When a pet faces a sudden health crisis, knowing where to turn for immediate and compassionate care is paramount for any pet owner in California. The Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Anaheim, California, is a dedicated emergency veterinarian service and animal hospital designed to provide round-the-clock urgent care for pets. This article offers a comprehensive look at what makes VEG a trusted and invaluable resource for the community, highlighting its unique approach to emergency medicine, expert staff, and welcoming environment.
VEG operates on a philosophy that is different from a standard veterinary clinic. Their singular focus on emergencies means they are always prepared for the unexpected. They understand that a pet crisis is a family crisis, and their model is built around supporting both the animal and the owner. Unlike many emergency hospitals, VEG invites owners to be an active part of their pet's care journey. The ability to stay with your pet throughout the initial examination process provides an unparalleled level of comfort and transparency during a stressful time. This approach, combined with a highly professional and compassionate team, creates a sense of trust and security that is crucial when your pet's health is on the line. As one satisfied client noted, even when things got "chaotic," the staff remained attentive to both the patients and their owners, showcasing their deep commitment to care.

The clinic also features gender-neutral toilets, creating a safe and inclusive space for everyone. Additionally, the facility is recognized as an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space, further demonstrating their commitment to serving the diverse community of California with respect and kindness.

Focus on Patient Care over Profit: As one reviewer highlighted, the hospital prioritizes helping patients over "racking up the bill." The example of an ultrasound being part of the routine check-up, rather than an add-on charge, speaks volumes about their commitment to thorough, honest, and compassionate care.
Preparedness for Anything: The facility is praised for its organization and readiness for any situation, from sudden rushes of patients to a critical one-on-one case. They are described as being "prepared for pretty much anything."

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I am not one to normally write reviews but after my experience here, I had to. This hospital is one of the most kind, caring, and compassionate groups I have come across. I have spent most of my professional career as a vet tech, and this hospital is one of the most organized I have come across. Even when things got chaotic (rushes of patients coming in, phones ringing off the hook), someone was always watching the patients of the hospital AND the owners. My fur baby is one that can be reactive in a moments notice and due to their excellent care, patience, and attention to detail, he had an amazing visit! No rodeos when he panicked, only calm and letting him relax before trying again. A huge thank you to Dr. Reed, the amazing techs and assistants for making a stressful situation into a new saved contact for emergency situations💜The set up they have at this hospital is amazing and they really are prepared for pretty much anything. I brought my boy in for swelling in his neck and the first thing they did (after vitals and a quick feel) was an ultrasound. What amazed me was this was never added on as a charge, but considered routine for the appointment. They care more about helping their patients, your pets, more than racking up the bill! If you need through care for a situation you have no clue what to do, I cannot stress it enough, GO HERE!!!
July 14 · Lucy GallagherWhat can I say? I am so happy. I found these great people that helped me take care of my little Cockatiel. The veterinarian was so professional, so great she knew how to soothe my bird how to make him feel better. She gave me an excellent medical plan as far as what to give him (medicine ) or other available treatment. They explained what to expect and information on possibilities on how he got sick…. My experience was just amazing and comforting ….. I got there so sad worried of what was gonna happen to my bird. They were so kind to my needs to my worrying! They soothed me they made me feel so much better and I am very happy. I left with a Smile with hope that my little baby will be OK…..The place was so neat, so clean so hygiene, so professional…I was so content with the level of service and great professionalism…. This message is for the Vet “thank you so much”. Benji is doing so much better. I am just very happy in case I have any other emergency with any other pet. I know where to take them now, thank you for existing that’s all I can say thank you, thank you. 😊
August 19 · Gabriela loves GeologyFirst of allThank you Dr. Ortiz and staff.I had to take my Aussie in for a/not so major issue. Let me just say that the attention, the communication, the overall service is better than a 5star hotel. I appreciate all you do, and I know it’s one of the hardest jobs out there. I could never do what all of you do (or have to experience). I anticipated the wait, because emergencies happen and my dog was not in any distress. So I understand when a dog comes in with life/death issues, they’re called to tend to them immediately. The facility is very clean and well kept. The setup is amazing and it reminds me of the show The Pitt… I love that I can see what’s going on and gives the client a better understanding of why there are delays. More emergency vets should have this setup.Thank you! From Freddie and Freddie’s mom.
July 31 · Elizabeth ROMEROI cannot say enough good things about VEG Animal Hospital and their incredible staff. We recently brought our puppy, Tinkerbell, to VEG after a very disappointing experience at another local emergency hospital. Tinkerbell had contracted giardia and developed a severe infection on her rear, and we were desperate for real help. From the moment we arrived at VEG, the difference was night and day.The staff here truly care about your pets as family and not as dollar signs. The open format of the hospital is also a wonderful feature, allowing you to stay with your pet during treatment so you can see the care firsthand.Stephanie, in particular, has the most amazing bedside manner. She found a solution that finally started healing Tinkerbell’s major wound, and her compassion gave us so much peace of mind. All of the doctors we interacted with were knowledgeable, patient, and committed to finding a care plan that worked best for us and for Tinkerbell’s recovery. Thanks to VEG, Tinkerbell is on the mend, and we’re so grateful to have found a team of doctors and staff who are so dedicated to saving and treating pets with true compassion. We won’t be going anywhere else for emergency care in the future!
August 26 · Dara MalekiNever EVER take your parakeet/budgie to this vet. My parakeet almost died from this place and it’s a miracle she’s still alive.I showed up last week worried my bird had mites or something else. The nurses/assistants that helped me first were unbelievably nice and I respect them a lot for how they helped and handled my pet. Then came the vet. I told the vet the bird can fly then she clearly didn’t pay attention to that as the bird flew out of the cage immediately when she opened it without any caution. I then spent 5-10 minutes getting the bird back in her cage. The vet took a look at the bird and told me she thinks it could be mites or a fungal infection (literally exactly what I said) and prescribed medications for this. I asked if there is anything at home I can do to help or prevent this from happening. She straight up told me word for word “Umm I’m honestly just starting out and not too sure”. Why in any world is that acceptable to say to a patient as your prescribing them medication. She prescribes the bird a topical cream, an oral medication, and three injections of Ivermectin. The injection made me nervous as anyone can do a quick google search and see that this is a very dangerous way to give that drug to a tiny parakeet. I proceeded to be in the room for the next three hours. The assistants finally came back with the injection, which I denied at first because I was nervous to give my bird such a dangerous drug. I then asked the lady multiple times if it was safe for my bird. She said yes each time and gave me big explanations on why it is. First injection went fine. I came back a week later for her second, which was another whole ordeal I won’t get into, but about an hour or two later my bird started deteriorating quick. Could not walk, couldn’t fly, couldn’t perch without falling down. She ended up going into these coma states for minutes to hours, slept LAYING DOWN on my chest the whole night not moving. Anyone with a flying bird knows this is not at all a common thing . I couldn’t wake her up. All I could see is she had a little panting/breath going the whole night. The whole following day, she was still so wobbly, couldn’t walk or fly, completely lethargic, in and out of instant sleeps all day. And finally today she is gotten better. She fought so hard to fight off this horrible drug they gave her. I am so unbelievably mad at this vet. My little bird was fine and energetic the whole day before the injection and I really thought she was going to die in my hands that night.Overall I absolutely do not recommend taking your bird here as you might get a vet who knows little to nothing about small birds and end up prescribing poison to your very loved animal.
