Ries Phil DVM Introduce
For pet owners in Albuquerque, New Mexico, entrusting a beloved animal to a veterinarian is a decision of great importance. When a pet requires specialized care, particularly in the field of internal medicine, finding a practitioner who is both highly competent and deeply empathetic becomes a critical factor. Dr. Phil Ries, a long-standing internal medicine specialist associated with a VCA clinic in Albuquerque, is a name that local residents may encounter when seeking advanced care for their pets. This article is designed to provide a comprehensive, factual, and informative overview of the experiences shared by local pet owners regarding Dr. Ries, helping other New Mexico residents make an informed choice for their animal's health.
The veterinary community in Albuquerque is an essential part of the fabric of pet ownership. Dr. Ries, as a specialist in internal medicine, is positioned to handle complex and difficult cases that require a high degree of expertise. However, a significant part of the veterinary experience is not just the technical skill but the ability to communicate with and reassure pet owners. This is where the reviews offer a detailed perspective. One customer, a long-time pet owner, expressed profound dissatisfaction with their interactions with Dr. Ries, describing him as a "less caring, less competent veterinarian" they had ever encountered. This review highlights a perceived lack of empathy and what they refer to as a poor "bedside manner" when dealing with pets and their owners during complicated situations.
A crucial element of the vet-client relationship is trust. Pet owners rely on their veterinarians not only for medical advice but also for clear and compassionate communication, especially when a pet is seriously ill. The customer's review suggests that in their experience, this was not the case with Dr. Ries. They noted a lack of clear communication and felt that the doctor's approach was more focused on recommending increasingly expensive diagnostic and palliative care options without the necessary context or empathy. The review also mentions a concern about the use of "cutting-edge diagnostic tools," implying a feeling that the care may not be as modern as they would hope for in a specialist. It is important for locals considering a visit to have a clear understanding of these perspectives to manage their expectations.
The clinic itself, VCA, is a large network of animal hospitals, and the customer in the review was careful to differentiate their experience with Dr. Ries from the general services of the VCA clinic, noting that the clinic staff "try, to varying degrees, to take care of your animal with some small modicum of care." This distinction is important for locals to understand: the experience with a specific specialist may be different from the general care provided by the rest of the clinic's team.
The address associated with Dr. Ries's practice is 9901 9901, Albuquerque, NM 87111, USA. While the specific street address is unique, it's located in the greater Albuquerque area, which is a major city in New Mexico. Its location within a large metropolitan area means it is accessible to a wide range of residents from different neighborhoods. However, for a specialty vet, travel is often expected, and residents from surrounding areas may also consider a visit. The phone number provided for contact is (505) 292-5353. This is the main number to reach the clinic and inquire about services.
As a specialist in internal medicine, Dr. Ries would be expected to provide a range of specialized services that go beyond general practice. These services typically involve complex diagnostics and long-term management of chronic conditions.

Ries Phil DVM Reviews
This is not a review of VCA - they try, to varying degrees, to take care of your animal with some small modicum of care. It is a review of Dr. Phil Ries, a long-standing internal medicine specialist with the clinic. Without a moment's hesitation, after being the caretaker and friend of household pets for more than 50 years, I knew within moments of meeting this "doctor" the I'd never encountered a less caring, less competent veterinarian. You will not encounter empathy. You will not encounter cutting-edge diagnostic tools. You will not encounter the least bit of "beside manner" should your pet friend have a complicated condition. NO. You will get Phil Ries, a guy who long ago should have retired from any interaction, much less interface, with people considered with the healthful well being of your pet. HE DOES NOT CARE. It is not within his capacity. His strong suit? Not communicating well and recommending every ascending price points for diagnostic or palliative care. He needs to have his licensing re-visited or revoked.

Feb 12, 2025 · Barkley JamI called and they said they were closed but if it was a life threatening then they might see my dog. I was told they only had 1 Dr on and there are other animals that have to have 24hr care. If they are not going to take animals that are sick and concerned pet owners don't know how to help them feel better then maybe this place should be only for animals that need 24hr care not a 24hr emergency vet hospital.
