Veterinarian, Animal hospital ★4.0

Do not take your cat to this animal hospital on Saturday if they have to have surgery. Do yourself, and your cat, a favor and find a facility that’s open on Sundays. I recently brought my cat to this animal hospital, and while things started off on a positive note, the experience quickly became frustrating and emotionally exhausting. When I first dropped off my cat, the staff came across as kind and understanding. The vet tech even helped call around to locate a 24-hour facility for post-surgery care, which I truly appreciated—especially since they had explained that the hospital is closed on Sundays and no staff would be available to monitor the animals, even after surgery. I was understandably concerned about my cat’s condition and what would happen without proper aftercare. Despite these concerns, I ultimately decided to proceed with having my cat treated at this facility due to his condition. As I did not have time to drive to another facility or find other options. However, when I came back to pick up my cat after surgery, everything changed. I walked in and quietly stated to the front desk receptionist I was here to pick up my cat, due to the fact I’ve been crying quite a bit due to the stress. The receptionist snapped at me with, “You’re going to have to speak up,.. changes her words and says “what..? in a rude, dismissive tone. I was visibly upset, and instead of offering any kindness or support, the staff just stared at me with passive-aggressive energy. Not one person checked in with me emotionally or tried to ease the situation, they all just stared at me.What made it worse was the total breakdown in communication. Despite the earlier staff member helping me find another hospital, when I arrived to pick him up, no one seemed to know what was going on. They kept saying things like, “She doesn’t know where she’s going,” referring to me, even though I was just following the plan I was given; and had showed up to transport my cat to the 24 hour facility like they wanted me to. I felt embarrassed and unsupported during a really vulnerable moment. Then, as I walked out — carrying my cat, who still had two catheters in his legs and was clearly not stable from the medicine given — no one offered to help me to the car. No goodbye, no “take care,” no “good luck,” nothing. Just silence and stares. I had to drive 35 minutes away to another facility, emotionally overwhelmed and paying even more money, all because they aren’t open on Sundays due to staffing.I understand this is a high-stress field, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of compassion I experienced. The way I was treated did not feel normal or acceptable. When people come in worried about their pets, they deserve better—at the very least, basic human kindness. Especially when a client has just paid $900 and is then informed they’ll need to pay an additional $2,200 for a 24-hour facility. On top of that, we as clients are expected to transport our pets—still hooked up to medical equipment—to that facility ourselves. In my opinion, that does not seem safe or appropriate.Overall, my cat and I ended up far more stressed than when we initially came in—something I never expected when seeking care. - Madison Euler
