Being part of the Humane Society of Catawba County's network, Foothills Animal Health Center is strategically placed to serve a wide segment of the population that seeks affordable and essential pet health services. While the focus on low-cost services means certain operational procedures (like specific prescription policies) might differ from full-service private practices, its accessibility allows more pet owners to provide their animals with crucial preventive care. The clinic's hours and appointment system, often involving online scheduling or calls, contribute to its structured and accessible nature for the community.
Foothills Animal Health Center, as an extension of the Humane Society of Catawba County, focuses on providing essential and affordable veterinary services to promote responsible pet ownership and population control. Their primary services include:
- Spay/Neuter Services: A core offering for dogs, cats, and rabbits, available at low costs to help control pet overpopulation. These are same-day procedures.
- Vaccine Clinics: Offering low-cost routine vaccinations and testing (e.g., Heartworm Test, Felv/FIV Test, Rabies, Feline Distemper, Canine Distemper/Parvo) during select weekday hours. These are quick appointments not intended as full annual exams.
- Annual Physical Exams: Comprehensive physical examinations for dogs and cats for a low fee ($35 for many pets), which are essential for overall health assessment and are required to purchase certain medications like flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
- Beginning Puppy & Kitten Packages: All-inclusive packages for young animals (2-6 months old) that cover age-appropriate vaccinations, testing, microchipping, and spay/neuter surgery.
- Microchipping: Available during vaccine clinic appointments for permanent identification.
- Nail Trims: Offered during vaccine clinic appointments.
- Dewormer: Available for purchase (weight-dependent).
- Flea/Tick and Heartworm Prevention: Available for purchase, requiring a current annual exam with an FAHC veterinarian.
- Routine Blood Work and Additional Testing: Available upon request during annual exams (e.g., blood work for animals 6+ years for $100).
It is important to note that while they offer comprehensive basic care, for complex medical issues or emergencies outside of their scope or hours, pet owners might need to seek a full-service private veterinary hospital.

Foothills Animal Health Center Reviews
I hate starting out in a bad note, but Madison is the worst. Just going to be point blank about it: Rude and completely unhelpful.I got both my dogs’ annuals and vax in July of last year from Foothills because the Gastonia clinic, where I live, was booked solid for months. Some of the doses of my dogs’ expensive flea & tick trio got wet in our closet. My dogs are due in July for their next round of heartworm tests and physical exam.I just put in an order for a 6-month supply through a website as it’s cheaper to buy the 6-month pack as opposed to individual doses. Three months a piece — May, June, July. Being tight on money, that made sense to me so I could give my dogs enough to get me to their next annual appt in July.Well, there’s either individual doses, 6-month supply, or a year. Foothills denied the 6-month supply order.Called confused, and after playing phone tag, I finally spoke with Madison. Well, Madison said it’s because on paper, it looks like my one dog has a 6-month prescription when legally, she’s supposed to only have 3 until her next yearly. So I asked if I could just get her in for an annual, and then get my other dog in in July (when they are actually due), so that I could just order the 6-month supply now. Madison says no. I asked why, because if the issue is legally it not looking like one dog had 6 months when they can only have 3, then that solution should suffice legal purposes.Apparently, that puts Madison in a moral dilemma because Madison knows I have two dogs, not one, so now it’s a moral obligation set forth by the clinic to not allow that to happen. I’d have to get both dogs in early, pay more for 6 single doses instead of a 6-month pack, get a new vet, or let my dog go without flea and tick meds for 3 months.I know people hate their jobs, but as someone who was in emergency veterinary for 7 years, works in the legal field now, and takes good care of my dogs to make sure they are vaxed, flea/tick treated, etc…. Do better or find a new career. This was hands-down the worst vet experience ever. I am now in a financial predicament deciding whether to get both dogs in early or try to find a new vet that will fill the prescription without having to pay a ton for another annual 3 months early. To me, that seems opposite of what Humane Society stands for, but I guess I’m wrong, according to Madison.
May 21, 2025 · Jessica Beck1st time using humane society (this is one of their offices) and I was very pleased. Professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and best pricing available! Wish I knew about them for puppy shots but I already had that done and had them neuter my pup.
Dec 19, 2024 · Cameron R HigdonI recommend these folks for your pet needs. Discount prices, but not discount service. So friendly and helpful.
Jun 15, 2025 · Tim TrimbleThe staff were courtesy and efficient for the neuter appointment. I love the drop off/drive thru setup because it feels safer for the pets as opposed to everyone being in the lobby at one time. The parking for check in/check out is across the street.
Jul 16, 2024 · JessI can't say enough great things about this facility. The people are absolutely amazing and helpful. Anything you need done for your pet from vaccinations to spay/neuter, they are right on it. And always with a smile on their face. What a wonderful addition to our community ❤️
