What is worth choosing?
Choosing a veterinary hospital is a deeply personal decision, and the experiences of other pet owners can be incredibly telling. The reviews for Mesa West Pet Hospital present a complex picture, highlighting both the high points and the challenges of the practice. The first review is a powerful testament to the compassionate care offered, with a heartfelt expression of gratitude for the kindness and professionalism shown to a 16-year-old poodle and his owners. The mention of Dr. Lethicia Lepera by name and her compassionate welcome speaks to the personal and empathetic touch that a good veterinarian can provide. This kind of care, especially during a time of need for an aging pet, is what many pet owners in California seek. This review underscores the clinic’s potential for providing truly exceptional, humane, and professional service.
However, the second review provides a crucial counter-narrative that is equally important for potential clients to consider. This experience, marked by long wait times, a lack of communication, and billing discrepancies, points to potential issues with operational consistency. The frustration over being charged for a test that was explicitly declined is a serious concern. The perceived "insulting discount" further compounds the issue, suggesting a breakdown in client relations and a lack of accountability. The fact that the promised follow-up call never happened is a major red flag regarding communication and customer service follow-through.
When weighing whether Mesa West Pet Hospital is the right choice, a prospective client should consider both perspectives. On one hand, there is clear evidence of compassionate, high-quality medical care, particularly from the named veterinarian. For those with a beloved pet in need of a caring touch, this is a significant draw. On the other hand, the negative review highlights potential issues with scheduling, billing transparency, and client communication. It is worth noting the contrast between the excellent medical care described in one review and the administrative frustrations in the other. For a pet owner, the worth of this hospital may depend on how highly they value a personal, compassionate connection versus administrative efficiency and clear billing practices. The hospital’s commitment to inclusivity and advanced medical services remains a strong positive, but the need for a seamless client experience is a valid concern that prospective clients should be aware of.

May 28 · Bruno MapurungaI have taken my dog here handful of times but my recent experience ensures we will not be back. We originally had a 12pm appointment for a check up and a few vaccines and when we arrived we waited in the lobby for about 20 minutes before getting checked in. Once checked in and weighed we were brought into an exam room where we met with an assistant who weighed my dog again and let me know that the vet would be in soon. We then proceeded to wait 40 minutes in the room with no one ever coming to check in on us. I eventually had to return to work so I left the room and tried to let someone know we had to leave but there was no one at the receptionist desk or anywhere to be seen. We left and I decided to give them a call to let them know we had left, but I could not get ahold of anyone on the phone either. I called again about 15 minutes later just to ensure they know we left and finally got ahold of someone. We had decided after that experience that we would just rather go somewhere else but then a few days later we got a call from the receptionist apologizing for the experience we had and offered to get us a new appointment and also offered us a discount if we came back in. I thought it over and decided to give them another try. I confirmed with the receptionist over the phone exactly which vaccines and tests that I wanted to have done and also confirmed a few that I did not want done and then I scheduled an appointment. I had to be at work so my wife offered to take our dog in. I had let my wife know that I had confirmed which services would be done and it was all set and that all she would have to do is take our dog in. My wife was able to take our dog in and then afterwards gave me call saying how it was more expensive than she expected and that’s when I discovered that they ran the tests that I had explicitly said I did not want to have run and it cost an additional $185. This was absolutely infuriating to find out, especially after explicitly confirming with the receptionist that I did not want those tests done. The other kicker was that the “discount” they gave us was a 1.8% discount - $10.50 off a $569.80 bill. An absolutely insulting discount that shouldn’t even be considered a discount. After learning about them charging us for tests I did not want and then only giving us a 1.8% discount, I gave them a call to express my frustration and the receptionist said they were sorry and that the vet would be giving me a call back to discuss the issue. That was over 2 weeks ago and I have not heard back from anyone. We will absolutely never return to this vet after this experience and would advise that you don’t either.
June 12 · wcwilliam14This is our regular vet and service team for our animals, cat and dog. They are always kind and considerate, they do a great job in grooming as well as surgical procedures. I recommend highly
December 11 · Patty AraujoWe cannot recommend Mesa West enough. Prior to coming to Mesa West we were patients at another local Newport Beach vet. For months we struggled to get appointments when needed and receive basic care. Our breaking point was when our dog was sick and in critical need of care. We were unable to get in at our old vet and desperately called Mesa West. From the get go Mesa West was caring and accommodating. They got us in the very next day and delivered superior care for our pup, even calling to follow up on his status. Over time this is just one of the many amazing experiences we have had with Mesa West. Dr. Lepera and her staff are simply the best. We are so grateful to have found them for our boy Wally!
December 30 · Savanna Olson SternMe and my whole family LOVE Mesa West Pet Hospital. We have had nothing but great experiences with them. From check-ups, to boarding, to making the difficult decision to put down an elderly pet, they have been wonderful & supportive. Their prices are the most reasonable I have seen and they are always willing to work with you and give you options. I would recommend Mesa West Pet Hospital to anyone. I live about 25 minutes away from them now but refuse to go anywhere else for my pet's needs.
