Neartown Animal Clinic stands out in the Houston veterinary community through several distinctive features and highlights, many of which are passionately articulated in client testimonials. These elements collectively paint a picture of a practice deeply committed to both medical excellence and compassionate care.
- Exceptional Compassion and Empathy: This is perhaps the most recurring and impactful highlight. Clients consistently praise the entire team, including Dr. Lee, Dr. Johnston, Dr. Miller, and the retired Dr. Hunt, for their incredible kindness, patience, and empathy. Reviewers share moving stories of how the clinic supported them through difficult decisions, particularly during their pets' final years and moments, treating each animal "with such love and dignity, as if she were their own." This profound level of care truly sets them apart.
- AAHA Accreditation: Neartown Animal Clinic is an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited facility. This is a significant distinction, as only about 15% of animal hospitals in the U.S. and Canada achieve this accreditation. It signifies that the clinic regularly undergoes rigorous evaluations to meet or exceed AAHA's high standards of care across nearly every aspect of hospital operations, including surgery, exam facilities, patient care, cleanliness, client service, emergency services, diagnostic imaging, and anesthesiology. This accreditation assures pet owners of a commitment to the highest quality medical care.
- Fear Free Certified® Practice: The clinic is Fear Free Certified®, meaning their staff has undergone specialized training to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets during veterinary visits. This focus on minimizing pet discomfort, through gentle handling and a calming environment, makes a significant difference for anxious animals and their owners, fostering a more positive vet experience.
- Cat Friendly Certified® Practice: Endorsed by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) and the International Society for Feline Medicine (ISFM), this certification highlights their dedication to elevating care for cats by reducing stress for the cat, caregiver, and the entire veterinary team. This is particularly beneficial for feline patients who often react poorly to traditional, multi-species clinic environments.
- Thorough and Honest Second Opinions: One notable highlight from a review describes how Neartown Animal Clinic provided a vastly different and ultimately successful diagnosis for a pup previously told needed expensive, unnecessary procedures elsewhere. This demonstrates their diagnostic acumen, commitment to accurate assessments, and a willingness to offer honest, effective treatment plans.
- Patient and Clear Communication: Clients consistently note that the team "never rushed us through appointments and always took time to explain our options with patience and empathy." This clear and transparent communication ensures that pet owners are well-informed and comfortable with all aspects of their pet's care and associated costs.
- Longevity of Care and Trust: The testament from a client who had their three dogs cared for by Neartown for "over 15 years" underscores the clinic's ability to build lasting relationships and provide consistent, high-quality care throughout a pet's entire life, fostering deep trust within the community.

Neartown Animal Clinic Reviews
I went to Neartown in need of a second opinion for my pup who I was being told needed $600+ x-rays for an obstruction. Neartown recognized the symptoms as something entirely different and after a week of antibiotics, she’s doing much better! Now, several weeks and a follow up visit later, their treatment has helped heal her gut and made her a happy dog, once again.Thank you Neartown for taking such good care of my fur baby!
May 14, 2025 · Connie EatonNeartown Animal Clinic cared for our sweet three dogs for over 15 years, and I truly believe they lived as long and as comfortably as they did because of the care they received there.Dr. Lee, Dr. Johnston, Dr. Miller, Dr. Hunt (retired), and all of the staff were not only professional but incredibly kind. They never rushed us through appointments and always took time to explain our options with patience and empathy. When our dogs faced health issues in their final years—UTIs, chronic kidney disease, pancreatitis, and age-related decline—the team guided us through every difficult decision with honesty and compassion.I especially remember how gentle they were with our youngest dog during her final visits. They treated her with such love and dignity, as if she were their own. Even after she passed, their support didn’t end. What they did for us in those days meant more than words can express. The thoughtful gestures, the kind words, and simply knowing they genuinely cared brought so much comfort during that painful time.Every member of the staff was consistently warm, attentive, and respectful.Thank you, Neartown Animal Clinic team, for being there through the happiest and hardest parts of our dogs’ lives. We will never forget the grace and care you showed during our dogs’ final days. We will always be grateful.
Jun 26, 2025 · Heather KimPlaced an appointment for what I perceived as an allergic reaction in my dog. After waiting 20 minutes in an empty clinic, I was asked to go into a room that had not yet been sanitized after a sick animals appointment. (I overheard the front desk discussing this before I requested a different room) once I was situated a tech came in and greeted me in an exasperated manner and then yelled for a chart for my animal. Mikaela the office manager came in to see how my visit was going, as I was waiting in a vet and a chart.I voiced my frustrations and explained I had been sitting in the waiting room long enough to observe her lack of management, as a matter of fact she seemed way more excited to receive an Amazon package for the practice than actually making sure animals are cared for. If you actually care about treating your animal, choose a different vet.
Jun 24, 2025 · Taylor SchwartzFrustrated and disappointed, read the below before your appointment. At the beginning of December, our dog was not feeling well — he was drooling uncontrollably and eating very slowly, which was unusual for him. We took him to the vet clinic, and after blood tests and X-rays (which cost us almost $800, and we were asked for consent beforehand), he was diagnosed with what was described as a neurological issue in the neck. He was prescribed medication, which we started giving him that same evening.Over the next two days, he developed diarrhea, and when we noticed blood in his stool, we immediately stopped giving him the medication. No one had warned us that such side effects were possible, nor were we advised to give him probiotics. Two days later, he vomited pieces of a wooden stick, which we strongly believe was the actual cause of his condition — not a neurological issue as diagnosed. Now, the most concerning part — April 27 was the last day our dog could legally receive his rabies vaccine. I scheduled an appointment for April 26 and specifically asked if any additional vaccinations or steps were needed, since we had recently moved from abroad and weren’t familiar with all the local rules. On the day of the appointment, we were denied the rabies vaccine because of the previous diagnosis — which we believe was incorrect. We were told we now needed an additional examination before vaccination could be administered. We spent nearly an hour explaining that we had already paid a large amount for a misdiagnosis and medications that harmed our dog without any warning or probiotic support. We were left with an impossible choice: pay for yet another exam or miss the legally required vaccination deadline. Had we been informed of this policy when the appointment was scheduled, we could have made different arrangements.I am not a confrontational person, but this experience was extremely frustrating, stressful, and disappointing. We feel misled, overcharged, and unheard. I hope no other pet owner has to go through what we did.
Apr 30, 2025 · Marta OstafiichukWe recently had our first visit at Neartown Animal Clinic and had an excellent experience. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and they went above and beyond to make our new puppy feel comfortable during the visit. The facilities were clean and well-maintained, and the vet took the time to answer all of my questions thoroughly. A special thanks to Destine for making our visit special, she was so kind and took her time with us. I highly recommend to anyone looking for top-notch care for their pets!
