Veterinary Emergency Group Introduce
In the unpredictable world of pet ownership, emergencies can strike at any moment, often outside of regular clinic hours. For New York City pet parents, knowing where to turn during these critical times is paramount. The Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) at 1215 2nd Ave in Manhattan stands as a revolutionary and highly trusted resource, offering 24/7 emergency and urgent veterinary care. VEG is not just another animal hospital; it's a facility built on a foundation of compassion, transparency, and a deeply pet-parent-centric approach. They understand the immense stress and heartache that can accompany a pet emergency, and they've designed their entire operation to minimize anxiety for both pets and their human companions. From the moment you walk through their doors, their goal is to provide immediate, expert care while allowing you to remain involved in every step of your pet's journey. This innovative philosophy, coupled with a team of highly skilled and empathetic professionals, makes VEG an indispensable partner for New York locals facing their pets' most challenging health moments. This article will explore the unique features and compassionate services that set VEG apart in the New York City veterinary landscape.
The Veterinary Emergency Group's Upper East Side location at 1215 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10065, USA, is strategically positioned to serve a wide range of New York City residents. Situated between 63rd and 64th Streets, this facility is easily accessible from various neighborhoods across Manhattan, including the Upper East Side, East Harlem, Midtown East, and even Long Island City, Queens. In a city where quick transport is crucial during an emergency, VEG's central location is a significant advantage. While on-street parking in NYC can be limited, especially on Second Avenue, there are numerous parking garages available nearby, which can be invaluable when rushing a distressed pet for care. The clinic operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ensuring that expert veterinary attention is always available, regardless of the time or day. This constant availability, combined with its prime location, makes VEG a readily accessible and reliable emergency care option for thousands of New York pet owners.
- 24/7 Emergency & Urgent Care: VEG specializes solely in emergency and urgent veterinary medicine, meaning they are always open and ready to treat critical cases for all kinds of pets, including dogs, cats, and even exotics.
- Immediate Veterinary Assessment: Care begins the moment you walk in the door; there's no traditional waiting room where pets are separated from their owners. You see a veterinarian immediately.
- Diagnostic Services: Equipped with advanced diagnostic tools such as in-house laboratories, digital X-rays, and ultrasound imaging to quickly determine the cause of symptoms and guide treatment.
- Emergency Surgeries: Capable of performing complex emergency surgeries for trauma, internal injuries, and other life-threatening conditions.
- Critical Care & Hospitalization: Providing intensive care and monitoring for severely ill or injured pets, with facilities designed to allow pet parents to stay by their side.
- Blood Bank: Many VEG locations, including potentially the New York one, operate or have access to a blood bank, ensuring critical blood products are available for transfusions when needed most.
- Compassionate End-of-Life Care: Offering empathetic guidance and support during the difficult decision of euthanasia, with private, comfortable rooms designed for peaceful goodbyes, and allowing owners to stay with their pet throughout the entire process.
- Consultation with a Veterinarian 24/7: Pet parents can call anytime, day or night, and speak directly with a veterinarian to get medical questions answered or determine if an emergency visit is necessary.
- Pet-Parent Focused Care: This is arguably VEG's most distinguishing feature. They actively encourage pet parents to "stay together" with their pets throughout the entire visit, from assessment to treatment and even during critical moments like euthanasia. This open and immersive environment significantly reduces stress for both pets and owners.
- Immediate Access to a Veterinarian: Unlike traditional ERs where triage can involve long waits, at VEG, care "starts the moment you walk in the door," with a vet quickly assessing your pet. This rapid response is crucial in emergency situations.
- Unparalleled Compassion and Empathy: Customer reviews consistently highlight the extraordinary kindness, thoughtfulness, and gentle approach of the entire VEG team – from front desk staff to doctors. Their ability to provide comfort during "the hardest moments" is deeply appreciated by grieving pet owners.
- Thoughtfully Designed Private Rooms: For sensitive situations, especially end-of-life care, VEG offers "beautiful—warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed" private rooms with comfortable seating, allowing families to spend as much time as needed with their pet in a peaceful atmosphere.
