CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets specializes exclusively in veterinary cardiology, offering a comprehensive suite of diagnostic and treatment services focused on the heart and circulatory system of dogs and cats. Their services are designed to provide precise diagnoses and tailored care plans for a wide range of cardiac conditions.
Services Offered:
- Initial Consultations & Comprehensive Cardiac Workup: Every initial visit includes a thorough physical examination, a detailed review and interpretation of the pet's medical history, radiographs (X-rays), and lab work provided by the referring veterinarian. This foundational assessment helps in understanding the full clinical picture.
- Echocardiography: This is a cornerstone diagnostic tool. CVCA utilizes top-of-the-line Philips pediatric echocardiography units (geared for higher heart rates of pets) to perform highly accurate, non-invasive ultrasound examinations of the heart. This allows them to visualize the heart's structure, function, blood flow patterns, and assess issues like chamber size, wall thickness, valve abnormalities, and blood clots. Owners are often able to accompany their pets during this procedure.
- Electrocardiography (ECG/EKG): Evaluation of the heart's electrical activity to diagnose arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), conduction disturbances, and assess heart rate.
- Holter Monitoring (24-hour ECG): For comprehensive assessment of heart rhythm and rate over an extended period (typically 24 hours) during a pet's normal daily activities, particularly useful for intermittent arrhythmias.
- Blood Pressure Measurement: Essential for assessing systemic hypertension (high blood pressure) and its impact on the cardiovascular system.
- Pericardiocentesis: A procedure to remove fluid from the sac around the heart (pericardial effusion), often performed as an emergency to relieve pressure on the heart.
- Therapeutic Options & Management Plans: Developing personalized treatment strategies which may include medication management for conditions like congestive heart failure, dietary recommendations, activity level adjustments, and anesthesia risk management.
- Consultation for Congenital Heart Disease: Diagnosis and management of heart defects present from birth.
- Management of Degenerative Valve Disease: Long-term care plans for common conditions like mitral valve disease.
- Follow-up Care & Communication with Primary Veterinarian: CVCA emphasizes co-management with the pet's primary care veterinarian, ensuring seamless and continuous care, with prompt communication of all findings and treatment plans.
- Access to Clinical Trials: Opportunities for eligible patients to participate in cutting-edge cardiac drug trials and research, offering access to innovative, new treatments.

CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets Reviews
No one wants to have to take their beloved pet to the cardiologist, but I felt like my kitty and I were in great care here.Dr. Rachel Van Zile treated us with the upmost patience and gentle demeanor. We left confidently with a care plan and the office quickly sent all documents to our primary care veterinarian on the same day!
Jun 27, 2025 · MelissaI brought my dog to CVCA after our general vet detected a new heart murmur. They were able to get me in within 2 days of receiving the referral, which was such a relief to be able to get answers quickly about my dog’s health. I cannot compliment Dr. Sharpe enough. She was thorough yet compassionate and took the time to help me understand exactly what was going on with my dog and let me ask allll the questions. We are thankful for the care they provided us and would recommend them to anyone!
Jul 03, 2025 · Erin PescaroWe, unfortunately, did not come away with a clean bill of health like I had hoped but the staff and Dr were amazing. My sweet Max loved all of them and only wanted them to know he had claws once when he lost patience. I look forward for a very long relationship with them as we navigate Max’s health
Mar 22, 2025 · Dolly HelbertWe were referred to CVCA from our vet after she discovered a new heart murmur on our 8 yo Maltese Katie. We were contacted that day and able to get an appt within a week. From the initial contact, the staff was communicative and helpful. I’m sure they deal with parents who are nervous and anxious and they showed compassion and extreme care for our girl. They were gentle with her but also with us and it was most appreciated. I highly recommend this office to anyone needing a pet cardiologist. Additionally, they emailed to check on our girl today since it’s been a week on her new meds. How cool is that!!
Jan 17, 2025 · Joann RauschWhat a super place. Easy to make appointment. Doctor was informative. Cost was responsible for the test they did. My dog did not come back traumatized. The place was very clean. I can't say enough.
