)Okay, NOW I’m even more upset. I called up to Cass County EMERGENCY Vet explaining that my cat, Typsy (Whom Cass has Hospitalized at the LEAST, 3x and have quite frankly, taken AMAZING care of him) was sick, VERY SICK, I’m talking - Urithral Blockage sick, (I know this because again, they have treated him at least 3x before for the same exact thing) & because I forgot about a $230 bill from the very last time he had to be hospitalized back in 2023, they refused to at least hospitalize him & allow me to pay them Tuesday. I spent ALL DAY calling places for help. left work early, completely distraught. I finally found someone kind enough to take care of the back due bill until I could pay her back Tuesday. This AMAZING lady called up to Cass County to take care of the outstanding bill, and they told her they still wouldn’t see my Typsy. They said that I purposely ignored them when they would reach out regarding the bill (which is absolutely false. I can guarantee you they don’t have the correct # on file. I’m not that kind of person. & I genuinely didn’t even think about the bill, from, again… 2023) the fact of the matter is, that this place is quite literally letting our cat die because of a bill that WAS ABOUT TO GET PAID BY A COMPLETE STRANGER FOR US. I will get my Typsys Truth out!
February 20 · Prosper ShawDr Zeller is a kind, thorough veterinarian . From our phone call, he and his team already had a good idea of what was wrong with our young male cat and treated him right away . Thank you Dr Zeller for seeing and treating our fur baby, Sir Sylvester Swiper
January 12 · Rachel FanningWe travel so it’s hard to find a vet at times. I called and talked to some very nice ladies. I explained my situation with my dogs teeth and they got me right in. They pulled and cleaned his teeth at an appointment and it all went well. They are about to do another one of my dogs teeth. They are not a fancy vets office so if thats what you like or need lots of attention this is not your place. lol😆 Quick to the point service and I love that!!
