Pet Supermarket Introduce
For pet owners across Kentucky, finding a one-stop shop that can cater to all the needs of our beloved animal companions, from daily nutrition to essential supplies, is incredibly convenient. Pet Supermarket in Lexington, KY, aims to be just that—a comprehensive retail destination designed to provide a wide array of products and services for various types of pets. As a prominent name in the pet retail landscape, it serves as a readily accessible option for many Kentuckians looking to keep their furry, feathered, or scaled friends happy and healthy.
The store's commitment to customer convenience is evident, with services like home delivery proving to be a lifeline for busy individuals, as shared by one small business owner who relies on it for their "5 dogs." This focus on streamlining the pet care routine can be a significant advantage for locals navigating demanding schedules. However, like any large retail operation, Pet Supermarket faces the challenge of maintaining consistent animal welfare standards across all departments, an aspect that has drawn critical feedback from some community members, particularly concerning the care of live animals. This article will provide an overview of what Pet Supermarket offers, along with important considerations for local pet owners in Kentucky.
Pet Supermarket is conveniently located at 150 W Lowry Ln Ste 180, Lexington, KY 40503, USA. This address places it in a highly accessible area of Lexington, making it a practical destination for a wide range of pet owners across the city and surrounding regions of Kentucky. West Lowry Lane is typically part of a commercial hub, meaning it benefits from good road infrastructure and is usually easy to reach from various parts of Lexington.
The store's placement within a suite suggests it's part of a larger retail complex or shopping center, which often provides ample parking. This is a significant convenience for customers, especially when transporting pets or large bags of food and supplies. For those driving, the location is generally straightforward to navigate, avoiding the complexities of downtown traffic. Its central location in Lexington ensures that pet owners can easily access a broad selection of pet products, making Pet Supermarket a go-to spot for routine shopping and essential pet needs in the Kentucky area.
Pet Supermarket aims to be a comprehensive resource for pet owners, providing a broad range of products and some key services. While the primary focus is on retail, certain conveniences are designed to enhance the customer experience. Based on general Pet Supermarket offerings and customer feedback, you can expect the following services:
- Extensive Pet Food & Treat Selection: A vast inventory of dry food, wet food, and treats for dogs, cats, fish, birds, small pets, and reptiles, including various brands and specialized diets.
- Pet Supplies for All Animals: A wide array of accessories including collars, leashes, beds, toys, crates, habitats, heating & lighting for reptiles, and grooming tools.
- Flea & Tick Prevention: A selection of products designed to protect pets from fleas and ticks.
- Health & Wellness Products: Various supplements, dental health products, and other wellness items to support overall pet health.
- Home Delivery Service: As highlighted by a customer review, Pet Supermarket offers home delivery, which can be a significant time-saver for busy pet owners managing multiple animals. (Note: This service may have specific order minimums or delivery zones, as is common with such services).
- In-Store Pet Adoptions: Many Pet Supermarket locations partner with local rescues to host adoption events and may feature adoptable cats in a "cat tower," providing opportunities for locals to find a new furry family member.
- Self-Serve Dog Wash: Some locations offer self-serve dog wash stations, allowing pet owners to conveniently bathe their dogs in a dedicated facility.
- Grooming Services: Certain locations may provide professional grooming services for dogs and cats.
- Live Animals (Vary by location/species): While they sell supplies for various animals, the availability of live animals (e.g., birds, fish, small pets, reptiles) can vary and has been a point of concern for some customers regarding their welfare.
- Loyalty Programs and Discounts: Offering rewards programs, auto-ship savings, and various promotions on pet products.
Pet Supermarket in Lexington, KY, offers several features and highlights that aim to make it a go-to destination for local pet owners. While general retail features are prominent, customer experiences also reveal areas for consideration:
- Convenient Home Delivery: A significant highlight, especially for busy pet owners. The ability for the manager to "set me up with home delivery for my 5 dogs" demonstrates a valuable service that saves time and effort, making it ideal for large pet households or those with demanding schedules.
- Wide Product Variety: The store stocks a comprehensive range of pet food, treats, and supplies for nearly every type of common household pet, ensuring a broad selection for diverse needs. This makes it a convenient one-stop shop.
- Accessible Location: Situated on a main road in Lexington, the store's accessibility and likely ample parking make it easy for locals to visit frequently.
