Their approach is characterized by detailed diagnostics and a commitment to understanding each pet's unique health needs. Here's an overview of the services you can expect:
- General Practice and Wellness: This forms the foundation of their care, including routine physical examinations, tailored vaccination protocols, parasite prevention and control, and nutritional counseling. They emphasize preventive measures to maintain long-term health.
- Urgent Care: While not a 24/7 emergency critical care facility, they offer urgent care services during their operating hours for sudden illnesses or injuries that require prompt attention but may not be life-threatening emergencies. They provide rapid assessment and treatment for conditions like severe vomiting, difficulty breathing, or minor trauma. For critical cases requiring intensive 24-hour care, they coordinate referrals to specialized emergency hospitals.
- Advanced Diagnostics: East Wind Animal Hospital utilizes state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to accurately pinpoint health issues. This includes:
- In-house Laboratory Testing: For quick and accurate results from blood tests, urinalysis, and other lab work.
- Ultrasound: Non-invasive imaging for detailed views of internal organs, aiding in the diagnosis of various conditions.
- Digital Radiography (X-rays): Providing clear images for assessing bones, organs, and identifying foreign bodies.
- Additional Diagnostics: Such as blood pressure measurement, skin and ear cytologies, and fine needle aspirates for thorough evaluation.
- Surgical Services: Performing a range of surgical procedures with careful consideration for the pet's comfort, as demonstrated by the punch biopsies performed on Deuce without anesthesia. They aim for the least invasive and least stressful approach possible.
- Dental Care: Comprehensive dental examinations and procedures to maintain optimal oral health, which is crucial for overall pet well-being.
- Pain Management: Developing strategies to manage both acute and chronic pain, ensuring pets remain comfortable.
- Microchipping: Offering permanent identification to help reunite lost pets with their families.
- Referral Coordination: Collaborating closely with clients and local specialists to ensure pets receive any additional specialized care they may need beyond the scope of their services, such as intensive critical care.
East Wind Animal Hospital truly shines through its distinctive features and highlights, many of which are passionately articulated in the glowing testimonials from grateful pet owners. These attributes set them apart and explain why they are so highly recommended within the Pennsylvania community.
- Exceptional Handling of Fearful Pets: This is a major highlight. Dr. Stevko's unparalleled ability to build trust and make highly fearful dogs, like the 80-pound pitbull Deuce, comfortable enough for thorough examinations and even minor surgical procedures without sedation is truly remarkable. This is a game-changer for owners whose pets are often turned away or require anesthesia at other clinics.
- Thoroughness in Examination: The discovery of "HIDDEN" moles under Deuce's fur demonstrates an extraordinary level of detail and commitment to a comprehensive physical examination, ensuring no stone is left unturned in assessing a pet's health.
- Calm and Warm Demeanor: Dr. Stevko's "warm heart and a calm demeanor" are repeatedly praised for making animals calmer, fostering a positive and reassuring environment that benefits anxious pets and their owners alike.
- Knowledgeable and Responsive Staff: The entire team, from the front desk (Molly) to the vet techs and Dr. Kristy, is lauded for being "super knowledgeable" and patiently answering "a million" questions, providing clarity and confidence to pet parents.
- Competence in Diagnosis and Treatment: Dr. Kristy's ability to accurately identify sisal in Hermie the cat's X-ray and confidently guide the owner through the natural passage of the material, potentially avoiding endoscopy or more invasive procedures, showcases high-level diagnostic skill and effective treatment planning.
- Client-Centered Approach: The staff "takes the extra mile to make sure that your pets are comfortable and getting the care that they need," and the "facility itself is warm and welcoming." This commitment to a positive experience for both pet and owner is consistently highlighted.
- Positive Pet Response: The astonishing detail that Deuce, a previously fearful dog, "walked back up to her and gave her kisses at the end" after a procedure, instead of running for the door, is perhaps the most powerful testament to the unique and effective approach of East Wind Animal Hospital.

East Wind Animal Hospital Reviews
This is the best vet that my dog has ever been to in 8 years and I can’t recommend them enough. Most veterinarians turn my dog Deuce away or tell me he needs to be put under anesthesia to be examined because he’s so fearful of the vet and at that, he’s a fearful 80 pound pitbull. A veterinarian hasn’t thoroughly examined him in years until I took him to Dr. Stevko. She’s so great with Deuce, formed trust with him fast, and made him comfortable despite his fear. She made examining him like a breeze and it gives me so much relief that my baby is finally in great hands and getting the best high quality care. She has a warm heart and a calm demeanor that makes animals calmer too. She found moles on his back that were HIDDEN under his fur, that’s how thorough she is. I came back in to get them punch biopsied and Dr. Stevko took all of them off without a problem, he even got stitches without needing to be put under anesthesia! Mind you, the last place and past places i’ve taken him to wouldn’t even do regular blood work for him without being sedated, so having this bigger procedure done on him in multiple spots easily was such a relief and a surprise. He even walked back up to her and gave her kisses at the end! Usually my dog just runs straight for the door and wants nothing more to do with it lol. Her and her staff are also super knowledgeable and answer every question you have about your pet, I asked a million lol. The facility itself is warm and welcoming and the entire staff really takes the extra mile to make sure that your pets are comfortable and getting the care that they need. I will continue going here and only here and I will only recommend them! You really will get the best care for your fur babies at this great place, I only wish they were here years ago!
Apr 18, 2025 · Chloe boldenI am so impressed by East Wind and am forever grateful! My cat Hermie became very sick, vomiting, dry gagging, and fever. Dr. Kristy and the entire staff gave exceptional care. Herman had ingested sisal from a frayed scratch pad. I did not see him doing this! Thank God for East Wind's competence. Dr. Kristy showed me what she saw on the Xray and felt it was "fabric'y in nature" - not metal. She was excellent! She provided prompt steroid, hydration, nausea med and follow up diagnostics next day. I believe her competence helped me avoid endoscopy or worse...he managed to pass the mystery material naturally, as she assured me once we saw it move along to his colon. Please if you read this, WATCH to ensure your cats do not chew on sisal. Get rid of anything frayed. I highly recommend East Wind Willow Grove. From the front desk (Molly) to the vet techs, they were all smart and compassionate. Excellent care!
Mar 28, 2025 · jennifer neasI can’t say enough great things about East Wind Animal Hospital. From my first visit, to my fur baby’s last day, EVERYONE treated us with the utmost care, respect, and understanding. I only wish, my 16 yo cat has been in their care longer. On my fur baby’s last day, they made sure we were as comfortable as we could be. They explained the process thoroughly, and even honored my request to have it done outside. The weather was beautiful on this particular day, and I wanted my cat’s last memory of us to be outside in the sun, with me holding him.Thank you to the entire staff of East Wind. You made a difficult situation manageable with your compassion and understanding.
Mar 14, 2025 · Maria-Rocel TiczonWe went to East Wind for bloodwork and the Blue Pearl on Ridge Ave for an Ultra Sound. We had a much better , friendlier experience at Blue Pearl. The Vet answered all our questions about our cat . East Wind was extremely vague .The front desk lady at East Wind was unfriendly. Blue Pearl front desk was very sweet. We need nurturing when worried about our furry friends and Blue Pearl does that well!!Our bill at East Wind was 750 and 57 cents. I took my cat out to the car while my husband paid cash. He came running out to the car and asked " do you have 57 cents?"
