VCA Veterinary Care Animal Hospital and Referral Center Introduce
For pet owners in Albuquerque and the wider New Mexico community, having access to a high-quality veterinary facility that can handle everything from routine check-ups to complex medical issues is essential. VCA Veterinary Care Animal Hospital and Referral Center has established itself as a leading institution in the region, offering a unique combination of general practice, emergency care, and specialty services all under one roof. This comprehensive article aims to provide local residents with a detailed overview of what makes this hospital a reliable and trusted partner in their pet's health journey. From its dedicated team of professionals to its advanced capabilities, VCA Veterinary Care is a valuable resource for anyone who considers their pet to be a cherished member of the family.
The hospital's dual function as a general practice and a referral center means it is uniquely equipped to handle a wide range of needs. For everyday pet health, the general practice team is there for everything from wellness exams and vaccinations to addressing common concerns. However, what truly sets this VCA location apart is its referral center, which allows local veterinarians to send pets with more complicated conditions to a team of specialists. This integrated approach ensures continuity of care and access to a higher level of medical expertise when it is most needed. The hospital’s team includes experts in various fields, such as oncology, as noted by a client who had a fantastic experience with Dr. Schrempp when her dog was diagnosed with TCC. The doctor and her team provided thorough, clear, and compassionate guidance, which resulted in a much longer and better quality of life for her pet than she had initially expected. This level of specialized care and communication is a hallmark of the VCA experience.
The hospital is also a critical resource for travelers and those who find themselves in an unexpected emergency. One customer, traveling from Los Angeles to Nashville, shared a story of how the clinic came to his rescue when his dog developed a serious lesion. Despite it being the 3rd of July, a busy holiday, the clinic was able to treat his dog efficiently and at a reasonable price, after three other vets had turned him away. This demonstrates a deep-seated commitment to helping animals in need, regardless of the circumstances, and highlights the clinic’s role as an essential service for the community and those passing through.

VCA Veterinary Care Animal Hospital and Referral Center Reviews
They helped a lot with my K9. We are traveling from LA to Nashville, and he had a bad lesion. It was infected. They treated him well; and it wasn’t that bad of a price. And it was only 3 hour wait on 3rd of July.Three other vets could not treat him. They told me to go to VCA on Holly.
Jul 04, 2025 · T H (H)I had great care there with Dr Schrempp when my dog, Mimi, was diagnosed with TCC. My dog fortunately lived for another two years prior to her passing and I am so so grateful to have seen the team there. I remember that all my options were thoroughly discussed with me and even sent via email for me to review. I ultimately chose to just put her on NSAIDs and came every three to six months for follow-ups and bloodwork. I’m so extremely happy with her care there and never expected her to live more than 3-6 months after her diagnosis. Although I know it’s different for every pet and I’ve only had experience with oncology, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring any of my pets here. Thank you and cheers!
Apr 28, 2025 · HMy family recent visited the location at 8850 Holly because our Mini-Schnauzer suddenly fell ill and unfortunately we had to say good bye. Luckily, we had the good fortunate of dealing with Dr. Holguin, Sarah and Leixi who made the circumstances much more bearable thanks to their empathy and professionalism displayed during the process. These ladies are truly assets to VCA and the veterinary community as a whole. Thank you from Coco's family and God Bless each of you.VCA, please extend this message to them.
Jun 20, 2025 · nmelkhunter1I can’t say enough about the incredible care we received from VCA and especially from Dr. Kitchell. When our beloved dog was diagnosed with an aggressive and untreatable cancer, we were heartbroken. But Dr. Kitchell went above and beyond—not only helping to slow the growth of the tumor and give us more precious time with her, but also ensuring she remained comfortable, happy, and full of life during those extra months we never expected to have. What truly sets Dr. Kitchell apart is her deep dedication—not just to our dog, but to advancing care for others. She took the time to research this rare tumor, collaborated with numerous colleagues, and worked to better understand it in hopes of helping other dogs in the future. That kind of compassion, persistence, and heart is something we will never forget. Thanks to Dr. Kitchell and the team at VCA, our dog’s final chapter was filled with love, dignity, and extra time we will always cherish. We are forever grateful.
Apr 23, 2025 · Mike AndersonI went to this location to better understand their experience with large breed dogs. Seemed like a professional establishment so I was wondering if they would be a good fit to provide ongoing care for my dog. Unfortunately, I was greeted by the most condescending person I've met in a long time. I don't even know how it's possible to be disrespectful in a response to a question, but this staff person pulled it off. I spoke to the supervisor, so she is aware of who the interaction was with and her co-worker did answer my questions. I can't say I will never go back to that place because they do offer unique services that in my opinion bring value, but I can say it won't be soon.
