Scott AFB Veterinary Treatment Facility Introduce
For military members and eligible beneficiaries stationed across the Illinois region, securing trustworthy and affordable veterinary care for their cherished companion animals is a primary concern. The **Scott AFB Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF)**, operating as both an animal hospital and veterinarian clinic, serves a vital role in supporting the local military community. While its core mission is focused on military readiness, primarily through the care of Military Working Dogs (MWDs), the facility extends its professional, compassionate services to the pets of military families, including both dogs and cats.
The dedicated staff, composed of a skilled veterinarian, certified technicians, and administrative personnel, understand the unique challenges military families face, especially regarding Permanent Change of Station (PCS) requirements. They are known for providing personalized, gentle care that makes a significant difference in the pet's experience, particularly for animals who may be anxious at the vet. This facility is consistently praised for being a "hidden gem" that offers an indispensable service to those who serve.
Location and Accessibility on Scott Air Force Base
The Scott AFB VTF is located directly on the base in Scott AFB, Illinois, making it a convenient option for personnel with base access. It's important for local users to note that due to its location on a military installation, eligibility requirements generally apply, restricting services primarily to the pets of active-duty, reserve, or retired military members and other authorized beneficiaries.
- Address: 852 South Dr #856, Scott AFB, IL 62225, USA
- Planning Your Visit: Due to the facility's mission and limited staffing (typically one veterinarian), **Appointments are recommended**, and scheduling often requires planning ahead. Some clients have noted that appointments may require a wait of a week or two, but the quality of care is universally considered "worth the wait."
- Accessibility: The facility is designed to be fully accessible, ensuring a smooth visit for all clients. Features include a **Wheelchair accessible entrance**, **Wheelchair accessible parking lot**, and a **Wheelchair accessible restroom**. The focus on client comfort and ease of access contributes to a positive overall experience.
Comprehensive Services Offered
The Scott AFB VTF provides a focused range of essential and preventative veterinary services necessary for maintaining the health of companion animals. While their primary mission centers on military working dogs (MWDs) and public health initiatives like rabies prevention, they extend a strong offering of services to support military family pets.
- Routine Wellness and Check-ups: Comprehensive examinations for dogs and cats, ensuring overall health and addressing early signs of illness.
- Immunizations and Vaccinations: Providing required and recommended immunizations, which is a key part of their preventive medicine focus.
- Preventive Medicine: Guidance and products for parasite control, nutritional counseling, and other preventative measures to ensure long-term well-being.
- Treatment for Common Illnesses: Diagnosis and treatment of frequent pet ailments such as ear infections, skin conditions, and digestive issues.
- Pet Relocation/PCS Support: Crucial assistance for military families moving, especially overseas. This includes ensuring pets meet all health, vaccination, and paperwork requirements, and in some cases, bypassing the U.S. Department of Agriculture approval process to save time and money. Pet owners are advised to call as soon as they receive their PCS orders.
- Surgical Procedures: While focused on readiness, the facility does offer some surgical services, though appointments are limited due to staffing.
- Public Health Initiatives: Participation in rabies prevention programs is a key part of their broader mission.
- **Animal Registration:** All pets living in on-post housing must be registered with the VTF upon arrival.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- Great service! The techs and vet here are so awesome with our Golden doodle. He had an ear infection and they were so gentle and helpful with teaching us the way to treat him so he can get back to 100%. Worth the wait if they don’t have any appointments available for a week or two. October 02 · Adam Chambers
- Brought my cat in for immunizations and a check up, I was very pleased with the care by the techs and the doctor. The building was quiet and not crowded with other appointments/pets like other vet clinics can be. I really appreciate that as a cat owner that has had problems in the past with the cat's anxiety with going to the vet. I would highly recommend! December 06 · Yung Lenk
- Called in the late morning at the beginning of the month to see about moving my cat to this office. Lady who answered placed me on hold for 6 minutes and 20 seconds. I think someone went to lunch and forgot I was holding so I hung up. Tried calling back a different day/time since then and didn't get an answer even though online said they were open. Thought about just walking up in person to ask my questions but if this is how they normally work with the callers, I don't know that I'd want to switch to here anymore. Maybe they are good once you get in the door, but it feels difficult to get info about them over the phone. February 13 · Alix Thomsen
- Great small facility with dedicated staff. I wouldn't trust anyone else with our baby June 18 · The Great Satan
- My visit here was great. Dr. Duran was wonderful. She knew my family and I (my fur baby) were new to the area. She talked to me about the differences from where I lived and Scott as far as health and preventive care goes for my dog. The center also provided me with the closest 24/7 emergency care facility and made recommendations for grooming. Thank you for taking care of my fur babe! January 25 · Kember Switzer
