For pet owners across Virginia, especially those in the Lynchburg area, knowing where to turn when your beloved companion needs prompt medical attention, but it's not a full-blown emergency, can be a challenge. Urgent Care by Pawprints aims to fill this crucial gap, offering a specialized veterinary clinic dedicated to immediate, walk-in care for conditions that can't wait for a regular appointment but don't require the intensive resources of an emergency hospital. This innovative approach provides a much-needed service for Virginia pet parents seeking timely and compassionate veterinary attention.
Urgent Care by Pawprints is designed to provide a timely and efficient experience for pets with non-life-threatening ailments. They understand that when your pet is unwell, you want answers and treatment quickly, without the potentially high costs and longer waits often associated with traditional emergency clinics. For residents of Lynchburg and the surrounding areas, including Madison Heights, this clinic offers a valuable resource, focusing on quick assessments, diagnosis, and treatment options to get your pet feeling better as soon as possible.
Urgent Care by Pawprints is conveniently located at 1001 Creekside Ln, Lynchburg, VA 24502, USA. This accessible location places it within easy reach for pet owners throughout Lynchburg and the surrounding Virginia communities, including Campbell County and Lynchburg City County. Creekside Lane is typically straightforward to navigate, making the clinic an easy destination during times of pet distress.
As an urgent care facility, they operate on a walk-in basis, which means appointments are not typically required. This structure aims to provide immediate attention, though wait times can vary depending on the clinic's busyness. Their stated hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 9 PM, and Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, which offers extended evening hours compared to many regular veterinary offices, especially Monday-Thursday. Ample parking is generally available, contributing to a smoother arrival process for anxious pets and their owners. This focus on accessibility is a key aspect of their mission to serve the Virginia pet community.
Urgent Care by Pawprints specializes in providing prompt medical attention for non-life-threatening conditions in cats and dogs. Their services are designed to address a variety of common ailments that require immediate, but not critical, intervention.
- Minor Injuries and Wounds: Including cuts, scrapes, minor lacerations, and animal attack wounds (as experienced by a client whose dog was attacked). They can clean, bandage, and suture as needed.
- Gastrointestinal Issues: Such as recurrent vomiting or diarrhea, addressing dehydration and providing appropriate medication.
- Urinary Issues: Assessing and treating conditions like suspected UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections), which can cause significant discomfort.
- Allergic Reactions: Providing relief for skin allergies, itching, rashes, hot spots, insect bites, and stings.
- Respiratory Symptoms: Addressing coughing and sneezing that might indicate upper respiratory infections or other concerns.
- Pain Management for Non-Critical Conditions: Evaluating and providing initial relief for limping, back pain, or general discomfort.
- Ear Infections: Diagnosing and treating ear discomfort, discharge, and infections.
- Not Eating or Drinking: Assessing why a pet might be refusing food or water and initiating appropriate treatment.
- Abscesses: Diagnosing and treating abscesses to prevent further complications.
- General Assessments for Sudden Changes: Evaluating sudden lethargy or other concerning behavioral changes that arise quickly.
- Diagnostic Tests: Including blood work and other rapid diagnostics to inform treatment decisions on the spot.
- Medication and Treatment Plans: Administering necessary medications and developing clear treatment plans for home care, often with an online pharmacy available for convenience.
It is important to note that while they handle urgent situations, conditions like severe bleeding, difficulty breathing, seizures, ingestion of toxic substances, major trauma, or conditions requiring overnight monitoring or extensive surgery would typically be referred to a full emergency veterinary hospital.
Urgent Care by Pawprints aims to stand out through its unique approach to veterinary services, focusing on efficiency and compassion for urgent needs.
- Dedicated Urgent Care Focus: They specialize in the "urgent care" niche, bridging the gap between routine vet visits and full-blown emergency hospitals, which is a much-needed service in many communities.
- Prompt Rooming for Urgent Cases: Clients have noted being placed in a room immediately upon arrival, especially for urgent situations like a dog attack, indicating efficient triage.
- Friendly and Knowledgeable Staff: The vet techs are praised for being highly informative and friendly, making pet owners feel at ease and well-informed about treatment options.
- Compassionate Veterinarians: Vets are described as "lovely" and considerate, particularly towards pets with anxiety or fear, such as a reactionary dog that was able to doze off during a visit.