- Customer Service Interaction: While the home delivery is praised for its convenience, one customer noted missing the in-store staff interaction, suggesting that the personal touch of the team is a valued aspect when they do visit. This indicates a potentially friendly and helpful in-store staff experience when available.
- Potential for Live Animal Sales: The store does house live animals, including birds, fish, and small pets, providing an opportunity for customers to purchase new companions and their initial supplies in one visit.
Important Considerations (Based on Customer Review):
- Animal Welfare Concerns (Birds): A critical highlight from a specific review points to concerning conditions for live birds, including mixed-sex housing during breeding season, apparent lack of proper nutrition (e.g., fresh chop, calcium, vitamins), and "egg-bound females." This suggests potential welfare issues that, if accurate, are a serious concern for responsible pet owners.
- Policy on Veterinary Care for Sick Animals: The review indicates that the store may prioritize cost over veterinary care for sick animals, especially if the cost of treatment exceeds the animal's retail value. This policy, if true, raises ethical questions about the care of live inventory.
- Need for Improved Standards: The direct appeal for Pet Supermarket to "DO BETTER" and "take better care of the animals they have housed" underscores a call for higher welfare standards, particularly concerning housing, nutrition, and timely veterinary attention for live animals.
These points create a balanced view, showing the retail conveniences offered while also highlighting a critical area where the store's practices may not align with the expectations of all responsible pet owners regarding animal welfare.

The availability of services like home delivery is a significant advantage, particularly for busy individuals or those with multiple pets, simplifying the routine of managing pet care and saving valuable time. Pet Supermarket Reviews
As a small business owner I am always short on time. The manager set me up with home delivery for my 5 dogs. It has helped me in so many ways. I do miss the staff though. I go in when I can!
Mar 25, 2025 · Gerald PattersonEgg bound birds due to Improper bird housing*I visited this location and noticed immediately male and female Birds house together, specifically budgies.it's breeding season so you would think they would be held separately in this case they are not .Based on the food i saw available for the birds ,the birds likely do not get proper nutrition . They require fresh chop, calcium ,vitamins , ect.for them to easily lay eggs. The proof to support my assumption would be by three eggbound females .I could not capture a picture of the other two unfortunately.I can say that I notified the staff and while I believe the lady I spoke with will do whatever is within her power as a cashier or staff person ,I do not believe that this policy will change as a result of these three birds likely dying.the lady did say they would look into getting them a vet appointment however it would cost them far more than the birds themselves are worth. Pet super market is a business, I do not believe they will pay for vet and take the loss of money.I make this post not to attack this staff person but speaking to Pet Supermarket as a whole and to put them on notice.Hopefully they take better care of the animals they have housed.by simply separating the males and females these three beautiful ladybirds lives could be saved.when a bird becomes egg bound without Veterinary Care it means certain death. many were puffed up at the bottom of the cage which indicates illness or pain this is just very disheartening and unacceptable. We each have a responsibility to speak against this cruelty.Pet super market DO BETTER
Dec 14, 2024 · Jenna MercuryThe fish tanks, snakes, frogs, and chameleons are not being properly cared for. The reptiles have no water, there’s dead fish in the tanks that are covered in algae, not even being wiped off. Plenty of stuff to buy but stores like this definitely support byb
May 01, 2025 · brooke FailCouldn’t walk through the store. Literally 3 isles were blocked due to all of the boxes and shipment items they had pulled onto the store floor. Staff wasn’t actively putting a shipment out it had just been left for someone to trip over. Terribly managed aquariums. All the tanks had dead fish floating. One of the teenagers there (real dark hair kinda short) is always rude and unhelpful and once told my child not to go near the animals cages when she thought I couldn’t hear her. She found out real quick that I did hear and that I didn’t see a sign saying children weren’t allowed to look at pets for sale. My 9 year old has better class than to act like that. Won’t be shopping or recommending this store to anyone
Apr 03, 2025 · J MichaelThe manager guy is a great dude but he has a staff that is clueless and actually are kind of rude when something happens as simple as wanting to return an item. They are clueless kids that hate being there. Get the older guy with a beard and glasses. He actually showed up to do what he can for you. The girl with all the face piercings is just going to sigh because you asked her something
