UrgentVet Introduce
For pet owners across North Carolina, the sudden onset of an illness or a minor injury in a beloved animal companion can be a source of significant worry, especially when it happens outside of regular veterinary hours. While true life-threatening emergencies require a 24/7 emergency hospital, many situations call for prompt attention that simply cannot wait until your regular veterinarian reopens. This is precisely the crucial role played by **UrgentVet Matthews** in the local pet care landscape. Located conveniently in Matthews, NC, UrgentVet offers a specialized service that bridges the gap between routine care and critical emergency services, providing timely, compassionate, and professional veterinary attention for urgent, non-life-threatening conditions.

Whether it's a weekend, a holiday, or late in the evening, UrgentVet Matthews is there to help, ensuring that your dog or cat can receive the care they need without unnecessary delay. This overview will explore the various aspects that make UrgentVet Matthews a valuable resource for pet owners throughout North Carolina, highlighting their commitment to accessible hours, experienced care, and a clear understanding of what "urgent" truly means for your furry family member. Their dedication to filling this vital gap in veterinary care makes them an indispensable part of the community's pet health infrastructure.
UrgentVet Matthews is strategically located at 1915 Matthews Township Pkwy #1200, Matthews, NC 28105, USA. This address places the clinic within the Matthews Township Shopping Center, a highly accessible and recognizable area in Matthews, North Carolina. This central location ensures that residents from Matthews itself, as well as surrounding communities in the greater Charlotte metropolitan area, including Charlotte, Ballantyne, Indian Trail, Mint Hill, and Hemby Bridge, can easily reach the facility when their pets need urgent care.
The accessibility of an urgent care clinic is paramount. When a pet is suddenly unwell, minimizing travel time and navigating complex routes is crucial for both the pet's comfort and the owner's peace of mind. Being situated on Matthews Township Parkway, a major thoroughfare, allows for straightforward navigation and typically offers ample parking within the shopping center, simplifying the process of bringing your pet in for immediate attention. This ease of access is a cornerstone of UrgentVet's service, designed to reduce the stress often associated with unexpected veterinary visits.
Furthermore, UrgentVet Matthews is designed for convenience, offering walk-in veterinary care and the option to save your spot online. This operational model means you don't need a traditional appointment, which is ideal for urgent situations that arise without warning. Their presence in a well-established commercial center ensures visibility and ease of entry, making them a readily available resource for pet owners across this part of North Carolina when their primary vet might be closed or unable to see them quickly.
UrgentVet Matthews specializes in providing immediate care for non-life-threatening conditions that require prompt veterinary attention, essentially bridging the gap between your primary veterinarian and a 24-hour emergency hospital. They are open 365 days a year, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, specifically when many regular clinics are closed. Based on customer reviews and their stated mission, the types of services they offer include:
- Diagnosis and Treatment of Sudden Illnesses: This encompasses common issues like vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy, coughing, sneezing, and various infections (e.g., ear infections, skin issues, urinary tract problems), as exemplified by the review for Piper's ear/skin issue and the schnauzer's stomach problems.
- Minor Injuries: Treatment for conditions such as mild lameness, limping, minor cuts, scrapes, sprains, or strains. They focus on quickly alleviating pain and aiding recovery.
- Allergic Reactions: Assessment and management of non-anaphylactic allergic reactions, including hives, itching, and facial swelling.
- Pain Management: Addressing acute pain from injuries or sudden onset conditions, ensuring pets are as comfortable as possible.
- Diagnostic Capabilities: UrgentVet Matthews is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, including digital X-ray, ultrasound, and in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, cultures) for rapid identification of issues. This was highlighted by the $213 bill which included an exam and culture for Piper.
- Toxin Exposure: Initial assessment and supportive care for pets that have ingested non-lethal amounts of certain toxins.
- Eye and Ear Problems: Addressing sudden onset redness, discharge, irritation, or pain in the eyes or ears.
- Post-Operative Incision Checks: Evaluating surgical sites for any immediate concerns after a procedure done elsewhere.
- Prescription Medications: Dispensing necessary medications, as seen with the prescribed cream for Piper's skin issue and the medicine for the schnauzer's stomach problems. They also offer advice on where to fill prescriptions.
- Collaboration with Primary Vets: UrgentVet ensures that a copy of your pet's record is updated with your regular veterinarian within 24 hours of your visit, ensuring continuity of care. They do not provide preventative or general care, focusing solely on urgent needs.
It's crucial for pet owners to understand that UrgentVet does NOT treat life-threatening emergencies such as severe trauma (e.g., hit by car), uncontrolled bleeding, severe difficulty breathing, seizures, or conditions requiring overnight hospitalization. For such critical situations, immediate transfer to a 24-hour emergency hospital is necessary.

