Public feedback for VCA North Rockville Animal Hospital presents a mixed picture, highlighting some aspects that potential clients in Maryland might consider:
- Comprehensive Service Offerings: The hospital provides a wide array of veterinary services, from wellness and preventive care to advanced dental work, diagnostics, and surgery. This broad spectrum of care is a significant advantage for pet owners seeking a single facility for multiple needs. The availability of services like acupuncture also points to diverse treatment options.
- Affiliation with VCA Network: Being part of the VCA Animal Hospitals network means access to a larger pool of resources, including a collective knowledge base of over 4,000 veterinarians and potential referrals to specialized VCA facilities for advanced medical needs like orthopedic surgery or oncology. This network can be beneficial for pets requiring highly specialized or advanced care beyond general practice.
However, it's also important to note concerns raised by some clients:
- Scheduling and Communication Issues: Several reviews mention significant difficulties with appointment scheduling, including incorrect times being given over the phone and a lack of proper confirmation or notification, leading to missed appointments and inconvenience for pet owners.
- Concerns about Diagnostic Thoroughness and Cost: One detailed review indicates a situation where a severe and long-standing condition (inflammatory bowel disease due to food allergies, exacerbated by vitamin deficiencies) was allegedly not diagnosed promptly or thoroughly, leading to prolonged suffering for the pet and significant expenses (over $13,000) for later specialist care that might have been mitigated with earlier, more comprehensive testing. This suggests potential issues with initial diagnostic diligence and the associated financial impact on pet owners.
- Perceived Lack of Empathy/Professionalism: Some accounts describe instances where staff members were perceived as being unsympathetic or abrasive, particularly during stressful times for pet owners dealing with sick animals. This includes feeling like an "inconvenience" and experiencing a lack of willingness to provide simple assistance.
- General Concerns about VCA Network Pricing: Some public comments found online outside of specific reviews for this location suggest that VCA clinics generally may be perceived as "criminally expensive" by some clients, potentially impacting affordability and access to care for certain procedures.

VCA North Rockville Animal Hospital Reviews
I do not recommend this place due to their terrible service.Twice now, I have called to schedule an appointment for my dog, and both times, they told me one time over the phone but failed to send any confirmation or notification. Without written proof of my appointment time, I took time off work and drove all the way there, only to be told that I had missed my appointment—because they had scheduled it for a different time.My time is valuable, and I cannot afford to take off work just to be told I have to reschedule due to their mistake. The first time this happened, I let it go, but now it has happened again, and I know for a fact that I was given the wrong time.Their customer service is completely unreliable. They typically send appointment confirmations, but on both of these occasions, they did not—likely because the person scheduling already knew they had made a mistake. This level of disorganization is unacceptable.
Mar 11, 2025 · Vanessa BarataThis is very difficult to write because my family has history here and I really tried to give the benefit of the doubt but I feel the need to speak up now that we are no longer going to this facility. One of my dogs began to experience what seemed to be food allergy symptoms - I do not like to rely on Google or self-diagnose anything, so I had immediately brought it up as a concern. The doctor at the time was very reluctant and seemed to think this was no big deal. My dog then began to refuse eating all together, she was vomiting multiple times a day and had diarrhea on a daily basis for months at this point, and they were giving us medication to help the nausea, but at this point I could tell the doctor was visibly upset with me due to the fact of me calling every day and my dog's health rapidly declining in a short time. I recall one time going to the office because I was so desperate for help and medication, I know they are constantly seeing patients and they are busy all the time, but I was made to feel like the biggest inconvenience, and I remember a specific technician making me feel terrible (I do not remember this technician's name, but there was not her first time being a bit abrasive). We finally got a referral to internal medicine at Blue Pearl, where they immediately knew that something was very wrong and eventually performed surgery. Turns out I was right to begin with, my dog has inflammatory bowel disease caused by food allergies. It was also notated that my dog was severely deficient in both vitamins D and B12; both of which contributed to her issues and should have been tested at the beginning of her symptoms. All of this lead to $13,000+.All of this eventually led to us choosing to go to another facility for our pets care that is also a great deal more affordable since this whole ordeal left us in a large amount of debt and could have potentially been avoided to the extent it got to if concerns had been taken more seriously from the beginning.
Feb 03, 2025 · Samantha ChurchI have been coming to this place to take my two puppies, Choco and Latte, to the vet for almost the last 3 years. I have had a very good experience with this VCA, this VCA was recommended by my friend Victoria, (Lily🐶)'s mother, who has been coming here for many years. I really love the ease of being able to ask questions over the phone, being able to have an appointment the same day or the next day (not like in the banfields that take 1 month or more for an appointment) My dogs are a little nervous when it's time to go to the vet but the staff at this place is fantastic, they greet my dogs as if they were their own dogs, in March 2024 VCA did the dental cleaning with anesthesia for my two dogs, I was super nervous because I had never had this experience with this VCA about dental cleaning with anesthesia, but it was fabulous, my dogs' teeth were super clean, my dogs came out calm after their dental cleaning. I really recommend this VCA to anyone who wants to take their dog to the vet, the ladies at the front desk are super friendly, the same for the nurses and doctors. I really like the patience and professionalism of the doctors, who are honest and care about my dogs, which I like a lot. Thank you VCA for treating Choco & Latte well.
Jul 13, 2024 · Juan E Montenegro PThis location used to be my favorite spot to take my dog. Not sure if management changed lately but the service I’ve received has completely changed. This location always over charges for everything down to exams, vaccinations, etc. The vets seem to want to push us to spend as much money as possible there and don’t prioritize what’s best for my dog. They make exorbitant recommendations and try to make a buck out of us wherever they can. Even when I just went for a simple rabies vaccination, they charged me for an exam fee when he was just seen by them a few months ago. I went here years ago for the same vaccination and last time they only charged me a technician fee. Will be looking for a new vet asap.
