Both Dr Y and Dr P have gone above and beyond our expectations. We’ve felt that they start with conservative measures/treatments when they can, and when it’s not possible their treatment plan is sensible. Features / Highlights

Freetown Animal Hospital distinguishes itself through several key features that are consistently appreciated by its clients in the Maryland area.

  • Compassionate and Caring Team: A primary highlight, reiterated by multiple clients, is the genuine care and compassion shown by the entire team, including Dr. Y (Dr. Padma Yadlapalli) and Dr. P. Clients express that "We love the team at Freetown Animal Hospital" and that the staff is "truly caring." This empathetic approach helps put both pets and owners at ease, especially during challenging health situations.

  • Experienced and Dedicated Veterinarians: Both Dr. Y and Dr. P are singled out for going "above and beyond our expectations." Dr. Yadlapalli, the founder, aimed to offer compassionate and affordable care without compromising quality. Her extensive experience in small animal practices in Columbia prior to opening Freetown Animal Hospital contributes to her expertise, particularly in preventive care and surgery.

  • Sensible and Transparent Treatment Plans: Clients appreciate that the vets "start with conservative measures/treatments when they can," and when more intensive treatment is necessary, the plan is "sensible." Risks, benefits, and alternative treatments are "well explained," ensuring pet owners are fully informed to make the best decisions for their animals.

  • Affordable Care with High Quality: One client specifically switched to Freetown Animal Hospital seeking "better, more affordable care" and was "very impressed." This suggests the clinic successfully balances cost-effectiveness with high standards of professionalism and kindness.

  • Cat Friendly Clinic Designation: Freetown Animal Hospital is recognized as a Cat Friendly Clinic. This designation indicates they have met specific standards to make the veterinary experience less stressful for feline patients, recognizing the unique needs and sensitivities of cats.

It is important to address a detailed review concerning the clinic's approach to pet nutrition. While the reviewer praised Dr. Y's kindness and professionalism as a veterinarian, they expressed strong disagreement with the prescription diets (Royal Canin, Hills Science Diet) sold and prescribed at the clinic. The reviewer, passionate about alternative pet nutrition, raises concerns about the influence of pet food companies on veterinary education and the potential links between certain commercial pet foods and various health issues. This highlights a difference in philosophy regarding pet nutrition that prospective clients might consider. While the clinic offers dietary counseling and prescription diets, pet owners who adhere to specific non-kibble or non-major brand diets may wish to discuss this aspect of care thoroughly to ensure alignment with their personal beliefs on pet health and nutrition. This feedback, while critical of one aspect, does not disparage the veterinarians' intentions or their professional kindness and overall medical care.