- Walk-in and Online Check-in Options: Pet owners can simply walk in or save their spot online to minimize wait times, providing flexibility and convenience.
- Seamless Communication with Primary Vets: They ensure your regular veterinarian receives your pet's records within 24 hours of your visit, promoting continuity of care.
- Focus on Dogs and Cats: By specializing in these two most common household pets, they dedicate their resources and expertise to provide optimal and efficient care.

UrgentVet Reviews
We have brought our dog here a few times over the weekends when our regular vet was not open. They are always very nice and willing to help our dog (Piper). We recently brought in Piper thinking she had an ear infection. Turns out it was just a skin issue from the groomers cutting too close to the ear. They did not provide us meds because my hubby thought we had some at home. Turns out we did not have any, so I called them the next day and they were able to prescribe a cream and I just ran over to get it.One thing I will say that they are kind of expensive. I saw the cream they prescribed (which was by prescription only) was $9.00 on chewy and the same thing I picked up from them was $35.00. Our bill for the exam and culture was $213.00.The service was great though, so it outweighed the cost.
Mar 17, 2025 · Robin FMy 15-year-old schnauzer was having some stomach and diarrhea issues. I called for an appointment and they said to come on down they would take a look at him. Dr Sweet and John were very helpful in discussing to me what was the issue and how to resolve it. They suggested a lot of tests that they thought might need to be run to determine the problem. Since I am very familiar with my dog I knew exactly what the issue was and I just told them to prescribe me the medicine and that would be all. I will use urgent vet again if necessary I already have a veterinarian who watches my dog but was unable to see him so that's the reason why I went to urgent vet. Thanks for helping my dog out when he needed it. He is feeling much better and the medicine is working! Thanks to John and Dr Sweet and all the other technicians who helped!! All of you seem to be very caring about what you do. Thanks again! 👍
Jun 16, 2025 · Dennis ConnellThis clinic offered me options and solace when I had to put my beloved family cat down. It was a surprise, he got sick so quickly, and they were able to see me right away. The check in process was minimal and quick. The nurses were kind and compassion along with the doctor. I cannot thank them enough for explaining everything, and allowing me time to breathe and process, as well as allowing me time to have my Chaplin say goodbye to everyone. They allowed me to hold my boy as he took his journey across the rainbow bridge. They even handled the cremation for me. I have so many good things to say about this place. If my vet is ever unavailable, I know where I can go for urgent care for my pets. Trust them folks! It was a sad experience but the team there made it all the better.
May 16, 2025 · Dee DuncanOur sweet dogs health had been declining and we had seen our vet two weeks prior, but she ended up being very sick so our vet recommended taking her to urgent vet. From the moment we walked in they were so kind and compassionate, and put us in a room that had a beautiful dog bed and pillows. The vet came in and did a thorough assessment and agreed with us that it was probably her time.It was a difficult but peaceful transition for our sweet Lexi girl. They respectfully gave us the time we needed to say our goodbyes.
Jul 05, 2025 · Tami WoodinI cannot say enough good things about UrgentVet! I was dog-sitting my mom’s dog (she’s visiting from Massachusetts), and she was swatted in the face by my cat, leaving blood in her eyes. Naturally, I rushed to another emergency vet hospital and waited for hours, only to be told the wait would get even longer due to incoming critical cases. I felt completely helpless, especially after they took the dog to the back and placed her in a crate, despite me asking them to bring her back if we had to wait. While still in the ER waiting room, someone recommended UrgentVet, and I am so grateful they did. I made an appointment online while still at the first vet, and 10 minutes later we were at UrgentVet—and seen immediately. From the moment we walked in, the staff was kind, efficient, and professional. Nick, the vet tech, was absolutely wonderful—compassionate, communicative, and thorough. Dr. Bowman and Nick worked together as a team, assessing the dog in front of me instead of taking her to the back, which made me feel included, informed, and reassured. We were out in under 45 minutes, and the entire experience was smoother, more transparent, and honestly far more compassionate than the first ER. And to top it off, the total cost was only $25 more than the base fee at the other hospital.UrgentVet has earned my trust, and I will be taking all of my pets here moving forward. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of quick, caring, and quality veterinary care.
