I’m extremely disappointed and heartbroken over the care my dog received at this veterinary office. Despite repeatedly expressing concerns about lumps on her body and bleeding from her mouth, we were consistently told she was “fine” and that the bleeding was just from playing with a ball. Trusting their expertise, we hesitated to seek a second opinion—something I now deeply regret.Eventually, we brought her to another veterinary clinic. Within one visit, they identified a cancerous tumor that now requires surgery. They also found that the bleeding was not from playing but from her gums growing over her teeth, causing her to bite into them—a painful condition that had been entirely overlooked and is requiring surgery as well. What makes this even more upsetting is the difference in how our dog is treated now. The new staff doesn’t muzzle her, and she’s no longer scared to walk through the door. They treat her with love, patience, and kindness—just as we do. It's devastating to think that her condition could have been addressed sooner if she had received proper care the first time.We trusted this clinic to look out for our pet’s health and well-being, and that trust was broken. I hope no one else has to go through what we’re experiencing. - Mike Fitzgerald

Services Offered

Winsted Hospital for Animals aims to provide a range of veterinary services designed to meet the diverse health needs of pets in the Connecticut community. While specific offerings can vary, a typical animal hospital like Winsted would generally provide a comprehensive suite of medical, surgical, and preventative care options.

  • Preventative and Wellness Care: This is the foundation of long-term pet health. Services typically include routine physical examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite control (fleas, ticks, heartworm), nutritional counseling, and weight management advice. Regular wellness visits are crucial for detecting potential health issues early, often before they become more serious.
  • Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose illnesses and conditions, a modern veterinary hospital employs various diagnostic tools. These commonly include in-house laboratory services for blood tests, urinalysis, and fecal exams; digital radiography (X-rays) for imaging bones and internal organs; and potentially ultrasound capabilities for more detailed soft tissue imaging.
  • Dental Care: Oral health is a significant component of a pet's overall well-being. Services would typically include professional dental cleanings (scaling and polishing under anesthesia), extractions of diseased teeth, and advice on at-home dental care to prevent periodontal disease.
  • Surgical Services: A range of surgical procedures would likely be offered, from routine spays and neuters to more complex soft tissue surgeries. The hospital would be equipped with anesthesia monitoring equipment and recovery areas to ensure the safety and comfort of pets undergoing surgery.
  • Pain Management: Recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is a crucial aspect of compassionate care. Services might include various pain relief options for acute injuries, chronic conditions like arthritis, and post-surgical recovery.
  • Microchipping: As a vital service for pet safety, microchipping helps ensure that lost pets can be reunited with their families.
  • Referral Services: For highly specialized cases that require advanced diagnostics or treatment not available on-site, a hospital would typically have relationships with veterinary specialists and referral centers, guiding pet owners to the appropriate care.

It is important for pet owners to discuss their pet's specific needs with the veterinary team at Winsted Hospital for Animals to understand the full scope of services available and how they can best support their pet's health journey.