- Transparent Treatment Options and Pricing: Clients appreciate being offered various treatment options and clear pricing, allowing them to choose what best fits their pet's needs and their budget.
- Walk-in Availability: The clinic's walk-in model is a significant highlight for pet owners who need immediate attention for their pets without a prior appointment.
However, some potential areas for improvement or aspects for Virginia pet owners to consider have also been highlighted. One review indicated significant frustration with the clinic's strict adherence to closing times, where a cat with a suspected UTI was turned away 12 minutes before closing because "lab results take 15 minutes." This experience suggests that while they aim to be urgent care, their strict closing policy might not always align with the immediate needs implied by "urgent care" for conditions that arise close to closing. The reviewer also noted that current hours (at the time of their visit) were similar to regular vets, questioning the "urgent care" designation, though the website now lists extended evening hours (until 9 PM Mon-Thu), which is a positive development. They advised confirming current hours and policies, especially for late-day arrivals.

Urgent Care by Pawprints Reviews
We went to Pawprints today after our dog was attacked by another dog. They put us in a room immediately, and the wait wasn’t too long even tho they said they were busy. The vet tech was very friendly and helpful (maybe more informative than any vet tech I’ve ever met!), and the vet herself was lovely. I was pleased with the price and the way they offered us treatment options so we could pick what was best for our dog. And they were very considerate of her reactionary fears - she fell asleep! That might have just been the adrenaline wearing off, but it’s the first time she’s ever dozed at a vet’s office. We highly recommend them in an emergency!
May 02, 2025 · Jess ViceI just tried to take my cat to be seen, I don’t get off work until 5pm and I live in Madison Heights, my normal vets office is closed on Wednesdays. As soon as I got off we put our cat in the carrier and headed this way. We made it to their office at 5:40, stood in line for a couple minutes and then I told the lady up front that I thought my cat might have a UTI and asked if they could see him. She told me she had to go ask one of the Vets but she wasn’t sure because they closed in 12 minutes. She left and then returned and said no that no one could stay to see him because lab results take 15 minutes. I cannot believe the lack of concern. I hope I never have to come back here again.Urgent care should simply be that, urgent care, walk ins welcome up until closing time. Another gentleman behind the desk told me I could be there at 9am to be seen and then he told me about the emergency clinic. I have to work 8-5 again tomorrow and am not able to get off work to do it and the emergency clinic is super expensive. He said next week the hours change so that they are open until 9, which is the way it should have always been. Why have an urgent care place that has the same hours as all the other vets, not helpful. But I am still in shock that no one could stay a couple minutes over to examine my cat real quick. Vets should care enough to not turn an animal away over a couple minutes. They could at least have checked his vitals to make sure it’s not a medical emergency, but they didn’t care enough to do that.
Mar 19, 2025 · Christy SA great place to take your animal to without an appointment. Clean space, new decor and friendly staff who give your animal the care they deserve.
May 06, 2025 · Jason BizierHad a great experience here with our cat that had his tail slammed in a door (by the force of wind, very hard). They got him cleaned up and stitched up quickly and gave us very detailed information about his situation and recovery and what to look out for. I am very grateful they could help us, and if we have an emergency going forward, we won't hesitate to come here.
Apr 03, 2025 · Fenix ShawI have been in the unfortunate position to have to take our elderly cat (Pumpkin) in for treatment two times over the past month. Both times we were greeted by the pleasant office staff, and processed quickly to the nicely spread out waiting area.Because this urgent care center, like all urgent care centers is first come first serve, no appointments, so I expected fully to wait my turn. Thankfully, both times I went, there was only one other animal needing attention before mine. We were so grateful for that! I’m sure there are times they are very busy, and other times not so much, so you have to go expecting to wait your turn.We were taken back to a exam room, seen immediately by an extremely experienced veterinarian technician who was very confident i. handling our animal, and we had no reservations at all about her taking him back for a weight and temperature, giving antibiotics etc. During our two visits, we saw two different veterinarians, and both were absolutely wonderful. They were compassionate, and thorough.I don’t know if everyone understands how lucky we are to have such a qualified urgent care center right here in Lynchburg, who will see sick animals during the week without an appointment, but our family sure does! I feel incredibly blessed to have their service and I am sure we will be needing it again in the near future.Highly recommend!
