The Visiting Vet Introduce
For pet owners across Pennsylvania, ensuring their beloved companions receive compassionate and comprehensive veterinary care is a paramount concern. In the Upper Moreland area, a unique practice known as The Visiting Vet offers a distinct approach to pet health: bringing veterinary services directly to your home. While the convenience of mobile veterinary care is a primary draw, The Visiting Vet also emphasizes a commitment to reducing stress for pets and providing personalized attention in a familiar environment. For many in the Pennsylvania community, this model offers a calming alternative to traditional clinic visits, especially for anxious animals or multi-pet households.
The bond between New Jersey pet owners and their animals is profound, and when a pet is unwell or facing end-of-life decisions, the desire to provide comfort is paramount. The Visiting Vet, through its mobile service, aims to fulfill this need by offering a stress-free experience for pets right in their own homes. While one review expresses significant distress due to a missed appointment during a critical time, another highlights the core benefit: "We have two small dogs, and it's much more convenient to have the vet come to our home and treat them. They also feel more comfortable in a familiar environment while getting shots and such." This underscores the ideal experience The Visiting Vet strives to provide – a comfortable, caring, and convenient solution for various veterinary needs. The practice, run by licensed and experienced veterinarians like Dr. Michele Campellone (as mentioned on their website), emphasizes personalized recommendations, including nutritional changes, alongside necessary medications, demonstrating a holistic approach to pet wellness.
This article will provide a clear and informative overview of The Visiting Vet, detailing its approach to veterinary care, its location and service area, the comprehensive services offered, its distinguishing features, and how it aims to be a suitable and compassionate partner for pet owners throughout Pennsylvania.
The Visiting Vet operates primarily as a mobile veterinary service, with a physical address listed at 1700 Byberry Rd, Upper Moreland, PA 19040, USA. This location in Montgomery County serves as a base of operations, from which their veterinarians travel to homes throughout their service areas. For pet owners in Upper Moreland and surrounding towns in Montgomery County and potentially other parts of southeastern Pennsylvania, this means veterinary care can often come directly to you.
The advantage of a mobile service is inherent accessibility. Instead of navigating traffic, dealing with parking at a clinic, and potentially stressful car rides for your pet, the veterinary team arrives at your doorstep. This is particularly beneficial for pet owners with limited mobility, multiple pets, pets who experience severe anxiety in clinic settings, or those simply seeking the convenience of in-home care. While the physical address is in Upper Moreland, their service extends across a broader geographic region within Montgomery County and nearby areas of Pennsylvania. We recommend contacting them directly to confirm if your specific location falls within their house call service radius. The ability to avoid a crowded waiting room and have your pet treated in the familiar comforts of their own home significantly enhances the accessibility of quality veterinary care for many Pennsylvania residents.
The Visiting Vet offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services, primarily delivered through their convenient house call model, for a variety of companion animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, and select pocket pets. Their services aim to cover routine, preventative, and some urgent care needs.
- Routine Wellness Exams: Comprehensive head-to-tail physical examinations conducted in the comfort of your home, allowing the vet to observe your pet in their natural environment.
- Vaccinations: Administration of core and lifestyle-appropriate vaccines for dogs, cats, and potentially other pets, to protect against common diseases.
- Preventative Care: Includes discussions on ongoing nutrition, parasite prevention (flea, tick, heartworm, and intestinal parasites), and general health maintenance strategies.
- In-Home Treatment Visits: For various non-emergency medical conditions, allowing pets to be treated where they are most comfortable. This can include addressing skin issues, ear infections, minor injuries, and other common ailments.
- Geriatric Medicine: Specialized care for senior pets, focusing on quality of life assessments, mobility evaluations, pain management (e.g., for arthritis), cognitive health assessments, and nutritional therapy tailored to aging companions.
- Palliative and Hospice Care: Providing comfort-focused care for pets with terminal or age-related conditions, managing pain and symptoms to ensure dignity in their final stages of life.
- In-Home Euthanasia: A critically important and compassionate service that allows pets to pass peacefully in their familiar home environment, surrounded by their loved ones, minimizing stress during a very difficult time. They can also assist with cremation services.
