Paws & Claws Animal Hospital and Holistic Pet Center Introduce
For Texas pet owners who seek a more comprehensive, individualized approach to their animal's health, Paws & Claws Animal Hospital and Holistic Pet Center in Plano, Texas, offers a unique and invaluable solution. This clinic is not a conventional veterinary practice; it is a full-service animal hospital that integrates traditional Western medicine with a wide range of holistic and natural therapies. This integrative approach means your pet's health is viewed from all angles—body, mind, and spirit—to find the most effective and least invasive path to healing. The clinic is a true destination for pet owners looking to explore options beyond standard pharmaceutical treatments, whether it's for chronic conditions, pain management, or simply a desire for a more natural approach to wellness. With a focus on validating and supporting the pet owner's preferences, Paws & Claws is well worth the drive for those seeking a holistic veterinarian.
The core of Paws & Claws' philosophy is rooted in a deep understanding that conventional treatments are not always the only or best option. They provide a full spectrum of services, including both traditional and alternative therapies. This approach is highly valued by clients, as one reviewer noted, "I was very impressed with Paws & Claws Holistic Pet Care & Animal Hospital! Dr. Shawn listened and validated the holistic care I wanted for our puppy." This level of respect for the owner's wishes, coupled with the staff's incredible kindness and friendliness, creates a welcoming and collaborative environment. This is a place where clients feel empowered and their choices are taken seriously, a rare and important quality in a veterinary practice.
Paws & Claws stands out for its wide array of specialized services. Beyond routine core vaccines and comprehensive exams, they offer advanced diagnostics like abdominal ultrasounds and CT scans. Their approach to medicine is truly integrative, with a focus on functional veterinary medicine, which aims to identify and treat the root cause of a disease rather than just the symptoms. They also offer a wide array of natural and holistic treatments that you won’t find at every clinic. These include cold laser therapy for pain management, herbal medicine, veterinary homeopathy, and raw pet diet support. This broad spectrum of options ensures that pets, especially those with chronic diseases or conditions where traditional medicine has limited success, have a better chance at a long and healthy life.
A powerful testament to the clinic’s effectiveness is found in the story of a client’s 13-year-old dog, who other vets had recommended putting down due to age-related issues. At Paws & Claws, the pup received red light therapy treatments, which are a form of cold laser therapy. As the owner gratefully shared, "The red light therapy treatments are working great! My pup hates going to the vet. As soon as he realizes where we are, he gets happy and excited to be there." This dramatic transformation from a fearful vet visit to one filled with happiness and excitement speaks volumes about the caring environment and effective treatments provided at the clinic. It is a place that truly gives senior pets a "better life," proving that age-related issues don’t always mean the end of the road.
In addition to their medical services, Paws & Claws provides invaluable support for a variety of pet owner concerns. They offer dietary consultations and support for raw pet diets, which are a cornerstone of their holistic approach. They also help with common issues like pet allergies, skin diseases, and pet anxiety with natural treatments. For pets facing serious health issues, they provide cancer support and treatments like chemotherapy, integrating these with natural detoxification to minimize side effects and support the pet's immune system. They even offer special services like ovary sparing spay, which is a holistic alternative to traditional spay procedures.
The staff’s commitment to providing an unparalleled experience is evident in their customer service. Clients appreciate that they can ask a lot of questions without feeling pressured to buy anything. The staff’s deep knowledge of their products and therapies, along with their ability to explain why they are better than what’s on the market, builds trust and confidence. This emphasis on education and transparency ensures that pet owners are not just passive recipients of care but active partners in their pet’s health journey.
For Texas residents who are willing to drive for quality, holistic care, Paws & Claws Animal Hospital is an exceptional choice. Their integrative model, compassionate staff, and wide range of unique services make them a "highly recommend" destination. They are a clinic that can handle everything from a new puppy’s first visit to a senior pet’s end-of-life care, all with a focus on holistic healing and the overall well-being of the animal. They truly understand that the goal is not just to treat a disease but to heal the pet, helping them to live a longer, healthier, and happier life.

Testing and treating for endocrine and immune dysfunction may be helpful for pets with chronic problems that fail to respond in a timely manner to other therapies. Simple blood testing can reveal a lot of information and guide treatment for these challenging cases.
- Veterinary Holistic Sterilization
While many pet parents opt for a traditional spay or neuter, there’s an increasing number of pet parents who prefer an ovary-sparing spay or a vasectomy. We are happy to discuss your options with you and select the option that best suits your needs as well as your pet’s needs.
- Veterinary Holistic Treatment for Pain
Using a holistic approach, combining effective doses of safe conventional medications with natural therapies for pain including proprietary herbal combinations, homeopathics, acupuncture, and cold laser therapy will help your pet feel better in no time!
- Veterinary Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a medical science developed by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician. It is based on the principle that “like cures like,” and uses extremely dilute substances to assist the body in healing.
