★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 124 hours, actually open at 3:30 am. After two separate ‘24 hr’ hospitals being closed in Ventura was grateful they answered my call. Super friendly “yes we’re here, come right in”.Our new adopted kitten had an abscess burst at 3:00 am, crying, scared, fever, needing help right way as huge amount of pus, was worried about kitten being septic. The three person team at this hospital was on it, quick evaluation, plan shared, bill paid up-front. Two hours later minor surgery done, antibiotics shot given, sun-q fluids, kitty loopy but happy, crisis averted! Thanks team on Friday Aug 15, 2025, great service, communication and care. You’re our new vet!
August 18 · Rob WickensI am so grateful to the staff at VSEC.As soon as we walked in the staff was able to gather information and begin helping Winnie.Winnie is a rescue and can be afraid of new people, unfamiliar sounds, and unfamiliar environments. The staff took extra care to decrease her anxiety in any way they could. When we picked Winnie up I could tell Winnie had gained confidence in the environment and some of the staff.I really appreciate that they went the extra mile to help Winnie not only get treated but to trust the staff a bit more. She is back home and back to her spunky happy self!
June 24 · R LI cannot recommend highly enough board-certified veterinary surgeon extraordinaire, Dr. Jana Norris DVM DACVS, and the team at VSEC Thousand Oaks. Our precious "Ju-Ju" Tangens Once in a Blue Moon developed 2 masses on her left front and right rear legs. I was concerned as I saw the skin was thinning on the front one. Her primary care veterinarian, Dr. Robert Woods DVM CVA, shared my concern, and ran bloodwork confirming that her liver and kidney health made her a candidate for undergoing anesthesia at almost 16 years of age (DOB 7/27/2009).We were able to get in to see Dr. Norris for a surgical consult 2 days later and her surgery was done the day after the consult. A board-certified cardiologist clears the patient prior to any surgery at VSEC Thousand Oaks, which gave me peace of mind. Ju-Ju's cardiologist was Dr. Reed Nakamura DVM DACVECC DACVIM, whose name I knew because he supports the heart health of our dog fancy community by providing regular cardiology clinics.Dr. Norris keeps her patients overnight after surgery, which means they have a full veterinary emergency staff available to care for them during the first 24 hours post-op when most complications occur. The staff has been incredibly caring and responsive every step of the way from my initial phone call through post-op. Their patient-centeredness and their excellent communication protocols made me feel even more confident in the care she was receiving.Ju-Ju's tumors are what my friends and I have dubbed Mysteriomas. Dr. Norris said the only tumors she has seen in her career that resembled them were benign biliary cystadenomas, but those only exist in the liver. We wait in avid curiosity for next week's pathology report for resolution of the mystery.Ju-Ju is currently resting comfortably at home in her princess bed with her head resting on my shoulder.
April 05 · Debra StaffordI've visited VSEC on three separate occasions. Once for a major emergency for my cat, once for a minor emergency for my dog, and again for a basic request for a found animal. Each time, I was treated with courtesy, professionalism, and by a knowledgeable and caring staff. This is one of the hardest jobs that I can imagine and the staff at VSEC handle every encounter so expertly. I trust them with the emergency care of my animals when it is needed, and appreciate the support they provide to the critters of our community. The staff gives great explanation for any diagnostic and helped me make changes for my animals to improve their quality of life.
June 29 · Stephanie SemanMy poor 14 year old dog had suddenly over a week had several medical issues that caused so much suffering that could not be resolved and we had to let him go with grace. The staff was so kind and compassionate about the decision and gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye before needing to stop the pain. Thank you so much for the ease you made it for us to have to so suddenly say good night one last time to him.
