My family and I had such a fantastic experience here! Even more than we expected after having a horrible experience at Petco. It was like night and day. The Painted Reptile really knows how to appropriately educate their customers, and I’m so grateful they did and with the approach in which they did it. They clearly know that I know nothing about reptiles, so they very kindly explained which reptiles would be a good fit for our home and which would require a lot more maintenance. Without that knowledge, I would have brought home a new pet that I would have been overwhelmed with and even worse, put that new pet under unnecessary stress. So because of their due diligence, we were able to confidently choose the best reptile for our family. We left well informed with everything we needed to know to properly care for our leopard gecko, Dottie. We also know that The Painted Reptile is only a phone call away if we ever have any questions. They aren’t the closest reptile store to me, but I will travel the extra distance to support this business because they go the extra mile for their customers and their reptiles. - Tiffany Santos

They offer a wide array of healthy captive-bred animals, including various species of geckos (such as leopard geckos, crested geckos), bearded dragons, snakes (like ball pythons, corn snakes), lizards, amphibians (such as White's tree frogs), and invertebrates (including scorpions, mantises). They strive to offer everything from beginner-friendly reptiles to "high-end reptile morphs" and can even assist with an "Animal Want List" for hard-to-find species.

  • Comprehensive Supplies & Caging:

The store is well-stocked with all essential reptile supplies, including a wide range of caging and enclosures, heating elements, lighting and accessories (including UV lighting), substrates, bowls, waterfalls, backgrounds, branches, wood decor, and shipping supplies. They also carry books for further education.

  • Feeder Animals and Insects:

A crucial part of reptile care, The Painted Reptile provides a consistent supply of live and possibly frozen feeder insects and animals. They go the "extra mile" to source specific, "hard to find locally" feeders, as evidenced by a customer's experience where the owner ensured specific feeders were available for pickup.

  • Expert Customer Education and Consultation:

This is a major highlight. The staff excels at "appropriately educating their customers," providing vital knowledge on which reptiles are a good fit for different homes and maintenance levels. They are always "only a phone call away if we ever have any questions," demonstrating their ongoing support.

Beyond sales and advice, they offer practical services such as nail trims for lizards and tortoises, sex determination for various species (including probing for snakes and monitors by trained staff), mite washes for infested reptiles, fecal sample examination (for internal parasites), eye cap removal for snakes, cage cleaning services, and cage maintenance/repair for custom enclosures. They also assist with new product setup to ensure proper functionality.

  • Educational Animal Exhibits:

The store features "educational reptiles housed directly on-site to create a learning environment for guests and customers alike," encouraging visitors to "meet a snake, pet a gecko or observe many of our other educational reptiles."

  • Reptile Rescue Efforts:

They pride themselves on their "reptile rescue numbers and our continued efforts to find reptiles new homes when they are no longer able to stay with their owners," showcasing their commitment to animal welfare.

The Painted Reptile distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that make it a premier destination for reptile enthusiasts in California.

Customers note that they are "well priced" and claim to have "lowest prices GUARANTEED!" This affordability, combined with their extensive knowledge and service, offers exceptional value for reptile enthusiasts.
