Fullwood Animal Hospital is recognized for several key features and highlights, though some aspects have received mixed feedback from North Carolina clients:
- Compassionate and Caring Staff: Many clients praise the "genuinely good people who work there who truly care about the well-being of your pets." - Long-Standing Community Presence: Serving Matthews and Mint Hill since 1986, Fullwood Animal Hospital has a long history within the North Carolina community, building familiarity and trust with many families over decades.
- Fear-Free Certified: Their commitment to reducing fear, anxiety, and stress during visits, with staff trained in fear-free techniques and specific exam rooms for cats, is a commendable feature for anxious pets.
- Positive Outcomes for Some Complex Cases: While one review details challenges, another expresses profound gratitude for helping "Bunta a full, happy, healthy and extravagant life," indicating successful outcomes for complex health issues.
- Access to Rehabilitation Recommendations: Despite issues with internal aftercare, the fact that a compassionate tech recommended an external rehab clinic (which proved highly effective for Church's TPLO recovery) shows that some staff members are dedicated to patient well-being beyond the clinic's immediate scope.
However, it is important to address concerns raised by some clients:
- Aftercare Communication for Complex Surgeries: One specific review highlights significant dissatisfaction with the aftercare and communication following a TPLO surgery, citing "false hope and expectation" and lack of thorough explanation regarding healing progress. This indicates a potential area for improvement in post-operative client education and follow-up, especially for high-stakes procedures.
- Perception of Neglect in Aftercare: The feeling of being "neglected and sort of hopeless about the entire process" suggests that some clients may not receive the proactive and detailed support they expect, particularly when a pet's recovery is not straightforward.

Fullwood Animal Hospital Reviews
Overall, this is not a bad establishment. There are some great people who work there who truly care about the well-being of your pets. I brought my lab, Church here for years, but after they completed his TPLO surgery last year, I was pretty saddened and disappointed with the aftercare we received. I was really worried about Church's healing progress because his mobility and strength in the leg they operated on were not improving, which I communicated to the staff numerous times. I believe the veterinarians provided a bit of false hope and expectation as far as his healing progress and did not do a good job of explaining what needed to be done in the following months after the procedure. I started to feel neglected and sort of hopeless about the entire process. Thankfully, one of the techs there who I won't mention by name because I don't want to get her in trouble, but she reached out to me and recommended a rehab clinic where Church could receive physical therapy and wow what a difference! That tech was an absolute saint for taking the time to tell me about that place and now a few months later, Church is almost back to 100%!Like I said, there are some genuinely good people who work here. I wish the aftercare for Church had been better after his surgery or at least the communication been more thorough and honest by the doctors, but it's a business at the end of the day and they did their part, I guess you could say.I can't deny that they did help my pup to get back on the right track. It just could have been a much smoother and easier process with more realistic expectations and better communication.

May 17, 2025 · Mea GThis was my first experience with a vet and they were perfect. Everyone here was super friendly and seemed very good at their job. They were very gentle with my guinea pigs and the price was also very good. I am very happy I found this place.
Jan 12, 2025 · Eve MckinneyFrustrating visit - watch out for unexpected costs!I have been bringing my pets here for a few years now and have been mostly satisfied with their service until now. I brought my dog for a simple ear cleaning and essential vaccines, but they ended up doing extra services without asking me first, and of course, that meant a much higher bill than expected. I specifically told them that I was tight on a budget before the appointment when they asked me if I was interested in their yearly plans, yet they still went ahead and charged me for another service that I didn’t ask for at the moment. I understand that basic care is needed, but it’s basic courtesy to let the owner know and get approval first. This really felt like a cash grab just as a heads up.
Mar 10, 2025 · Camila EspinI was charged $200 over my signed estimate by the Dr. who took 3 biopsies of an extremely large tumor on my dogs leg just for the results to come back that the biopsies were not “Big enough” her exact words, for them to test. So basically it ended up costing me a total of over $700 for sedation, surgery ect… for absolutely no reason. The doctor still can’t tell me what kind of cancer, or anything else about my dog’s condition. And she still has the tumor btw nothing was able to be removed during surgery. Which is extremely frustrating. I feel when you claim to be an experienced Vet you should know the size of biopsy to take! I definitely don’t think Fullwood has had the pets best interest in mind they only care about how much money they can make you spend. And in response to your reply, I was NEVER told what kind of cancer it was “the biopsy was too small” is EXACTLY what I was told on your RECORDED CALL. Soft tissue caracoma can be ALOT of different cancers! And it’s sad that I only hear about that through your review response on here. And after reading through ALL your reviews not just the good ones moved up top, and I’m not the only person with some of the same complaints. The front staff and nurses are great it’s the actual doctors that are the problem. At the end of the day our loved pets are nothing but a dollar sign to the doctors here. And for everyone saying their prices are reasonable, remember you get what you pay for! I learned that the hard way.
