We called to arrange for our cat (a patient there) to be sent over the rainbow bridge. This was of course very emotional. The mean woman who answered the phone said they couldn't do it for at least 2 weeks. When she asked questions about her history, she said that since she hadn't been brought in for anything in a couple of years (We tried, but they would never have time for emergencies within a 2 or more week period) she would go to the "bottom of their list", and she was extremely snarky about it. This upset my husband and he was at a loss for words as to why someone would be that way when we were calling for such a sensitive procedure. She then became hostile and yelled at him because she "detected sarcasm" in his voice and made herself into a victim. At that point, out of frustration, I loudly voiced what I thought of her and she slammed the phone down in his face. All we wanted was a gentle end to our kitty's struggle with cancer. The sad thing is that the doctor there is really wonderful, if you can get past the old guard at the front desk. It's crazy that someone like that is in a position to deal with people who are bringing their beloved pets there for loving care. We brought the incident up to some people at an unrelated business and they all knew exactly who we were talking about and they had similar experiences in and even outside of the clinic.Luckily, another clinic not far away has been wonderful at finding time within a day or so to see her, and she crossed the bridge surrounded by love and positivity. - Rox E.

Forestville Animal Hospital Introduce

For pet owners living in the New York region, especially in the quaint village of Forestville and its surrounding areas, finding the right veterinary care for our beloved animal companions is a significant decision. We all hope for a practice that offers not only medical expertise but also genuine empathy and understanding, particularly during sensitive times. Forestville Animal Hospital serves the local community, and this article aims to provide an objective overview of what local users might expect when seeking veterinary care here, drawing from available public information and customer experiences.

Forestville Animal Hospital operates as a local veterinary clinic serving the Forestville community in New York. Like many animal hospitals, its primary goal is to provide medical care for pets, ranging from routine check-ups to addressing more complex health issues. The hospital aims to be a reliable resource for pet owners in the area, offering services to maintain the health and well-being of animals. While one review highlights a very positive experience with a specific doctor, Dr. Bache, particularly in diagnosing a long-standing issue, another review describes a significantly negative experience with front office staff, particularly concerning a sensitive end-of-life situation for a pet. This suggests that while the medical professionals may be highly skilled, the overall client experience can vary. A well-run animal hospital typically strives to create a supportive environment for both pets and their owners, and understanding the nuances of client interactions is part of assessing suitability for local needs.

Forestville Animal Hospital is located at 27 Main St, Forestville, NY 14062, USA. This address places the clinic prominently on Main Street within the village of Forestville, a central and easily identifiable location. Forestville is a small village in Chautauqua County, New York, which means that the animal hospital serves not only the immediate residents of Forestville but also those from surrounding rural areas and smaller towns in the county. Being on Main Street generally implies good visibility and straightforward access for those traveling by car. Parking in such village settings is typically less challenging than in larger urban centers, which is a considerable advantage when transporting a pet, especially one that might be unwell or anxious. The clinic's local positioning makes it a convenient option for residents in this part of New York State who require veterinary services without having to travel long distances to larger towns or cities. This local accessibility is crucial for both routine appointments and urgent care needs within the community.

While specific detailed lists of services directly from Forestville Animal Hospital's own public statements are not provided in the prompt, a general animal hospital serving a community typically offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services to cater to the diverse health needs of small animal companions. Based on common practices for similar facilities and the nature of the reviews provided, the services likely include:

