---What truly sets the Cat Clinic of Central Illinois apart are the features that go beyond standard veterinary care. These highlights are a reflection of their commitment to compassionate, client-focused service and a dedication to the well-being of cats. A key highlight is their specialization in feline care, which means every aspect of the clinic is optimized for cats. The absence of dogs creates a calm and quiet environment, reducing the stress that many cats feel when visiting a vet. This is a huge benefit for nervous or anxious cats, as well as their owners.
Another significant highlight, as mentioned in customer reviews, is the staff's professionalism and knowledge. One client praised Dr. Carlson for being "the most honest vet guaranteed," highlighting her integrity and focus on the animal's well-being over profit. This review contrasts with a different, less positive experience, but it speaks to the importance of finding a vet whose approach aligns with your own values. The long-term client praised the clinic’s use of "the latest technology and equipment" and their reasonable pricing, noting that they always quote the price before doing any procedure, eliminating any surprises. This transparency in billing is a huge plus for many pet owners. Furthermore, the clinic offers a convenient drop-off service, which is a great option for busy pet owners who need to leave their cat for a short period. This flexibility, combined with home visits, showcases a commitment to making veterinary care as accessible and stress-free as possible.
These features, from specialized services and transparent pricing to convenient options like drop-off service and home visits, make the clinic a unique and valuable resource. It’s clear that they strive to make every interaction a positive one for both the cat and the owner. The positive feedback from long-term clients speaks volumes about the trust and confidence they have in the clinic's care.
---For cat owners in Illinois, the choice of a veterinary clinic is an important decision. The Cat Clinic of Central Illinois is worth choosing for several key reasons that go beyond the basic services. The most compelling reason is their unwavering dedication to feline-only care. A cat-exclusive environment is not just a marketing gimmick; it is a fundamental shift in how veterinary medicine is practiced. It means that the staff is trained to understand the subtle cues of cats, the equipment is designed for their size and needs, and the atmosphere is specifically crafted to reduce their stress. This specialization leads to more accurate diagnoses and more effective treatment plans, as the team is focused on a single species.
Furthermore, the clinic's commitment to honest, transparent care is a significant factor. A client's review praised a vet for suggesting an oral medication for an elderly cat instead of a risky surgical procedure, demonstrating a professional who prioritizes the animal's health over profit. This kind of ethical practice builds trust and loyalty, and it is a quality every pet owner seeks. The ability to trust your vet is paramount, especially when facing difficult decisions about your pet's health. The use of a treatment plan ensures that all steps are clearly laid out, giving pet owners a full understanding of the care their cat is receiving.
Ultimately, the Cat Clinic of Central Illinois is a standout choice because it combines deep expertise with genuine compassion. From the moment you bring your cat in, you can feel confident that they are in the hands of professionals who not only understand feline medicine but also truly care about their well-being. This is a place where your cat is seen not just as a patient, but as a cherished member of your family. Their focus on the whole experience, from the moment you call to the follow-up care, makes them a trusted partner in your cat's health for a lifetime.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Don’t seem to care at all. The vet acted like speaking to me was a burden and was extremely upset when I chose not to screen for communicable diseases for a cat who has behavioral issues in a home he’s been in with other cats for 2 years who are totally fine and never go outside. The chance of a communicable disease being the culprit was so incredibly low that I’m shocked she offered. The new vet was also shocked. She just didn’t care and didn’t want to do anything but charge me for stuff. We will not be returning.
April 10 · Emily NelsonI love Dr. Carlson and Cat Clinic of Central Illinois! I have been taking my two cats to her for about 5 years. Dr. Carlson is the most honest vet guaranteed!! She is very professional and knowledgable!! Unlike many others I have encountered as a lifelong cat lover, Dr. Carlson would never suggest a treatment just because of the profit. She always has the animal's well-being as a priority, which is felt in everything she does or says. So, for instance, when 2 other vets in the area wanted to put my senior cat to sleep in order to clean his teeth for $450, Dr. Carlson did not want to put an elderly cat to sleep as she thought it would be too risky because of his heart, so she prescribed some oral medication that worked great! She also always quotes the price before doing anything, so there are never any surprises. Her prices are very reasonable. Her office has the latest technology and equipment. Most of all, when you beloved animal is sick, she/he is in good hand with Dr. Carlson! I highly recommend Dr. Carlson.
September 14 · Ana Cekova StanicDr. Carlson is a kind and caring vet. When my kitty needed major surgery, she was able to find a hospital that was able to act quickly to resolve the issues. I have boarded my cat several times and my cat is always treated with the best care. I highly recommend the Cat Clinic.
January 24 · Susan GrubbI do not usually review anything but I wanted to say that Dr. Carlson and her staff have been fantastic. I went to three different places a few years ago when my 9 year old cat started losing weight and declining in health. None of the bloodwork showed anything abnormal and the best guess was some sort of IBD and another vet started her on steroids. No improvement for months and by the time I brought her to the clinic, she looked so sick and sad that I was terrified I was going to have to let her go. Dr. Carlson treated her exceptionally well and preformed a relatively new blood test that seemed to point to early-stage intestinal cancer. Not one of the other vets I saw preformed or even knew about this test and it saved my cats life. Dr. Carlson started her on chemo and years later, my 13 year old cat is cancer-free and looking forward to her healthy golden years. It should be noted that I have had disagreements with vets in the past and Dr. Carlson is no exception. However, being a vet is a hard and thankless job. Vets do not made piles of money, have their own bills and loans to pay, and frequently see horrible, heartbreaking situations on a daily basis. I can forgive a vet for being a bit terse and less than exuberantly friendly. I do not choose a vet by how friendly they are towards me- I choose them by how well they treat my pets and how good they are at their job. And Dr. Carlson is the *best* cat specialist I have found in the tri-state area and, though I have moved back to Chicago, I continue to make the drive every 6 months to have my cat seen by her.
January 09 · Anna CDon't come here if you want to be treated with respect and understanding.I don't like leaving bad reviews but I would hate for anyone else to feel the way I did today. Our cat had to have most of his teeth removed and we were told by Dr. Carlson that she wouldn't do the surgery and told us to go all the way to Decatur for his surgery. (Which would have been multiple 45 min. Trips) when she found out we had taken him somewhere else in town to get the surgery done she got angry and basically talked down to me and acted like I was letting just anyone operate on my cat even though I had several conversations with the dentist on staff about their equipment and the process for surgery and aftercare. I was made to feel bad for trying to get a second opinion and going to another vet for a very expensive dental surgery that Dr. Carlson refused to do. I'm sorry but last I checked getting a 2nd opinion and using all the resources available to us to make the best choice for my cat and our family was the responsible thing to do. My husband and I are young newlyweds and are tight on money so driving to Decatur multiple times seemed like a hard thing to do for 2 people who work full-time and have other pets who also have needs. We genuinely enjoyed our visits up to this point and think if Dr Carlson showed a little more empathy and understanding toward the owners/parents we wouldn't be changing vets.
