Malletts Bay Veterinary Hospital distinguishes itself through several key features that resonate deeply with local pet owners, fostering a strong and positive reputation within the community:
- Highly Compassionate and Gentle Staff: Clients consistently praise the entire staff for their kindness, gentleness, and genuine care for animals. This empathetic approach is crucial, especially for pets who might be nervous or have specific behavioral needs, as highlighted by a client with a sensitive Pitbull and French Bulldog.
- Personalized Relationship with Pets and Owners: The hospital excels at building long-term relationships, with staff and veterinarians like Dr. Lexi Naylor getting to "really know us and our pets." This personalized attention fosters trust and ensures a continuity of care that is deeply valued by pet families.
- Excellent Communication and Active Listening: Dr. Lexi Naylor is specifically commended for being "gentle and kind, listens to your concerns, and cares deeply for the animals she works with." This active listening ensures that pet owners feel heard and involved in their pet's care plan.
- Expertise with Diverse Breeds: The fact that clients bring both a Pitbull and a French Bulldog, and highly recommend the practice, suggests their comfort and expertise with a variety of breeds, including those that might have specific health considerations or temperaments.
- Long-Standing Community Presence: Being established since 1974 indicates a deep root in the Colchester community, building decades of trust and reliability with generations of pet owners. Their claim as "your neighborhood's favorite vet" is backed by this history.
It's important to note that while the majority of feedback emphasizes exceptional care and communication, a recent review highlighted a negative experience concerning post-procedure communication and perceived lack of immediate concern for a hospitalized pet. While this feedback offers a critical perspective and suggests areas for improvement in consistent communication and empathetic responses during stressful situations, the overwhelmingly positive testimonials from long-term clients about the general staff, personalized care, and specific veterinarians like Dr. Lexi Naylor, indicate a strong foundation of high-quality and compassionate care. The hospital's proactive engagement with all feedback, aiming to "go forth and do just that... be BETTER," suggests a commitment to continuous improvement and client satisfaction.

Malletts Bay Veterinary Hospital Reviews
We’ve been taking our two dogs (pitbull and French bulldog) to Mallets Bay Vet for about 5 years now. I cannot say enough good things about them. All of the staff have been such a pleasure to work with, and really know us and our pets. We primarily see Dr. Lexi Naylor, she is so gentle and kind, listens to your concerns, and cares deeply for the animals she works with. Highly recommend this practice!
Apr 01, 2025 · Taylor ClarkMy pet recently spent some time at BEVS following a procedure in their office. Not once during that time did their staff or providers check on his status with me and only after a week did I hear from Dr. Page. When I visited to collect his records, the desk staff said flatly “oh. Well. Sorry bout that” when I disclosed that he was doing poorly and was currently hospitalized at BEVS. During my conversation with Dr. Page, it took him 26 minutes to even ask about how my animal was doing once home. Dr Page, I believe, intended to be apologetic for his staff's behavior, but throughout his tone was unfortunately adjacent to mansplaining. I also received a combative but not ill-intended email from Dr Page as follow up. Like our verbal conversation, it fell shy of making any real headway in terms of creating understanding or functioning in a reparative way. Overall, while my cat survived, I cannot say anything to recommend this experience or their practice. MBV may be well intentioned but has some serious gaps in patient care and communication skill. I saw more commitment to "being right" and an assertion of Dr. Page's opinions and less to actual patient care or compassion. Given the profound relationship of pets to their families, I expected better from a Veterinary group and hope that an effort is made on their part to go forth and do just that... be BETTER.

Sep 14, 2024 · Jessica LaRose (Jusbianme)Those of us that take pets on vacation live in fear of an emergency with our pet while away. That happened to us, we are from Rhode Island, on the third day of a fourteen day stay on Grand Isle, when our Chihuahua fell in the early evening and severely injured her front left paw, fracturing three metatarsals as we would find out the next day.We immediately called Burlington Emergency & Veterinary Specialists “Vermont’s only specialty and 24/7 emergency animal hospital” and were turned away. The next morning, we called nine other vets and explained our desperation only to similarly be turned away. When we called Malletts Bay Veterinary Hospital they immediately understood our situation and we were graciously welcomed into the practice and treated as if we had been long-time patients. The facility is beautiful and everyone we interacted with was kind, charming, and empathetic. We left our little Lucy with them to be assessed as they had to fit her in between their previously scheduled patients, confident that she was in good hands.Dr. Dustin Page personally called us to explain what they were going to do, then called us again after they had x-rayed her, reset her metatarsals, and placed a cast on her leg. He was compassionate, patient and, again, treated us like we were regular patients. We will be following up with him next week for them to redress her arm before we leave for home.It is not possible for me to adequately express our thanks to the fantastic team at Malletts Bay Veterinary Hospital. They fulfilled their oath to use their skills for “the prevention and relief of animal suffering,” and we are very happy to know that we can now count ourselves amongst the list of their very lucky patients.
