Do not bring your dog here I made an appointment for 11 and I did not have my dog seen until 12 which isn’t a big deal if the workers weren’t taking breaks left and right. I wanted him to get all his shots and they showed me the price and said do you want him to also get more heart worm medicine wnd I said yes and they said sign here but didn’t give me the price. Come to find out they charged me double the cost of the appointment and didn’t disclose it to me it would be that much. When I went to try and return the medicine and just pay for the appointment I was told that I signed for it and I have to pay it even when explaining to them that they never told me the price and the thing I signed didn’t tell me what I’m signing for just had a box on a tablet to sign. Avoid this place at all costs. - Jackson Norton

Vetco Vaccination Clinic specializes in preventative care services for dogs and cats, focusing on essential health measures to protect pets from common diseases and parasites. Their typical service offerings are streamlined to provide efficient and accessible care. Based on general information about Vetco Vaccination Clinics and common preventative veterinary services, their offerings generally include:

  • Core Vaccinations for Dogs: Including Rabies, Distemper & Parvo (often in a 5-in-1 combination like DHPP), Leptospirosis, Bordetella (Kennel Cough), and Lyme disease vaccines. They may offer various package options (e.g., Puppy Start, Dog Shield) that combine these vaccinations.
  • Core Vaccinations for Cats: Including Rabies, Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia (often in a 3-in-1 combination like FVRCP), and Feline Leukemia (FeLV) vaccines. Similar to dogs, they may offer Kitten Start or Cat Shield packages.
  • Microchipping: Providing permanent identification for pets, significantly increasing the chances of reunification if they ever become lost.
  • Heartworm Prevention and Testing: Offering tests for heartworm disease and providing prescription preventative medications to protect against this serious condition.
  • Flea and Tick Prevention: Dispensing various prescription flea and tick control products to protect pets from external parasites.
  • Fecal Testing: To detect intestinal parasites.
  • Deworming: Administering medication to treat common roundworms and hookworms.
  • Consultation and Examination: While focused on preventative care, vaccinations are typically accompanied by a brief consultation and examination with a licensed veterinarian to ensure the pet is healthy enough for vaccination and to address basic wellness concerns.
  • Prescription Refills: For certain preventative medications like heartworm and flea/tick control, they may facilitate prescription refills.

It's important to note that Vetco Vaccination Clinics generally do not provide comprehensive veterinary services such as surgeries, dental cleanings, extensive diagnostics, or care for sick/injured pets beyond initial assessment. Their model is specifically designed for preventative wellness.

Vetco Vaccination Clinic, particularly in Kernersville, presents itself with several operational features that are intended to benefit pet owners seeking specific types of veterinary care.

  • Focus on Preventative Care: Their primary focus is on vaccinations, microchipping, and parasite prevention. This specialization allows for a streamlined service model for these essential health needs.
  • Affordable Pricing: These clinics generally aim to offer competitive and transparent pricing for their services, making preventative care more accessible to a broader range of pet owners in North Carolina.
  • No Exam Fees (for some services): For certain preventative services, Vetco clinics may advertise no additional exam fees, which can contribute to overall cost savings for pet owners who just need vaccinations or parasite control.
  • Convenient Location within Retail Stores: Vetco clinics are often located inside Petco stores, providing a familiar and accessible environment for pet owners already visiting for pet supplies.
  • Walk-in and Appointment Options: While some operate on a walk-in basis, many Vetco clinics now offer appointment scheduling, which can reduce wait times and provide more predictability for pet owners.
  • Accessibility to Essential Medications: They provide access to prescription flea, tick, and heartworm prevention medications directly at the clinic.
  • Digital Health Records: After a visit, pet owners typically receive their pet's medical documents via email, offering convenient access to vaccination records and other important information.

However, it's also important for pet owners to be aware of potential challenges based on feedback:

  • Potential for Wait Times: Despite appointments, some clinics may experience delays, leading to longer wait times, as indicated in a customer review where an 11 AM appointment wasn't seen until 12 PM.
  • Transparency in Pricing: There have been instances where customers reported a lack of clear price disclosure for additional services or medications, leading to unexpected costs upon checkout. It's crucial for pet owners to explicitly confirm all costs before agreeing to services or signing documents, especially when adding on items like heartworm medicine.
  • Limited Scope of Services: As a vaccination clinic, they do not offer comprehensive veterinary services like surgeries, extensive diagnostics for illnesses, or emergency care for seriously ill or injured pets. Pet owners with complex health concerns will need a full-service veterinary hospital.