- Diagnostic Screenings: Collection of samples for routine blood work (CBC, chemistry panels), urinalysis, heartworm testing, FeLV/FIV testing for cats, and other diagnostic screenings. While advanced diagnostics like digital radiology and ultrasound might require a visit to an affiliated clinic or referral, initial screenings can be done in-home.
- Microchipping: Permanent identification to increase the chances of reunification if a pet becomes lost.
- Nutritional Counseling: Recommendations for dietary changes and supplements to support overall health and address specific conditions.
- Behavioral Counseling: Advice and guidance for common behavioral issues.
- Open Hospital Policy (for affiliated clinic visits): For procedures that cannot be performed in-home or require more extensive facilities, their website indicates an "open hospital" policy at an affiliated clinic, welcoming owners to be with their animals during medical procedures, from vaccinations to complex surgeries.
- Pharmacy Services: Offering medications and prescriptions, potentially with home delivery options for convenience.
- Discounts: Providing discounted services to senior citizens and pre-approved local area rescue groups, demonstrating a commitment to accessibility and community support.
The Visiting Vet distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that are particularly appealing to pet owners in Pennsylvania.
- Convenience of In-Home Care: This is their most prominent feature. By eliminating the need for travel to a clinic, they significantly reduce stress for pets who are anxious about car rides or clinic environments. This is also a huge benefit for multi-pet households, owners with limited mobility, or those with very large or frail animals.
- Personalized and Compassionate Approach: As evidenced by a positive review, veterinarians like Dr. Campellone are praised for being "caring" and offering individualized advice, including nutritional recommendations. This personal touch, especially during sensitive moments such as end-of-life care, is a core strength. The provided review, despite its negative core, specifically mentions a "man with compassion" who helped through a "very sensitive time," highlighting individual acts of empathy.
- Comprehensive Mobile Services: The ability to perform a wide range of services, from wellness exams and vaccinations to blood draws and even in-home euthanasia, makes them a robust option for most routine and some urgent care needs without leaving home.
- Focus on Reducing Pet Stress: By treating pets in their familiar environment, The Visiting Vet actively works to minimize the anxiety commonly associated with vet visits, leading to a more comfortable experience for the animal.
- Experienced Veterinarians: The practice highlights experienced veterinarians, ensuring that pets receive knowledgeable and professional care.
- Open Hospital Policy for Procedures: For more involved procedures that require a clinic setting (like surgeries), their affiliated clinics' "open hospital" policy, allowing owners to be present, is a rare and comforting feature for many pet parents.
- Support for Senior Pets and End-of-Life Care: Their dedicated services for geriatric pets and compassionate in-home euthanasia are invaluable for owners facing difficult decisions, allowing a peaceful passing in a beloved environment.
- Community Discounts: Offering discounts for senior citizens and local rescue groups demonstrates a commitment to giving back to the Pennsylvania community and making veterinary care more accessible.

The Visiting Vet Reviews
I would strongly advise against using this vet. We scheduled an at-home appointment to say goodbye to our beloved dog, and they never called or showed up. Days later, we still hadn’t received any follow-up or apology. During such an emotional and difficult time, their lack of communication and accountability only added to our pain. We were forced to find another vet the next day, leaving our dog to suffer unnecessarily through another night. Their behavior wasn’t just unprofessional — it was shockingly insensitive and neglectful.
Apr 13, 2025 · Charlotte BarcoskiWe have two small dogs, and it's much more convenient to have the vet come to our home and treat them. They also feel more comfortable in a familiar environment while getting shots and such. Dr. Campellone is caring and recommends nutritional changes in addition to any medications required. Thanks for the great care of our precious fur babies!
Apr 16, 2025 · Diane Wing (Diane Wing Author)My Cat was recently diagnosed with a tumor with a poor prognosis. my family called The visiting vet so he could pass in the comfort of our own home. Michelle and Al were professional and caring. They explained the whole process and let us spend time with our boy before and after he passed.
Jan 10, 2025 · Brittany BeechDr. Michelle and Al are excellent, top notch mobile vet. We have 2 out of 5 pets that absolutely will NOT travel well to a clinic. Her and her partner have been doing this for decades. They're extremely personable and nice, they also have a warmness about themselves. Feels very comfortable, our pets don't mind them and we've used them for the past several years.