- Veterinary Homotoxicology
As is true with homeopathy, diluted substances are given to the patient to assist with healing. Unlike traditional homeopathy, homotoxicology uses patented combinations of homeopathic and sometimes herbal substances to encourage healing and resolution of clinical signs.
- Veterinary Hospice Care and Humane Euthanasia
We want to give pet parents options in the final days and hours of their beloved pets. They are members of our family and respect for their lives is so important. Sometimes because of the severity of the medical condition palliative therapy is used. Hospice may be part of the final days as well.
- Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostics
Blood tests and other laboratory tests are essential in keeping your pet well and diagnosing illness. Southside Veterinary Clinic offers an in-house, state-of-the-art laboratory enabling us to provide accurate laboratory results within a very short period of time.
- Veterinary Natural Detoxification
“Detoxing” is commonly done in pets and people to help restore patients to a less toxic internal environment. We employ mild detoxification using herbs and homeopathics for chronically ill patients, patients suffering from over-vaccination and treatment with chemicals and drugs.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It was our first visit with our 13 week old puppy. We drove 50 minutes due to there being no #Holistic veterinarian close in our area.I was very impressed with Paws & Claws Holistic Pet Care & Animal Hospital! Dr. Shawn listened and validated the holistic care I wanted for our puppy. The staff and Dr. Shawn are incredibly nice and friendly! Well worth the drive! Highly recommend!!!
April 01 · Denise AndersonThis company is amazing! I had several vets just tell me my dog was old, and it was time to put him down. Hes 13 and has problems getting up. Other than that hes a happy and healthy dog. The red light therapy treatments are working great! My pup hates going to the vet. As soon as he realizes where we are, he gets happy and excited to be there. The staff is super amazing. I ask a lot of questions and felt no pressure to buy anything. They know their products and why they’re better than what’s on the market. Thank you for giving my pup a better life!
August 12 · Punkrock Hair GoddessI love the holistic approach and for the first time feel like my dogs are in great hands. The staff is amazing, warm, and friendly. Dr. Shawn always puts me at ease explaining options, however, never pushing anything. I drive 45 minutes b/c I always feel at ease and know my dogs are in the best hands!
June 14 · Melissa Piper-BarrUnfortunately, this review has to be updated negatively. :(We went in on 11/26 with our hyperthyroid cat for senior bloodwork, EKG and urinalysis. They let us know with Thanksgiving in between it would be at least a week until we got the results back. Totally fine and completely understand! After 9 days on 12/5, I emailed to follow up. No reply until 12/9 and missing over half of the blood results with no explanation for where the urinalysis & EKG were. Somehow the lab did not receive some of the blood serum and so we would have to take our cat back in, which is time-consuming and stressful. But understand things like this can happen. I emailed back promptly with 4 questions that were pretty straight forward. On 12/12, I had to follow up because I had not heard back. I figured my email just got lost. But, the Dr. did not even call me to go over the results he did have (like he has previously) nor apologize for the issue with the blood and needing to bring her back in to redo it. There also was miscommunication about the Total T4 (part of the missing results) so I tried calling and left a VM, then I had to call the actual lab to try and get some answers. The lab could only call the vet for me. Then I received an email back (not a phone call) that "my vet tech" was out of office until the next week (12/16) and they would reach out then. That week came and went. I went ahead and gave them the week of Christmas too because I understand it is a busy time of year. That week came and went also, so on 12/30 I called several times and sent an email. Because at this point it has been over a month without my cat's full test results that we paid for, and lack of communication with answers for the steps to take going forward. We are very busy and need to plan ahead to take time off work since we do not live close by.I just could not understand what was happening. Were there other patients just not taken care of and replied to for a month? Are there not other vet techs or Dr's who can help answer questions in a timely manner? IF NOT, an email back with an update would have been great but it was like I was being completely ignored. That is what is upsetting. The lack of communication and customer service. Finally, on January 2nd, they reached out. This was unacceptable. Especially, with the issue of missing blood serum, that should have been enough for you to go out of your way to take care of Teddy and make up for that mishap and inconvenience. It's so sad that all of this could have been handled with a short 10-minute phone call back on 12/5. :( But oh well, she's doing great, turned 18 and is still living her best Natural Hygiene life!---You guys are not only super kind, prompt in your email replies, but also knowledgeable and exceptionally understanding. You are not pushy on treatments and your holistic approach to pet health sets you apart. I love how you prioritize the well-being of the whole body. I appreciate having a like-minded vet hospital to go to that provides top-notch care. Thank you Paws & Claws Team! Five furry paws up!
March 10 · Danielle NazirThis was our first visit, recommended by a friend, to try and find some alternatives for our senior dog who has developed serious night time anxiety. Dr. Messonnier listened, asked lots of questions and started us on a plan to try and help everyone get some sleep. We will continue to visit.
