If I could leave no stars, I would. I had an appointment at 230p and live only 12 blocks from their office. I made two appointments— onefor each cat. I would’ve become a new client. My one cat needed a follow-up appointment because he just had surgery at an urgent care center and I was instructed to get the wound checked by a vet within a week. I was desperately trying to get there, but for some reason my Lyft driver was sitting on 68th street and not 69th street. At the same time I received a call from Feline Health telling me that if I didn’t show up by exactly 245p that my appointment would be cancelled. I said that it was very important that my cat receive follow-up care and asked if I turned up at 246p would I be turned away. She said yes. Meanwhile, the day before she told me to call if I was running late and they would do their best to accommodate me:Well, if this was their best, I’d hate to see them at their worst. The admin was rude and wouldn’t listen to reason.I am so happy that I did not become a client of this place. Apparently, they couldn’t care less about my cat and his emergent condition. All they care about is money. Stay away from this place and find a vet who cares about your pets and understands that it is very complicated transporting pets in NYC in the rain.I will tell all of my friends who are cat parents to not choose this place. There are plenty of other vets in NYC who actually would care about your pet w a complicated condition . This vet doesn’t care!Below are pics of my cat’s surgery. I think it’s understandable why I would be upset that I could not get a follow-up visit ! - Maria Coler

Feline Health Introduce

For devoted cat parents living in the bustling metropolis of New York City, finding specialized veterinary care that truly understands the unique needs and sensitivities of felines is paramount. Cats, with their often subtle signs of illness and preference for calm environments, thrive in practices designed specifically for them. This is precisely what Feline Health offers to the New York cat-owning community. Located on the Upper East Side, Feline Health is a veterinary clinic dedicated exclusively to cats, providing a serene, stress-free environment coupled with expert medical attention. This article will explore the unique aspects of Feline Health, highlighting why it stands out as an ideal choice for your beloved feline companion in NYC.

Choosing a veterinarian for your cat is a deeply personal decision. You want a team that not only possesses exceptional medical expertise but also embodies genuine empathy and a profound understanding of feline behavior. Feline Health, with its long history (opened in 1979 and at its current location since 1989), has been a pioneer in cat-only veterinary care in New York. Under the leadership of Dr. Cori Blair, who took over the practice in 2021 after years as an associate, the clinic continues its legacy of providing compassionate, comprehensive care tailored specifically to cats. This specialization means a calmer environment without the presence of dogs, reducing stress for anxious felines, and a staff whose entire focus is on understanding and treating the unique health needs of cats.

The philosophy at Feline Health is centered on making veterinary visits as gentle and reassuring as possible for cats, while providing pet owners with all the information and support they need. As one grateful client put it, the team helped them, as a first-time cat owner, feel informed and reassured that they were "doing best." This blend of professional expertise and heartfelt understanding creates a comforting and supportive experience, crucial for both pet and owner, especially when navigating complex health conditions or routine check-ups in a busy city.

Feline Health is located at 1533 1st Ave, New York, NY 10028, USA. This prime Upper East Side location makes it highly accessible for cat owners residing in Manhattan, particularly those in the surrounding neighborhoods. The clinic is situated on the northwest corner of 80th and 1st, specifically on the promenade (substreet level) of the East Winds Building, with the entrance to the ramp midway between 80th and 81st Street on 1st Avenue.

For New Yorkers, navigating the city with a pet, especially a cat that may be stressed by travel, can be challenging. The clinic's central Upper East Side location offers convenience for those living nearby, allowing for shorter travel times which can significantly reduce anxiety for sensitive felines. While parking in Manhattan can always be a consideration, being on a major avenue provides various transportation options, including taxis, ride-shares, and proximity to public transport routes (though specific subway or bus lines would require checking. However, the direct address ensures it's easily locatable for navigation apps). The benefit of a neighborhood-embedded location means it's a familiar and established part of the community for many Upper East Side residents, making it a reliable choice for ongoing cat care.

As a feline-only veterinary practice, Feline Health specializes in a comprehensive range of services tailored specifically to the unique physiology and behavioral needs of cats. This specialization ensures that your cat receives the most appropriate and effective care.

  • Wellness & Preventive Care: This includes thorough physical examinations, individualized vaccination protocols (based on your cat's lifestyle and risk factors), and comprehensive parasite prevention (for fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites). Nail trims are even included with every exam!
  • Diagnostic Services: The clinic is equipped to perform various diagnostic tests, including in-house laboratory services for blood work, urinalysis, and fecal analysis, to quickly and accurately diagnose feline health issues. They also offer imaging services as needed.
  • Dentistry: Comprehensive feline dental care is provided, including professional cleanings, polishing, and extractions when necessary, to prevent periodontal disease and maintain overall oral health crucial for systemic well-being.
  • Geriatric Care: Specialized care for senior cats, focusing on managing age-related conditions, pain management, and maintaining the best possible quality of life through tailored wellness plans and regular monitoring.
  • Comprehensive Pain Management: Recognizing that cats often hide pain, Feline Health offers various strategies for effective pain management for both acute and chronic conditions, ensuring your cat's comfort.
  • Surgery: While specific surgical capabilities are not detailed, a full-service veterinary facility typically offers a range of common soft tissue surgeries, such as spaying, neutering, and tumor removals, performed with meticulous care.
  • Nutritional Counseling: Expert guidance on appropriate diets, weight management, and specific nutritional needs for cats at all life stages or with particular medical conditions, including prescription diets.
  • Microchipping: A vital service for permanent identification, significantly increasing the chances of reuniting lost cats with their families, offering invaluable peace of mind.

Feline Health distinguishes itself through several unique features and highlights that are particularly appealing to New York cat owners.

  • Cat-Only Environment: This is arguably their most significant highlight. The absence of dogs creates a significantly less stressful and calmer environment for cats, who are often anxious in mixed-animal veterinary settings. This specialized atmosphere contributes to a more positive experience for the feline patients.
  • Compassionate and Kind Team (Dr. Blair and Her Team): Reviewers consistently praise Dr. Blair and her team for being "very kind," "compassionate," and going above and beyond to provide reassurance. One reviewer, a first-time cat owner, specifically noted how Dr. Blair was "very kind and reminded me I’m doing my best," indicating a supportive and understanding approach.
  • Thorough and Informative Care: Despite one negative review regarding administrative issues, other feedback highlights Dr. Blair and her team's dedication to being "thorough" and "inform me of everything I needed to know." This commitment to education helps pet owners make informed decisions.
  • Beautiful and Cat-Friendly Office: The office itself is described as "absolutely beautiful and so cute. Perfect for cat lovers." A welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environment tailored for cats enhances the overall experience and comfort.
  • Understanding of Anxious Cats: The team is noted for being able to handle "not well behaved" cats with patience and skill, demonstrating their expertise in feline behavior and handling, which is crucial for urban cats who may be less accustomed to outdoor experiences.
  • Legacy of Specialized Care: Having opened in 1979, Feline Health has a long-standing history as one of the specialized feline veterinary practices, showcasing deep institutional knowledge and commitment to cat health.
