Foothills Spay Clinic focuses primarily on providing high-quality, affordable sterilization procedures for cats and dogs. Their streamlined approach allows them to offer these essential services at a lower cost than many full-service veterinary hospitals. While they specialize in spay and neuter surgeries, their services generally encompass the necessary components for a safe procedure.
- Spay (Ovariohysterectomy) for Female Cats and Dogs: This surgical procedure involves the removal of the ovaries and uterus, preventing pregnancy and reducing the risk of mammary tumors and uterine infections.
- Neuter (Orchiectomy) for Male Cats and Dogs: This surgical procedure involves the removal of the testicles, preventing reproduction and reducing the risk of certain prostate issues and testicular cancer.
- Pre-Surgical Examination: A basic health check is typically performed on the day of surgery to ensure the pet is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia and the procedure.
- Anesthesia: Pets are administered anesthesia for a pain-free and stress-free surgical experience. Monitoring during anesthesia is standard practice in veterinary surgery.
- Surgical Procedure: The actual spay or neuter surgery is performed by qualified veterinary professionals.
- Post-Operative Care Instructions: Owners are provided with clear instructions for caring for their pet during the recovery period at home, including information on wound care and activity restrictions.
- Pain Management (typically included): Although specific details are not provided, pain medication is generally administered to ensure the pet's comfort during and after the surgical procedure.
It is important for pet owners utilizing specialized, high-volume clinics to understand that while the core surgical service is the focus, comprehensive pre-surgical blood work, extensive monitoring, or post-operative rechecks beyond basic instruction may sometimes be offered as optional add-ons or may require follow-up with a full-service veterinarian if complications arise.
Foothills Spay Clinic is known for its focus on providing accessible and affordable spay and neuter services, a crucial aspect of pet welfare in North Carolina. Based on customer feedback, here are some key features and highlights:
- Affordable Cost: The most significant highlight mentioned by customers is the "cost being so much lower than all other vets." This affordability makes essential sterilization procedures accessible to a wider range of pet owners, which is vital for community pet population control.
- Fast and Friendly Process: Clients appreciate that "The whole process is fast and friendly," indicating an efficient and welcoming experience for pet owners.
- Dedicated to Sterilization: The clinic's primary focus on spay and neuter surgeries allows them to streamline their procedures and potentially offer services more quickly and at a lower price point compared to full-service hospitals.
However, it is also important to acknowledge concerns raised in customer reviews to provide a balanced perspective, as pet owners often consider all factors:
- Post-Surgical Monitoring and Stitching Concerns: One long-term customer noted instances where stitches "busted a stitcher or 2" or even "busted every last stitcher within 2 days," leading to concerns about the stitching method ("only 2 knots were done"). While this specific pet healed with "a lot of care and attention," it highlights the importance of vigilant post-operative monitoring by owners. This particular feedback suggests that while the cost is low, owners should be prepared to closely monitor surgical sites.
- Critical Incident and Communication Concerns: A very serious review detailed a tragic incident involving a cat that escaped, was missing, and subsequently suffered a severe medical event after being found and before its planned surgery. This account raises significant concerns about animal handling, clinic protocols, communication, and the care of animals on site, particularly strays or those awaiting procedures. This customer's experience led to a strong caution against using the clinic ("go there through at your own risk but I will never ever again").
It's essential for potential clients to weigh the benefits of affordability against these highlighted concerns, and possibly inquire about specific post-operative care instructions and protocols for animal safety and monitoring during their visit.

The primary appeal of Foothills Spay Clinic lies in its commitment to low-cost services, making pet population control more attainable for a wider segment of the community.

However, based on the provided customer feedback, it is also important for local pet owners to approach with a clear understanding of the clinic's specific operational model. Foothills Spay Clinic Reviews
The whole process is fast and friendly. I've taken 4 cats there 2 spays & 2 neuters. I don't know for sure but I have always figured with the cost being so much lower than all other vets that Foothills might be a training facility. The 2 males and 1 of the females busted a stitcher or 2 but still stayed stitched together. My most recent female busted every last stitcher within 2 days. By the looks of it only 2 knots were done. One at the top and one at the bottom having it not even tightly done. So if one busted the whole stitcher could be pulled right through. She healed up just fine with a lot of care and attention. I will still continue taking my pets there I would just encourage u to take a little time to look at their work before u drive off.
Jun 08, 2025 · Noel ChaseWent through mercy fund to get my girl cat fixed. The day of arrival she got out of the crate. I called mercy to ask why they didn’t look harder for her or put traps out and it was because of the clinic saying they couldn’t because of the strays that stay there, I went and put one of her blankets out so maybe the smell would lure her back. She was missing for about 2 weeks. And they found her yesterday and said that they were gonna fix her and then I can pick her up the next afternoon. I get a message in the morning, saying that she had a seizure so bad that she paralyzed herself from her legs to her neck. They found her in the garage that they have on their property that I’m guessing they drop the cats off at. Now she is deceased and had to be Euthanized they did not charge me for the euthanize, but I will never ever bring an animal back here. the picture I got of her when they found her was pitiful. Someone along, the lines was reckless and I blame this place for not letting Mercy do their job and look for her before it was too late. I am heartbroken because she suffered so bad she had a seizure and paralyzed herself, and they were still gonna fix her before she had the seizure from what I was told bc I agreed they could but if I knew that’s was how she looked I would’ve just taken her home to the animal hospital. They were nice for the most part about it, but something does not sit right with me. Were they even looking or were they just hoping she did appear all I can say is go there through at your own risk but I will never ever again. Here’s an after picture comparison to how she looked before she was sent, it’s heartbreaking. She had kittens too she was taken from.
Jun 26, 2024 · Elise PruittI don’t live near here, but I have seen just today on Facebook three different horror stories about people’s pets either dying or needing thousands of dollars in aftercare treatment from this place fixing their pets! PLEASE DONT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE! They will end up DEAD or at the emergency vet! Clearly these “vets” don’t know what they are doing and this place needs to be SHUT down!
May 22, 2025 · Jackie B.Never going back. We had to go the the emergency vet within 1h after bringing our cat home from neutering. They said the surgery went great. I guess that is a standard phrase they use regardless of outcomes. They did not explain anything to my mom. They did a very sloppy job. We could have lost him.
Oct 05, 2023 · Diana DamaschinThey called and said she'd be ready for pick up at 1pm and i had to wait 45 minutes for them to bring her out. Pro tip: you can walk in and get your animal you don't have to wait in the line. I figured that out too late but you don't have to