  • Preventive and Wellness Care: Routine physical examinations, customized vaccination programs, comprehensive parasite control (including prevention for fleas, ticks, and heartworm), and nutritional guidance to maintain overall health and prevent common diseases.
  • Diagnostic Services: This would typically involve in-house laboratory testing (such as blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams) and possibly external laboratory referrals for more specialized diagnostics. Imaging services like digital radiography (X-rays) are commonly available to aid in accurate diagnoses, as suggested by the successful diagnosis of Cushing's disease.
  • Internal Medicine: Diagnosis and management of a wide array of non-surgical conditions affecting various organ systems, including gastrointestinal disorders, dermatological issues, and endocrine diseases like Cushing's, as well as chronic conditions in senior pets.
  • Surgical Procedures: Performing common surgical interventions, such as spaying and neutering, soft tissue surgeries (e.g., mass removals), with attention to patient safety and pain management.
  • Dental Care: Essential dental services to maintain oral hygiene, including professional cleanings, polishing, and extractions, crucial for preventing periodontal disease.
  • Pain Management: Strategies and medications for managing both acute pain (e.g., post-surgical) and chronic pain (e.g., arthritis), ensuring the pet's comfort and quality of life.
  • Senior Pet Care: Tailored health programs for aging pets, focusing on early detection and management of age-related diseases, mobility support, and palliative care to ensure comfort in their later years. The successful long-term management of Cushing's disease in an older dog highlights their capability in this area.
  • Puppy and Kitten Care: Providing foundational health services for young animals, including initial health assessments, vaccination schedules, deworming, and behavioral advice for new pet owners.
  • Euthanasia Services: Offering compassionate end-of-life care, including euthanasia. While one review notes a very difficult experience with scheduling this, it is a service that clinics typically aim to provide with sensitivity.

Forestville Animal Hospital presents a mixed picture in terms of its features and highlights, as evidenced by the contrasting customer reviews:

  • Exceptional Diagnostic Acumen (Dr. Bache): A significant highlight is the profound gratitude expressed for Dr. Bache's ability to finally diagnose Cushing's disease in a dog after four years and numerous other veterinarians had failed, attributing symptoms to old age. This showcases a remarkable dedication to listening to owners, pursuing testing, and providing life-extending treatment for complex, chronic conditions. This level of persistent and accurate diagnosis is invaluable for pet owners.
  • Extending Quality of Life: The success story of "Buddy" living "amazing" extra years after being diagnosed and treated for Cushing's disease at 11 and turning 17 demonstrates the hospital's capacity to significantly improve and extend the quality of life for pets with challenging illnesses. This is a testament to the clinical care provided by the veterinarians.
  • Support for "Needy" Clients: The client who advocated for Buddy acknowledged being "the most annoying/needy client to date" but expressed appreciation for always being taken care of. This suggests a willingness by the medical team to work with highly engaged, even demanding, pet owners for the benefit of the animal.
  • Challenge with Front Desk Staff / Client Experience (Euthanasia): A very significant negative highlight is the extremely difficult and emotionally distressing experience described by a client attempting to arrange euthanasia for their ailing cat. The review details a "mean," "snarky," "hostile," and "yelling" receptionist who caused immense distress during a sensitive time. The reported difficulty in scheduling emergencies ("never have time for emergencies within a 2 or more week period") and the "bottom of their list" comment for an existing patient needing end-of-life care are serious concerns.
  • Community Awareness of Staff Issues: The fact that people at an "unrelated business" knew exactly who the distressed client was talking about and "had similar experiences in and even outside of the clinic" suggests a systemic or known issue with a particular staff member's conduct at the front desk.
  • Contrast Between Medical and Administrative Staff: There's a clear distinction drawn between the "really wonderful" doctor and the "old guard at the front desk," indicating that the quality of veterinary medical care itself might be high, but the initial client interaction and administrative processes can be severely problematic.
  • Compassionate End-of-Life Care Elsewhere: The contrasting positive experience at "another clinic not far away" for euthanasia highlights the importance of empathy and timely service during such sensitive procedures, indicating an area where Forestville Animal Hospital, at least in this one instance, fell short.

For pet owners in Forestville, NY, and the surrounding areas of New York, Forestville Animal Hospital offers a unique blend of experiences. Its convenient Main Street location makes it easily accessible for locals seeking veterinary care. The positive testimonial about Dr. Bache's exceptional diagnostic skills and ability to extend a pet's life with a complex condition suggests that the medical expertise within the hospital is commendable and can lead to truly life-changing outcomes for pets. However, the significantly negative account concerning the front desk staff and their handling of a sensitive end-of-life request presents a serious area of concern regarding client experience and administrative empathy. For locals, this means that while the veterinary care provided by the doctors, such as Dr. Bache, may be outstanding, potential clients should be prepared for possible challenges in initial interactions and scheduling, particularly for urgent or emotionally charged situations. Those prioritizing accurate diagnosis and long-term management of complex conditions might find the medical care highly beneficial, but it may require navigating potential front-office hurdles. It is crucial for local users to weigh these aspects when considering Forestville Animal Hospital for their pet's needs.
