They have experience with issues like parasites, crop impactions, bumblefoot, and egg binding.
- Reptiles: Care for various reptiles, including lizards and potentially tortoises, as mentioned by a client.

- Unique Expertise in Poultry and Exotic Pets: A significant highlight is their willingness and demonstrated capability to treat poultry (ducks, goslings, chickens) and other exotic pets like Chinese water dragons. This fills a crucial gap in veterinary care, as many clinics primarily focus on cats and dogs.
- Knowledgeable and Compassionate Staff: Clients consistently praise the entire staff for being "very knowledgeable, compassionate, attentive, and accommodating." This fosters a trusting and comfortable environment, especially vital when pets are ill or owners are concerned.
- Commitment to Client Education: One reviewer specifically mentioned the veterinarian showing them "step by step how to administer an injection" for home care due to the travel distance. This demonstrates a strong commitment to empowering pet owners with the knowledge and skills to care for their animals effectively.
- Accommodating for Distant Clients: The willingness to provide detailed home care instructions for those who travel a "long trip" underscores their accommodating nature and desire to ensure all pets receive necessary follow-up care, regardless of geographical distance.
- Positive Experience for Diverse Pet Types: The fact that both poultry owners and exotic pet owners (like those with Chinese water dragons) have positive experiences highlights their versatility and consistent quality of care across different species.
While one review mentioned a minor scheduling confusion regarding a specific doctor's photo for a service dog, the overall sentiment points to high satisfaction with the clinic's care and professionalism.

Essex Veterinary Center Reviews
The only place around that would see poultry. I've brought a duck and 2 goslings here and, even though it's a long trip, it's well worth it. The staff are very knowledgeable, compassionate, attentive, and accommodating - because of how far away I live, the veterinarian showed me step by step how to administer an injection so that I could provide care at home. I highly recommend Essex Veterinary Center for anyone who is able to make it to them.
Jun 28, 2025 · Chris SankeySomeone for your web site needs to change Dr. Smets photo, as scheduling online caused some confusion. I don't wish to exposed my son's service dog to too many people. I feel the last couple of times it has been switched up. I explained this on our first visit over two years ago.I do like this vet office, we started coming here year's ago with our Chinese water dragon.
