Companion Animal Dentistry Introduce
For pet owners in Kansas who are seeking specialized, high-level expertise for their animal's oral health, Companion Animal Dentistry in Overland Park is the premier destination. Unlike general veterinary clinics, this practice is a dedicated specialty center focused exclusively on advanced Veterinary Dentistry and oral surgery. Led by board-certified veterinary dentists, a designation held by fewer than 300 professionals nationwide, the clinic offers a level of skill, equipment, and focus that is often unavailable at primary care facilities. This specialization is vital because dental and oral health issues, such as abscesses and periodontal disease, are not just painful—they can lead to severe secondary health issues affecting the sinuses, heart, liver, and kidneys, as many local pet parents have unfortunately learned.
The core of their service is the expert diagnosis and treatment of complex dental diseases in pets, including dogs, cats (Feline Dentistry), and even Exotic Animal Dentistry. Clients frequently praise the team’s meticulous approach, which begins with comprehensive Initial Consultations and advanced Imaging Services, including high-resolution Dental Radiographs, to form a precise treatment plan. This expertise ensures that pets requiring procedures beyond routine cleanings, such as complicated tooth extractions or corrective surgery, are in the safest, most capable hands in the Kansas City metro area.
The reviews from local users emphasize the compassionate, supportive, and highly professional care delivered by the doctors and technicians. Pet owners, even those who have traveled from out of state due to a specialist referral, consistently note that the team’s kindness and dedication significantly reduce the stress associated with complex procedures. From detailed updates via text and photos during surgery to personal follow-up calls from the doctors, the commitment to exceptional client service matches their commitment to advanced Animal Medical and surgical care. For Kansans, this practice represents the pinnacle of specialized pet dental health.

- A clean and accessible Restroom is available for client comfort.
Due to the specialized nature of the procedures, which often involve extensive planning and anesthetic protocols, Appointments recommended is a key directive. - Board-Certified Expertise: The presence of multiple board-certified veterinary dentists (DVM, DAVDC) ensures that the highest standard of specialized care is consistently provided, particularly for complex procedures like Maxillofacial Surgery.
- State-of-the-Art Equipment: They utilize highly specialized dental equipment and Imaging Services, including digital X-ray capabilities, that often exceed those available at general practices, ensuring the most accurate diagnosis and treatment.
- Unmatched Anesthesia and Pain Management: Given that all major Dental Procedures require general anesthesia, the clinic’s expertise in developing customized anesthetic plans for geriatric or high-risk pets, coupled with rigorous Pain Management, is a critical feature.
- Focus on Saving Teeth: Unlike general practices that may only offer extraction, this specialty center provides advanced restorative options like Root Canals (Endodontic Therapy) and Prosthodontics to save important or functional teeth.
- Exceptional Communication Protocol: The staff maintains constant, detailed communication with owners before, during, and after surgery, including follow-up calls (even on weekends) to ensure a smooth recovery.

The compassionate and thorough care, which includes advanced Pain Management and detailed client communication, ensures that even the most stressful procedures, like those for older, high-risk pets, are handled with the utmost care and professionalism. For those who understand that excellent oral health is foundational to their pet's overall well-being and longevity, trusting their animal to one of the few specialty practices in the country—located right in Overland Park—is the clear choice. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- I waited to put a review on here until after our post dental surgery visit and recovery so I could give a fair and comprehensive review. From start to finish, they were really amazing! We have two chihuahuas who are 11 & 12 years old. They’ve never had their teeth cleaned bc we were always fearful of anesthesia on small dogs especially for an “unnecessary” procedure. But one of our dogs had all kinds of health issues that were the result of a tooth abscess which formed fistula into her sinuses. It was awful and she was in such pain and very sick. (We feel like terrible dog parents for thinking we were protecting them, but ending up with pain for them!) Once we got her healthy enough and were able to get our consult with Companion, we knew we had the right people and the right plan to take care of both dogs on the same surgery day. The second dog had bad teeth, but not the secondary issues. They took amazing care of both dogs and updated us throughout the day with details via text and photos. They checked on us the following day and were incredibly responsive when we had questions or concerns. The dogs had their 2 week follow up visits yesterday and are doing excellent!! We are incredibly pleased and grateful!! For cost - it was expensive, but not expensive for the skill, equipment, personnel and expertise….for that level of care, it was very reasonable! They have equipment and expertise that our regulated vet (although a very good vet who we love and appreciate) just doesn’t have to take care of the dogs in the way they needed. August 20 · Sar Han
- I couldn’t be more grateful for the exceptional care we received at Companion Animal Dentistry. I traveled from out of state for my dog’s rostral mandibulectomy, as my family vet had previously worked with Dr. MacGee and spoke highly of his expertise. Given the complexity of the procedure, I wanted to ensure my pup was in the best hands — and he absolutely was. From the front desk to the technicians and doctors, every staff member we encountered was kind, helpful, and incredibly supportive. Their compassion and professionalism made a stressful situation so much more manageable. We’re now back home, and my pup is on the road to recovery. I was especially touched when Dr. MacGee personally reached out the day after surgery — on a Saturday — to check in and see how he was doing.I would wholeheartedly recommend Companion Animal Dentistry to anyone seeking expert, compassionate care for their pet. - Great care. The tech and Dr. Goodman are very compassionate people. Very patient and through with answering g all my questions. I felt they sent me home well prepared for coping with my cars condition. July 31 · Terry Grabb
- They’ve taken such great care of my girls. Lola (fluffy one) had some unknown cause reaction while under anesthesia and they immediately alerted me. The practice manager kept me on the phone while they helped her recover and I got a call as soon as she woke up. Dr. Crowder called shortly after to tell me everything detail of what happened and what they did treatment wise. Neither bloodwork, an exam by Dr. Crowder, and an exam by our normal DVM hinted about any issues that Lola might have. The team at Companion Animal Dentistry provide the gold level of medicine and show how much each patient means to them. As an industry professional myself, I can’t begin to explain how impressive and meaningful this experience has been. Thank you from Lola and Eggy! July 24 · Ally Allen
- Our 15 year old kitty has suffered from feline stomatitis for many years. Two surgeries eliminated every tooth from her mouth, but inflammation, swelling, and pain have persisted and as anyone who has a stomatitis pet knows, the flareups are cyclical and difficult to treat. On top of that, she's pre-diabetic, thanks to the meds she's had along the way. We have a regular vet that we love, but teaming up with Companion Animal Dentistry has been life-changing. The doctors here have in-depth understanding of the root causes, treatments, and complications. I ask a lot of questions and Dr. Goodman is so patient with me. She listens and hears my concerns, helps me understand each time we adjust the med plan, and is just very good at what she does.I mean, look at this happy cat! She loves visiting and was happy to hang out and purr while chillin' on the scales in the gorgeous and exceptionally clean exam room. You can see her scarred face and broken whiskers, from digging at her mouth. But thanks to Companion, she continues to do well. I'm so grateful to the doctors and staff for all they've done for our family. Don't think of it as cheating on your vet - you're adding a specialist with excellent training and experience! You won't regret it! Companion is phenomenal. November 18 · Melanie Haas
