As a full-service animal hospital, Dogwood Animal Hospital, with Dr. Christine Faircloth as a managing DVM, offers a wide array of veterinary services primarily for dogs and cats. These services are designed to address various aspects of pet health, from preventive care to diagnostics and surgical interventions. The typical services provided at a facility of this nature include:
- General Wellness and Preventive Care: This foundational aspect of veterinary medicine includes routine physical examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations (such as rabies, distemper, parvovirus, feline leukemia), comprehensive parasite control (for fleas, ticks, and internal parasites), and nutritional counseling. The emphasis is on proactive health management to maintain well-being and prevent diseases.
- Diagnostic Services: To accurately identify underlying health issues, the hospital is equipped with in-house laboratory capabilities for essential blood work, urinalysis, and fecal examinations. They also utilize diagnostic imaging, such as digital radiography (X-rays), to visualize internal structures and aid in pinpointing medical conditions.
- Surgical Procedures: Common surgical services include routine spaying and neutering, which are crucial for population control and preventing certain health issues. The hospital also performs various soft tissue surgeries. Surgical procedures typically involve pre-anesthetic blood work, anesthesia monitoring, and post-operative pain management to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Dental Care: Professional dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing, are provided to maintain oral hygiene and prevent periodontal disease, which can impact a pet's overall health. Dental extractions may also be performed when necessary.
- Pain Management: Development and implementation of strategies for managing both acute and chronic pain, significantly improving a pet's quality of life, especially for older or ailing animals.
- Pharmacy Services: An on-site pharmacy provides convenient access to a range of necessary medications, including antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and long-term medications for chronic conditions.
- Microchipping: Offering microchip implantation services to provide a permanent form of identification, which is invaluable for reuniting lost pets with their families.
- Specialty Consultations and Referrals: While a general practice, they may offer initial consultations for more complex conditions like cardiology, dermatology, or oncology, and provide referrals to veterinary specialists when advanced care is required.
For any significant medical decisions or procedures, it is always recommended for pet owners to engage in thorough discussions with the veterinary team to ensure a complete understanding of the diagnosis, treatment plan, and associated costs, fostering informed consent and a strong partnership in their pet's care.

- Experienced Leadership: Dr. Christine Faircloth herself brings significant experience to the practice, having graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991 and joining Dogwood Animal Hospital (formerly Ponderosa Animal Clinic) in 1993. Her long tenure and special interest in medicine and surgery for dogs and cats contribute to the hospital's expertise.
- Long-Standing Community Presence: Dogwood Animal Hospital has been serving the Fayetteville community since 1985, indicating a deep root and established reputation within the local area. This longevity often suggests a consistent standard of care and familiarity with the needs of local pets.
- Dedicated and Friendly Front Desk Staff: Customer reviews frequently commend the support staff, particularly a "sweet lady that works the front desk" who has been there "forever." This consistent, caring front-line interaction can significantly enhance a client's comfort and experience, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both pets and their owners.

However, it is crucial for prospective and current clients to be aware of feedback that highlights areas for consideration. One detailed review expressed significant concerns regarding unclear communication from a male vet, perceived unnecessary and invasive procedures, and unexpectedly high costs for both treatments and routine vaccinations. This reviewer's experience suggested that their pet underwent prolonged suffering due to a lack of prescribed antibiotics and felt that procedures were driven by "greed" rather than necessity, leading to "astronomical" bills. The review also mentioned a shift in appointment scheduling that prevented access to preferred veterinarians and alleged "cruelty to animals" and "sadistic" behavior by some staff, alongside exorbitant quotes for spay/neuter services compared to other providers.
This mixed feedback underscores the importance of clear, empathetic communication regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and financial implications. While the hospital has dedicated, long-term staff and a range of services, pet owners should feel empowered to ask detailed questions and seek thorough explanations to ensure they are fully comfortable with the care plan for their beloved animals, and that all procedures are indeed necessary and transparently priced.

Christine Faircloth, DVM Reviews
This place is HORRIBLE!!! I can't even fully describe the extent to which this place put my pet in danger by treating her for something that they never should have even done....& they did two surgical procedures...& I asked if they could put her on antibiotics in the meantime because I was pretty sure I knew what it was, having talked to a friend who was a retired vet & some other individuals... They wouldn't!!! So a coupla thousand dollars later, my poor baby was still suffering & they kept insisting on more invasive procedures.... When all it ended up taking when I took her elsewhere was the antibiotics & 1.5 days for her to start being her old self! Meanwhile they put her through 2 weeks of pain & 2 risky procedures.... All completely unnecessary because of their greed!!! It makes me wonder how many other times we allowed them to do procedures on our pets because they knew how much we absolutely loved & adored them.... Sssoooo our bills always ended up being astronomical!!! They'd alwayz find something! I still remember walking out of their offices after just getting shots for three dogs....& not even the 3 year vaccines....& it ended up costing seven hundred and something dollars just for partial shots!!! YES REALLY!!!! But after we got antibiotics for our dog from another vet & she recovered so fast...& they had wanted to do more invasive procedures... It was the VERY LAST STRAW FOR US!!! I don't mind paying for good care if it is good necessary care!!! So I sent my husband in to pick up all our babies' records... I don't suffer liars well....& greed ticks me off.... Itz no wonder we have over 12,000 animals put down by animal control in this county every year; people can't afford to get their pets fixed... We had a quote of $1000-1500 to get one of our baby's fixed.... And if it would've followed the pattern they prolly would've charged $3000.... Itz all just complete insanity!!! One thing I must say tho.... There is a sweet lady that works the front desk.... She's been there forever... We loved her and she she was really awesome with our babies, but at some point they started refusing to give us appointments with her! They started scheduling appointments with some male vet....& he is the one who would run our bill up & cause unneeded pain to our babies by doing unnecessary procedures! That almost seems sadistic to me on top of greedy!!! Yeah, needless to say, after YEARS w/Dogwood....& recommending them to everyone we knew.... We are now doing the opposite....& getting the people we got to go there to switch to new vets....& steer everyone else away from them!!!! I hate cruelty to animals & some of these people definitely are!!!