- Transparency and Involvement: VEG operates with an "open floor plan" and a commitment to transparency, allowing pet parents to see the life-saving work happening and participate in their pet's care as much as they desire.
- Highly Responsive and Supportive Team: Reviews commend the staff for their "sense of urgency," willingness to go "above and beyond," and their ability to be "patient with my frantic behavior," showcasing their dedication to supporting distressed pet owners.
- Comprehensive Care, Even for Exotics: VEG is equipped to handle emergencies for a wide range of animals, not just dogs and cats, but also avians and exotic pets, demonstrating their diverse expertise.

Mar 28, 2025 · Daniel floReview for Veterinary Emergency GroupI cannot recommend Veterinary Emergency Group enough. During one of the hardest moments of my life, they provided care, comfort, and kindness beyond what I could have imagined. From the moment I walked in with my beloved Anabel, they made sure we were both comfortable. They had me sit on a cozy sofa, and within minutes, a nurse came to check Anabel’s weight and temperature. Shortly after, the doctor came to assess her and discuss my options. The private room they took us to was beautiful—warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed. There was a comfortable sofa with pillows, another seating area, and a peaceful atmosphere that made an unbearable moment just a little more bearable. The doctor walked me through everything with so much compassion, and when it became clear that Anabel was suffering, they assured me that I could take as much time as I needed with her. They gave me space, never rushing me, and let me be with Anabel through every step of the process. When I was ready, they placed the catheter and again told me to take my time. When I finally pressed the button to signal I was ready, the doctor returned and gently administered the euthanasia while I held Anabel in my arms, looking into her eyes, singing to her, and telling her how much I loved her. Even after, they let me stay with her for as long as I needed, allowing me to turn off the main light and sit in a peaceful dim glow with her. This experience, as heartbreaking as it was, was handled with so much care and dignity. I am forever grateful to Veterinary Emergency Group for the kindness and respect they showed both Anabel and me. If you ever find yourself in an emergency or facing an impossible decision, go here. They are truly amazing.Thank you, VEG, for making such a painful moment a little more bearable. I will never forget it.
Mar 11, 2025 · Krystal VazquezI can’t thank the team at this emergency vet enough. This was my first real pet emergency, and I was in full panic mode running out of the house with my dog. I was originally sent to a different location, but since the doctor on duty was in surgery, I ended up coming to the 2nd Ave location, and honestly, I’m so glad I did.The staff made all the difference on this visit. The girl at the front desk was so kind, patient, and understanding, which was exactly what I needed in that moment. The receptionist employee was very empathetic and helped me out so much. Codie, Dr. Kaela Toback, and Dr. Verna Serra were incredible too. You can just tell they truly care and are in this for the right reasons. They treated my dog with so much kindness and respect, and they also made sure I felt heard and reassured.I’m very grateful that this place was open when I needed it most. Having a team like this in such a stressful situation made all the difference. Thank you all so much for your kindhearted and above and beyond care for my pet. I’ll never forget how much you helped us!

Apr 05, 2025 · Melissa LopezI took my Pomsky to VEG this weekend after discovering—much to our shock—that she had swallowed a needle and was trying to pass it. Our regular vet was at capacity and couldn’t take her in, so I called this clinic in a frenzy. Though I can’t remember the name of the doctor I spoke with (thanks to my freak-out), she immediately told me to bring my pup in. I rushed over as fast as I could, and thank God I did, she couldn’t have been in better hands. The entire team, from the doctors to the nurses, was incredible. They were patient with her (she’s quite the drama queen) and carefully considered the best approach to keep her comfortable while providing top-notch care. Every step of the process was thoroughly explained, which really helped ease my nerves. After about four hours, the needle was safely removed, my pup was in the clear, and we were able to go home relieved and grateful that the worst-case scenarios had been avoided. I can’t thank the staff enough for their kindness and expertise!
