---Pet Supermarket offers a variety of services designed to meet the diverse needs of pet owners, going beyond just retail sales.
- Extensive Pet Supplies: They provide a wide selection of pet food (dry, wet, raw, specialized diets), treats, toys, bedding, collars, leashes, grooming tools, and health supplements for dogs, cats, birds, small animals, fish, and reptiles.
- Self-Service Pet Washing Station: A notable service is their self-service pet washing station. This facility includes multiple stations equipped with all necessary cleaning supplies, shampoos, conditioners, towels, and air dryers. It's designed to make washing pets easier and more convenient for owners, eliminating the mess at home.
- Pet Food and Nutrition Guidance: While not a formal service, staff members are typically available to help customers navigate the extensive food aisles and provide basic information on different pet food brands, dietary needs, and options for specific health concerns.
- Access to Pet Accessories and Habitats: For various types of pets, they stock a range of accessories, including aquariums, terrariums, cages, and related setup components.
- Live Animal Sales (Specific Departments): Depending on the store layout and availability, they may offer a selection of live animals, such as small animals (hamsters, guinea pigs), birds, and sometimes fish, along with the necessary starter kits and supplies for their care.
Pet Supermarket on Collins Road offers several features and highlights that are particularly beneficial for local pet owners.
- Convenient Self-Service Pet Washing: A major highlight is their self-service pet washing station. This highly praised feature provides a clean, equipped space for owners to wash their pets without the mess and back strain of home bathing. It includes multiple stations, all necessary shampoos, conditioners, towels, and dryers, making it a very practical solution for dog owners, as one customer specifically noted: "It was great not having to bend over to get them washed."
- Pre-Pay Wash Card Bargain: For frequent users of the washing station, the availability of a "pre-pay 5 wash punch card" offers a significant "great bargain," making regular pet grooming more affordable and convenient for local families.
- Friendly and Attentive Staff: Customers consistently praise the staff for being "very friendly and greeted me and my fur-babes right away." They are noted for being helpful, ensuring supplies like towels are refilled, and checking that all amenities are full before use at the wash stations. This level of attentiveness contributes positively to the overall customer experience.
- Wide Range of Products: As a "supermarket," the store offers an expansive selection of products for nearly all types of pets, from various food brands to toys, treats, and specialized equipment, catering to diverse pet needs under one roof.
However, it is important for prospective customers to be aware of certain concerns that have been raised, particularly regarding the handling of unwell animals and management's policies:
- Concerns Regarding Animal Welfare Policy: A significant highlight, albeit a negative one, is a customer's detailed account of an incident involving a critically ill baby Savannah monitor. This review raises serious questions about the store's protocol for managing sick animals, particularly the alleged lack of a relationship with an exotic vet and a policy that reportedly prevented an experienced individual from providing life-saving care. This indicates a potential area where the store's "policy and control" may, at times, override "compassion" or immediate animal welfare in critical situations.
- Managerial Decision-Making: The customer feedback points to a disconnect between the kind and concerned frontline staff and the ultimate decision-making power of management, which prioritized store policy over an immediate intervention for a dying animal. This aspect highlights a potential limitation in their approach to animal care, especially concerning vulnerable or exotic species that require specialized attention.

---For locals in Florida, particularly those in the bustling city of Jacksonville, Pet Supermarket on Collins Road presents itself as a suitable and convenient option for many of their everyday pet care needs. The store's strengths lie in its accessibility, its wide range of standard pet supplies, and most notably, its highly practical self-service pet washing station. For Jacksonville residents with active dogs who frequently need a bath, the self-service station offers an invaluable solution – it's fully equipped, saves on the mess at home, and the option of a pre-pay punch card makes it an economical choice for regular use. The friendly and helpful nature of the frontline staff, as consistently praised by customers, further enhances the in-store experience, making visits pleasant and efficient. Their willingness to assist and ensure all supplies are readily available at the wash stations adds a touch of thoughtful service that many local pet parents appreciate.
However, it is also crucial for local users to be fully informed about the store's operational ethos, especially concerning animal welfare policies. While excellent for general supplies and the convenient wash service, the serious concerns raised by a customer regarding the handling of a critically ill reptile highlight a potential area of discrepancy between frontline staff's compassion and corporate policy. For those considering purchasing live animals, especially exotic ones, or if they prioritize a pet store with demonstrable partnerships with veterinary professionals for urgent animal care, this is a factor to weigh carefully.
Despite this particular concern, for the vast majority of day-to-day pet needs – from grabbing cat food to toys, or taking advantage of the efficient dog wash – Pet Supermarket on Collins Road remains a highly practical and accessible resource for the Jacksonville community. Its convenience and the pleasant experience offered by its helpful staff for routine purchases and services make it a valuable part of the local pet landscape, particularly for Floridians seeking straightforward solutions for their beloved companions.

Pet Supermarket Reviews
I went to this place for the self service pet washing station. The staff were very friendly and greeted me and my fur-babes right away. After learning they have a pre-pay 5 wash punch card that is a really great bargain, I purchased the card. They provide all the cleaning supplies, shampoos, conditioners, towels, air dryer, even an apron so you don’t get all wet. There are 3 stations for washing small or bigger pets. The staff refilled the towels while I was there and checked that all the other supplies were full before we started. My babies came out smelling great. The only recommendation I have is that the dryers need warm air; my babies were cold from being washed, so blowing cold air on them to dry wasn’t an option. Otherwise this a great service and I highly recommend this location if you need to wash your fur-babies. It was great not having to bend over to get them washed. 😊
Jan 28, 2025 · Victoria DukeIf I could give this store less than one star, I would.Today I went in to purchase supplies for my reptiles and asked about a cage labeled "quarantine." I was told there was a baby Savannah monitor that had been taken home for 13 days, not given proper care, food, or the correct water setup, and then returned to the store in barely alive condition. After working in wildlife and exotic rehab for over 12 years and as an exotic animal vet tech, I wanted to help. The baby monitor was in truly terrible condition and I explained my experience and willingness to take it home and try to save it. I even offered to purchase the monitor at a discounted price and waive any health guarantee. The staff were kind, helpful, and clearly concerned — but they couldn’t make the decision themselves. When they contacted the assistant manager, the answer was no: they would not allow the animal to leave the store. This store has no relationship with an exotic vet and no plan in place to treat an animal in critical condition. Without proper intervention, advanced care, and a significant amount of work (which I was more than willing to provide), this baby will probably die a slow, painful, and PREVENTABLE death. Again, the staff in-store were kind and clearly wanted to do more. But management made the choice to prioritize policy and profit. That baby had a shot at a long and healthy life, and it was denied. This store profits off the love people have for their animals. But when it came time to act with compassion, the people in charge made it clear: policy and control mattered more than doing what was right.
